Ola, Andy! It was above my price limit estimate but went rogue as I had consigned a box of records there that sold for much more than I was expecting. There are a few duffers in the lot as well as bargain box stock and £10 albums. The Jeff Beck and Peter Hammill albums are the big hitters but enough in there to, hopefully, turn a modest profit. Just need to sell them all now!
Hi Richard, we were watching the auction this week at home and sat through over 640 auction lots, it was a very long day lol. Imagine our surprise when we watched your video and it was you bidding for that lot. We are not an expert like you Richard but we think you got some great records there at a great price. Hope you do really well with them Richard and thanks for sharing as we loved seeing what you picked up. Take care and have a great weekend. Love Paul & Marie xx 🥰
Hi Paul & Marie, thanks for watching. I wondered if you were interested in any of the lots at this auction - I always attend the sale in person and thought there were some lots that sold for amounts that could realistically produce good profits on resale, particularly ceramics. As for being an 'expert', not too sure about that as I bid over my set limit for that vinyl records lot but it should still produce a modest profit - just need to sell them now!
Thanks, Jack. Buying records at auctions should carry a 'wealth warning - can get caught up in 'auction fever' and overbid. I take a punt though when bidding on large job lots having inspected prior to the auction as its not feasible to price comp every item first.
I'm happy enough with this lot, Mike. The Jeff Beck and Peter Hammill albums are the big hitters but enough in there to, hopefully, turn a profit. Just need to sell them all now! There were several other lots of vinyl at The Pump House that seemed to me to sell for high amounts based on condition.
Thanks, Dale. I was a little dubious about making much of a return on this lot when making the video but have now researched further and there are some good price comps, in particular the Jeff Beck and Peter Hammill albums. Just need to sell them all now!
Hi Richard. Do you find yourself trying records out again and again when you pick them up more than once? I certainly do. Otherwise I shift them on again. Sometimes I keep them but alot of general albums I know will turn up again I am willing to pass on. If prices are going up then fairs bargains I still find particularly first thing (difficult I know if you are setting up yourself). I've not done a fair this year yet more due to time factors and working. The break is doing me good. Ok keep enjoying the music 🎵
Hi Martin, in truth I am moving on albums picked up as quickly as possible - I don't overprice my stock to, hopefully, help the sell through rate. Fairs bargains are difficult to find - my best have been when a new seller comes along that does not fully appreciate the market.
Yes, UK (and EU) record sleeves are made of thin printed card with folding flaps inside that are glued to the card on three sides. I understand that US record sleeves - at least those up to the 80's - were made of heavy non acid free board and the loose front and back boards were joined by pasting heavy printed paper over the top, bottom and spine. When there is splitting of a seam there is nothing to stick together!
Thanks for watching, Richard. This video was filmed over 2 months ago and by way of an update I have now sold the majority of these records. The Queen, Depeche Mode and Beatles records have been the quickest/best sellers. Overall this lot will make a modest profit on cost.
Thanks for watching. The titles were the main attraction for me in this lot, particularly The Beatles and Depeche Mode records that sell quickly. The U.K. OG albums by Jeff Beck, Peter Hammill and Bluesbreakers are also desirable. I had inspected the records prior to the auction day and discounted those not deemed saleable based on my criteria of quality. The appetite by record dealers is strong and the interest shown in the lots of records was reflected in the competitive bidding. Each of the lots - there were several others that I did not reference - sold for, in my judgement, a high trade price but still leaving scope for a margin for retail sales. Would not expect NM for preloved records largely from late 60's/70's and I undergrade vinyl to exceed buyers expectations - a grading of VG+ might be attributed by others as EX. All that said - need to start selling them!
