Hey everyone! Sorry for the delay in content. I swear I'm a turtle when it comes to making content on a consistent basis... 🐢 I had a few obstacles to overcome when making this video. First, I needed a new space to record my content moving forward and I had to make a deal with my boss at work to use an office to record my videos. Second, I had some hardware issues that took me a week to figure out what was wrong and 2 more weeks to find a replacement part. I'm also thinking of buying a Dell G5 Gaming PC to compare it to OptiFlex to show just how much better OptiFlex is. I think it would be a fun video to see just how bad the G5 is. What do you all think? Let me know! Hope you all enjoy some more OptiFlex content :D

Hey Wilshire tutorials i bought an dell Optiplex 3040 for a cheap price however am slowly going to upgrade it as time passes as i don't want to a lot of money right away. I saw your upgrading dell Optiplex 3040 series which is why I bought the thing in the first place. I just wanted to know what cpu (intel i3 or i5) would work and what type of graphics card would be compatible and is it possible to replace the deafault power supply it has to one of those corsair ones Have a wonderful day

@@cliserioolivares8170 somehow missed your comment here! Sorry about that! The 3049 can use an Intel i3 6100/6300, i5 6500 or an i7 6700. Make sure to buy the non-K variants of the CPUs the motherboard doesn't work properly with them. I found a good place to start is an RX 470 Nitro from Sapphire. You can use it on the default PSU as long as you use a 2x sata power to 8-pin PCI-E adapter. If you want something more powerful, you'll need to mod your case and put an SFX PSU inside it

Great videos! I have a question about the PSU: Does the Dell mobo in this machine use their 6-pin proprietary power connector rather than a normal 24-pin ATX connector? If so, what adaptor did you use? I have a dell G5 desktop and looking to upgrade to PSU in the coming months.
@WiltshireTutorials
@WiltshireTutorials 3 года назад
Yes it is a proprietary power connector. Some of the boards vary. It can be either a 6 or 8 pin power connector instead of the standard 24 pin cable. I have never played around with a G5, but I imagine they are quite similar in design. The cable I used did not specify that it worked for a G5. So, I'm a little hesitant to recommend it to you.

Killer upgrade! Really liked the opening bit, great montage too! Too bad the OptiFlex logo is gone from the gpu and no more black mobo, maybe you have something else planned? Excellent performance too! Not too surprising with such great specs, but a very nice thing for sure. Wish I could get my hands on the new Nvidia gpus, wanted the 3080, but that ain't happening anytime soon haha. Also, hope that a good mini Ampere card arrives one day so I could put it in my sff system too. Speaking of which, I'm still waiting for parts on the RTX 2060+R5 3600X sff system, actually managed to nab a water block for it, gonna be doing some wild stuff, so I hope to show my franken-custom loop once its done. What other adventures await in the next installment of OptiFlex?
@WiltshireTutorials
@WiltshireTutorials 3 года назад
Glad you like the upgrades and the intro montage! That took a lot of time to get that shot right! Spent almost 3 hours doing take after take of that shot lol. I do miss the OptiFlex logo on the GPU as well. I was trying to think of a way to implement it again the 3060 Ti. I think it can still be done. It'll require a bit of effort though. I'm definitely looking into it. I'm also thinking of painting the 7070 MT board black, just like the 3040 board. Little hesitant due to all the motherboard issues I had with this video. The performance somewhat surprised me. I was expecting the PC to potentially thermal throttle with both the i9 and 3060 Ti running at full tilt. But, I was pleasantly surprised that they didn't and it ran cooler than the previous version of OptiFlex! Oh, man! I had such a rough time getting ahold of even that 3060Ti. The only way I was able to secure one was a local PC store employee recognized me and put one aside for me to buy (the aren't taking reservations for them right now). So, I got SUPER lucky. I'm looking at either a 6900XT or RTX 3090 for my main editing rig. Hopefully I can find one for it soon. I would love to see the Franken-Loop when it's all setup! Are you going to make that PC SFF as well or are you going to go a little bigger? I'm not sure what awaits for OptiFlex at this point in time. But, I always seem to come up with something new and exciting for this little guy!
@DarKNesS7026
@DarKNesS7026 3 года назад
@@WiltshireTutorials Yeah, I could tell you kicked it up a notch with editing, good stuff! I get your hesitation with painting the mobo, don't do it if you feel like it's not worth the risk, the system still looks great. Definitely got lucky with your gpu! I have an option of buying the 3070 right now, but I'm still eyeing the 3080, so I'll wait. Oh I'm definitely keeping the form factor. I swapped from 4L to about a 5L case, but it's still very cramped. You'll see what I mean by "franken-loop" once I'm done. I'm sure you still have a few tricks up your sleeve regarding the OptiFlex, keep it up!
@WiltshireTutorials
@WiltshireTutorials 3 года назад
@@DarKNesS7026 I always try to top the previous video. Sometimes that doesn't happen lol. I'll probably end up painting the board. If things go sideways, I'll just buy another board. I'd wait and grab the 3080, if I were you. The 3070 doesn't seem worth it to me. Well, the 1 extra litre will definitely help when trying to stuff all of your components inside I have a few ideas! Nice concept but I do not see the cost benefit in building the newer, after 7020/9020 Optiplex when everything went almost 100% proprietary. There were alot more work arounds in the older Optiplex models even to the point of case swaps with easily available cable adaptors.

@WiltshireTutorials
@WiltshireTutorials 3 года назад
Those are some decent looking specs. It's got tons of potential! First thing's first, upgrade to Windows 10. It's faster and more optimized than 8.1! As for the CPU, the Dell motherboards do not support K variant CPUs only non-K variants! Please do not waste your money on the 4790K! Buy the i7-4790 or i5-4590 instead! Both will work great for gaming. Next would be the GPU. It is very old and tired. I recommend trying to find a used RX 580 8GB. That would definitely make your gaming experiences at 1080P much better! Also, you could migrate/clone your Windows installation over to a SATA SSD. Running Windows off of a HDD is painfully slow. Lastly, I would try to find a nice cheap 450W PSU that you can throw in there for the RX 580. Hope that helps! If you have any more questions, don't hesitate to ask! Thanks for watching!

You could also go with the SF600 to save some money. As for the GPU, it depends on what quality settings and resolution you want to use. If you're going for a budget 1080p Mediu/High Settings build, an RX 6600 would work well! You could also save a little bit of money and buy a GPU used. They do not! They draw too much wattage. The i9-9900 (non-k) only draws 65W. With the K variant, it draws 95W and the board is not designed to provide that much power. The PC will just shut off, if it draws too much power.

A very good modded dell optiplex, but misleading because he was getting good compliments he forgot to tell the viewers he spent over $2000 & used 3040,3050,7070 plus two GPU & cpus he was getting poor fps so started using unusual presets low to mid custom so changed to 7070 mt with i9 & rtx 3060ti sfx 7050W that cost over $1200 mobo , good video for content but not practical and dangerous using so many tools plus the wrong 24pin to 8 or 24pin to 6pin atx adapter can blow your motherboard and parts.
@WiltshireTutorials
@WiltshireTutorials Год назад
This is not misleading or dangerous at all? I was getting great FPS with the original 3040 motherboard and the RX 470 8GB. Obviously, you have to keep your expectations in check for an older OptiFlex and GPU. Therefore, I used a mix of Low and Medium Presets. I prefer to use more 'real world' presets in my benchmarks than fully maxed out because most people don't do that and I prefer to game at a higher FPS. Very far misleading, if you ask me. The only part that I used from a 3050 was the front panel and only because it was black, as I was going for an all blacked out build. It was also $6 on eBay, as it was being parted out from a broken OptiFlex.... The 7070 motherboard and upgrades were an experiment to see what was possible with the proprietary Dell motherboard and chassis. Also, I just wanted to see how far I could push things. You can't case swap these Optiplexs to a new case due to the unique motherboard size and layout. Hence, the used 7070 board I bought on eBay for cheap and me modding the 3040 chasiss. The i9-9900 (also used) was also an experiment. There was no documentation in Dell's official technical specifications sheet that stated you could use an i9 in the 7070. So, I decided to try it, as I'm sure I'm not the first to ask that question if it worked or not. The chipset allows up to a 65W chip and the non-K version of the i9-9900 is 65W. It works great in the computer and is still going to this day. As for the RTX 3060 Ti, I got super lucky and got that for MSRP BEFORE all the GPU mining and shortages happened. Saved quite a bit of money that way. I wanted to show that it was possible to fit an RTX 3060 Ti into a Dell Optiplex, if people wanted to add one to their machines. I don't want them to get stuck with a low-profile 1650 (or spend the stupid asking price for a used one!) when you can get a way better GPU into the tower. Lastly, the SFX PSU, you can use whatever SFX PSU you want and whatever wattage you want that fits your needs. I was going all out, so I chose the best one I could get. I'm not sure why you're mentioning the adapter for the PSU? Obviously, crossing wires in the wrong pinout will cause damage? I made the adapter myself for the 7070 as I had some spare parts sitting around. But, these adapters can be easily bought from MoDIY, who know what they're doing. Here's a breakdown on how much I spent because you're really far off: I9-9900 (used) - $200 7070 motherboard (used) - $100 SF600 (used) - $100 3060 Ti (new) - $499 =$899 (that's Canadian, by the way) Kijiji is your best friend for used parts. I hope this breakdown explained everything you wanted to know about my decision making. (Why did I write such detailed breakdown? I have COVID and have nothing better to do lol)

Oh. A new Prebuilt Dell upgrade. More RAM = More Headroom. 32 GB of RAM isn't enough nowadays, even for Gaming. 64 GB of RAM to 256 GB of RAM is enough, at 4.5 GHz. The optimum amount of RAM is 512 GB, at 5.0 GHz, even if the Mobo can't support an overflowing amount of RAM.

I just don't want other viewers to be misinformed, that's all. It's possible, but not on consumer hardware. Usually the max for consumers is around 256GB with a Threadripper. It's more of the server market with an Epyc CPU that push RAM amount that high.
