It's taken months and months but Episode 20 of SHOW & TELL, is finally here and it's an epic, widescreen production on a man who is better known as a famous film director but who started out as a precocious, teenage magazine photographer - STANLEY KUBRICK.
Get ready to be amazed by the fascinating story of Kubrick's rapid rise and marvel as Stephen makes connections and comparisons with other photographers of the time who are either a.) Brilliant and groundbreaking in their insight and audacity or b.) Total and utter nonsense or a huge stretch at best.
Finally, prepare yourself for a jaw-dropping yet 100% true tale of Stephen's own (near) encounter with the great man himself. WARNING: THIS EPISODE CONTAINS QUITE A LOT OF SWEARING! IF YOU ARE EASILY OFFENDED.......TOUGH!
Please subscribe to the channel and Stephen will continue doing these films as he seeks to focus on photography content and not just which new or old camera to buy. And remember, there's still a 'No BOKEH TALK' promise. No bokeh talk. Ever.
For more of Stephen's photography please visit his website: www.stephenleslie.co.uk/ (where there is now a dedicated shop for his latest book, MOSTKLY FALSE REPORTS. or his Instagram: / step_hen_le. . He's also on Threads but he hasn't really got the time to do all that crap too, he just signed up to annoy Elon Musk.
Also feel free to contact Stephen if you'd like to buy zines, prints or sign up for his monthly street photography workshops in London.

Thanks. I do have some more planned but they take a lot of my spare time to research & make and, at the moment , I don’t have any spare time.

Quite magnificent. From the knitwear, to the well-curated bookshelf, to the excellent author photography on the walls and shelves to the camera. Composed in thirds maybe. Brilliant. A maverick later rather than sooner. Like Kubrick himself. Excellent work Mr L, excellent work.

Well worth waiting for episode 20 Stephen. Changing the subject to Mostly False Reports: I appreciate the idea of the story line for each image. I limited myself to one photo/ story per day. Great idea great book.

I thoroughly enjoyed this video and the skilful and complex way you compare Kubrick's photography with other photographers of the same era and the connections you make linking his early way of looking with the images we know so well from his movies.

Thanks for making it so entertaining! Just spitting out sentences which may or may not be factual on screen is boring. You made it so much fun to watch such a big subject

Great episode Stephen. This is the most informative breakdown of Kubrick’s photography I have seen. Thanks for taking the time to put it together.

Great documentary Stephen , it would be an injustice to call this merely a 'video' . Love Kubrick's films and photos . I have the large oversize Kubrick archives from Taschen , it's a beast , but thoroughly enjoyable and informative . Back in 2014 , I went to the brilliant 'Stanley Kubrick - An Exhibition' at TIFF Lightbox here in Toronto . Cheers, Dom.

What a “photo-feast” to watch your video today! I really enjoyed its long form.? Thanks!!! ❤ Speaking of Stanley as a photographer - I believe he adapted some of his photo camera lenses to movie cameras and he shot some scenes / films with photo lenses. Not sure if you mentioned that in the video…
@stephenlesliephoto
@stephenlesliephoto 5 месяцев назад
No but only because that's yet another worm hole and there are quite a few videos in existence already about Kubrick's love of lenses. he used a NASA lens for the low light / candle lit shots in Barry Lyndon - I know that much!
