We've heard of you too, Stu and Annie from Cornwall, now living on Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, via Ireland and Arizona. Love what you guys are doing, more power to ya!
Hey, I'm English and proud of it. I have black hair and a big nose. I could be Norman or Roman. Who cares; for all the years the census' go back, I have some Irish in me but apart from that I am English. I don't have a racist bone in my body but I would like us to be proud of our past. We have a lot to be proud of and it makes us feel good when we are reminded of it. Now that the politics is addressed: I love Show of Hands music. I love folk music and It's great to have our own music.
I'm an Irish republican, and love Show of Hands. And think that music can unify opposing sides, even if only in song. I have heard English squaddies doing great versions of Irish folk and rebel ballads. Even Unionists have great tunes. Don't worry about the political ranters. They usually can't sing or play.
i agree with glen279, the BNP have only recently decided to have a policy about England as a response to the increase in English nationalism which is not racist. ie: the English Democrats.
I love Show Of Hands.. I see myself as a good mix ,b orn in England my Mother English, my Dad Scottish , his Mum (my Gran) Irish. I can jig and sing along with the best of them all. It has always upset me that the Englsih seem a bit in the dark about their folk roots, they make fun of real ale and Cider drinkers, "hate" the Germans whilst drinking pilsner lager,. laugh at the folk singers and rap in some alien language all whilst flying the England flag...saying they are patriotic?
Is this the same BNP that would refuse ex-Ghurka's membership because of the colour of their skin? Or the same BNP that would do the same to Cpl. Behary, VC, for the same reason?
Steve Knightley. I don't say he is a communist but I've heard he's quite left. So, I think his mind is wide opened to accept all the people in the country of UK and to ignore all this crap of the invalid nationalism. Borders aren't on the land. They are in our heads. IMHO.
