Hi there, just subbed your channel. Culture Fan sent me your way. Interesting video. I like Tangerine Dream, including their funkier late-70s era, which I find pretty cool. I am certainly glad that a large portion of the German Psychedelic and experimental music of the 70s has not become some ultra-rare vinyl corner, where every record goes for 100 Euro. Thankfully there are a lot of good reissues. Waiting for me. Have a great 2021. Greetings from Franconia in Germany.

Hi Ales, thank you for watching and for the subscription. And thank you to Culture Fan for sending you this way. Have you heard the more recent TD? Definitely a return to form. If you want originals of the German experimental scene of the 70s then they do go for hundreds of euros, but thankfully we do have some good quality reissues (with the exception of Achim Reichel). All the very best, Peter. PS just had a look at your channel - looks very interesting. Especially want to check out your rating of the Yes albums.

Hi Pete. I really appreciated seeing your Tang Dream. One of the nicest collections that I ever saw. Fellow longtime VC member Andy King also has an amazing collection. Those CD box sets are beautiful. You are a true fan if I ever saw one. Thank you for sharing them all~ Rob/Boston

Fascinating showcase, Peter. I learned a lot from this one. The only Tangerine Dream that I have is that live Encore one. It's different but I actually enjoyed it.

Thanks for watching Emma. Glad you enjoy Encore - as you say a bit different from British blues, (but your taste in music is much wider than just that). If you enjoyed Encore then you should enjoy most of the mid 70s to mid 80s stuff.

Hey Pete, Wonderful showcase here! This is a wonderful collection and clear how much you love them too. 'Zeit' is still my personal favorite. Both spacey and organic somehow. I eventually grew to like 'Cyclone' after some time of not being nuts about it. Would love to hear the original tapes of 'Green Desert' from that time. 'Tangram' is another personal favorite here. To me it's one of their most romantic albums. Very nice 'Exit' poster. Nice too that you got to experience them live. I really like 'Livemiles' too. It was also my own intro to the band in 1991. Lovely copies of 'Quantum Gate' and those 'Sessions'. I recommend 'Quinoa', 'Mota Atma', and 'Machu Picchu' among other later ones that seem to hark back to the early days. For my own taste they still did a lot of interesting and compelling albums, though yes...even if quite of few of them don't have quite the signature sound. Was not familiar with Wolfgang Duren. Am certainly interested now! Very cool box sets. Don't have any Tangerine Trees yet, though have heard a few. Wow, didn't know about the second book you showed! I thought that might be Radio Massacre International throughout, and I was right, ha. Great stuff I agree, and neat you were involved. Wonderful 'Hades'. I want to get the next one eventually though in no rush, ha. Thanks much for traveling through with the thread and showing your Dreams. :-) Was really enjoyable. All the best. -Carm

Hi Carm, thank you ever so much for your kind words. I wasn't too pleased with the way the video came out in fact. I was too concerned with the length and rushed it. It was that period when they joined Private Music in the late 80s / early 90s that I was not so keen on. My taste in music of this kind generally veers towards the more experimental - the weirder the better :-). However over the years seeing the number of releases by them I was quite sure there must be a lot of music there that I would like - it was just a bit daunting to search out given that number of albums. I'll definitely have to check out the 3 you mention though. The Duren is a really good album, think you'd like it - though looking on discogs you may have to source it from Europe or Japan - it goes for between 40 and 400 dollars! The 2nd book is by Mark Jenkins who has been producing electronic music since the 80s. I have one album of his on vinyl Analog Archives which is worth investigating. He has since done a similar book on Klaus Schulze, and there is one just due on Kraftwerk. Thank you again - take the very best of care - Peter

Forgot to mention! I'm impressed that you recognised RMI in the background. Excellent band who should be more well known. The concert we promoted I consider to be the best of the half-dozen I've seen over the years. We also filmed it for a DVD release.

My Tangerine Dream ‘voyage’ started with the same album as you, Phaedra, and ended round about the same period as yours. I bought Phaedra the year it came out, along with PF’s Ummagumma, from a small record shop in Llandudno, north Wales when I was on holiday there with my parents. I’d no idea what to expect from either of them so all I could do during that holiday was to keep taking both out of the bag and look at the artwork and track listings.

Hi Robert, seems we took the same journey to an extent. I can't remember if I'd heard anything of Phaedra before I bought it - I don't think so, but if I had it'll have been on the Alan Freeman show (where I got a lot of my musical education). Ummagumma, though it doesn't get great reviews, I've always loved. Pink Floyd were never better than during the 1968-72 period - especially live.

@@soundsfromthewestcoast9939 Ummagumma is up there in my top Floyd albums too. I even bought a very cheap copy of the Gigi LP from a charity shop so I could prop it up against the wall in my record/CD room, similar to the one shown on the cover 😄

Peter, wow, this was fantastic. I'm really glad you decided to jump in on this thread! What a collection you have. Those box sets at the end were very nice to see. I've never heard about Tangerine Trees or leaves for that matter. Were they available via trade sites or downloads? I'm going to have to look into those. And I've logged both books down and will look into them. There's so much that you showed that I still need to explore. Including that Wolfgang Düren release. That one went right on the want list. It's so cool that you were able to see them live. Seeing Edgar perform must've been amazing. This was really great and I enjoyed every minute of it! Take care! -Bill

Thank you Bill - it was seeing your addition to the thread that was my inspiration! I got my Trees CDs from torrent sites many years back. I would imagine they are still available but if you have any problems finding them then let me know and I would be more than happy to copy what I have for you. The Duren is excellent - but rare - it goes for between 40 and 400 dollars on discogs. Seeing them live was an experience - just wish I could have seen them more often. Take care, Peter

Hi Pete, really nice to see your back and making videos again. And what great video this was. I discovered TG as a young teenager around 1983/84. My friend had bought a copy of Force Majeure and played it for me...and it was really a magical experience. I still believe its my favourite with them, even though I like many albums from their classical era. Just like you I lost my interest when they became less experimentell....and rediscovered them with Quantum Gate (or actually the album before that; ”Particles” that have the same line-up as Quantum Gate). I bought the album Macchu Picchu on vinyl one or two years ago (believe it was a RSD release) and is a tribute album to John Peel. And its quite decent. I also remember that I was surprised (in a good way) when I heard ”Tyranny Of Beauty” for the first time. Released in 1995 and probably only available on CD. Well, once again, a great video. And take care. /Pelle

Hi Pelle, thanks for watching and your kind words. It's surprising how often the first album that you hear by a band remains as your favourite - point in case Phaedra for me. Yes, I was sure that they must have been doing some decent stuff after that late 80s / early 90s period, but there were so many releases that it was too daunting to investigate all of them. That's why I was really pleased to stumble upon the recent material and fins I liked it. Carm has recommended Macchu Picchu too - I need to give that one a try. I did hear The Islands of the Fay the other night from their Sonic Poems series and thought that was pretty good - harkened back to the early 80s period. Thanks again - take care - Peter

Hi, I am really impressed with your beautiful Tangerine Dream LP collection. I also think that after 1987 the music of TD was not so interesting and "experimental" anymore. But the album Underwater Sunlight from 1986, which you unfortunately didn't mention, I think is very good. Why is only "LIVEMILES" and not Underwater Sunlight interesting for you? I mean many things sound very similar in my opinion. Otherwise as I said, an interesting video of you.
@soundsfromthewestcoast9939
@soundsfromthewestcoast9939 3 года назад
Hi Theodor, thanks for watching and your comments. I totally agree about Underwater Sunlight, but unfortunately I do not own it on vinyl which is why I didn't show it. Have it on CD though. If you haven't already check out the recent post-Froese material - a return to form I think.

@@soundsfromthewestcoast9939 Thank you first of all for your quick answer. I didn't know that your presentation of TD's albums was all about vinyl. Now I know it. The music and the releases after the death of E. Froese, I must admit, I don't know. But I have heard a lot of positive things about it in the meantime. As I can also see with you. Therefore I will soon take the time to listen to it.

I got mine from Amazon but they don't seem to have them any more. Try emailing ZyXyZ Books the publishers. The email address is on their website. They should be able to tell you where you can buy them from Or try Mark Jenkins Facebook page - maybe he has copies for sale. Or what about eBay?
