I was also born in 97. I remember as a kid plugging in the AV cables for the PS1, PS2, Gamecube, Wii. I was mind blown when one day I found out that the video signal is carried only by one cable. @DioBrando-qr6ye

RGB and component use three cables to just carry the video signal (S-Video too), and those are the better quality connections. Component is rare today because it was reserved to high end TVs. Most average TVs have RGB and/or S-Video (RGB in Europe and S-Video in the US). P.S. Since component uses 3 cables just for the video, a component cable has 5 RCA plugs (red, green and blue + stereo L and R).

I love the telephone microphone. It adds a level of nostalgia that I never thought I'd experience again or kinda didn't know I miss it. It reminds me of long holidays away from home and then you get to call friends on a payphone to check in and tell them all about your awesome seaside holiday. It also reminds me of long phone calls to my school friends. Talking crap for hours on end over weekends. I went on a long bus trip a year or two back only to find myself in the big city with a dead cellphone and no power bank. It only dawned on me then that payphones don't exist anymore.

Your channel is really a trip to the late 80's to early 90's. Something that I was excited about during college was the old tech stashed away in my professor's telecomms lab room. From analog oscilloscopes to nixie tube watches. But the coolest thing was the CRT monitor that he disassembled and exposed each part of the circuit and its function. In my opinion, looking at old analog circuits from a crt is like staring at a mechanical swiss watch (but that watch is really an electron accelerator, lol). Of course, digital tech from nowadays made in silicon or galium arsenide are really complex and the manufacturing process is nearly witchcraft. But still, the challenge of designing analog circuitry for very/ultra high frequencies is something that amazes me. All the impedance matching networks and signal control systems are something to stare at hours and wonder how the engineers figured all out. TL;DR: I like old technologies. Great content! Cheers 🍻

The reason for the clear tvs, I had heard, is to keep inmates from hiding contraband in them. I think it would be simultaneously hard for a guard to look at a TV and figure out what part might be missing, as well as too easy to know if something serious enough was missing, by way of it not working properly. Some prisons let inmates have their own TVs in their cells, along with walkmans with headsets, that's what cleartech is used for.

This is crazy, I am old enough to see items from my childhood seeing a resurgance. I saw a HS aged group of kids wearing grunge and one of the had on a Nirvana shirt. It's so cool to see the youth exploring vintage culture and tech.

You moving the aerial around unlocked a core memory of me as a child having to constantly manipulate our TV aerial throughout most of my youth, and when you find the “sweet spot”, having to sit there, not moving your arm throughout the whole show, lest you lose the picture.

My favorite TV as a kid was my 1977 Sony Trinitron. Despite it being 12 years older than me, it had a better picture than any of my newer TVs. I used to watch Letterman all the time on it.

I still watch TV on my 100 pound Sony Trinitron CRT. It is nearly as old as my granddaughter. She took pictures of it and I ask her why. She said her friends can't believe that still use a CRT TV.

I love old tech like this, it doesn't even need to be good, love the old clunky stuff, really shows us how far we've gone. i don't really have much old tech, just a 4th generation monochrome ipod and (isn't all that old but definitely outdated) a ps3 super slim, and I just like to sort of relive a bit of the older days. I kinda wanna get one of those big clunky early 90s mobile phones; not to use it, but just because it's kinda odd and cool

Dude. I used to have an old little 12" (or maybe smaller) tv with a VHS in it, and me and my friends would sit and play split screen multiplayer on it. God playing games on that with half of a little screen to look at lol. Greatest times of my life. lol

For the little RCA, sometimes if the audio works but the video doesn't, it just means that the video heads are dirty. Try cleaning the heads with a video head cleaner from a reputable source and it just might spring back to life...

Enjoyed the video. It is fascinating to me seeing the love for these old CRT devices. I am 55. I am old enough to whole arc of these going from state of the art to e-waste. I occasionally volunteer at e-waste collection events. One Saturday I think we must have had at least 50 CRT TVs come through. All sizes and shapes. It won't be long until there are not many left. The phone mic is amazing. I felt like a teenager again. Those were the kinds of phones we had in the 70s and 80s and your mic absolutely reproduces the experience. I felt like I was back in the 80s talking to a friend for hours. Nothing sounds like that anymore.

There's something very relaxing about this low-fi quality. First time here. Just bought a bunch of dvds from a "goodwill" - I'm a bluray/4K guy mainly, but when the dvds are 1€ piece, I just decided to buy lower quality to get some movies I haven't yet seen. the DVD quality is ok, it really is fine against the higher price point of the HD stuff.

Most of my TVs growing up only had the RF coaxial input. The ones with composite av cables were always so expensive. Although, I did see some older TVs that didn’t even have RF jacks. They only had the antenna dipole input which would pick up a lot of interference leaving you always fiddling with the antenna. These TVs were from the 1960s or before.

This feels like a post apocalyptic history lesson on old technology lol cool video though thanks for all the info. I always wondered how they did it back when they had multiple TVs in stores playing something at the same time and I guess they were just input and outputs wires doing that, that's crazy.

It's cute seeing people nostalgic for devices where I go, "whew! Glad we're not limited to that anymore!" - makes me feel a little old but it's so fascinating to see. Maybe like how I was too young for the NES' heyday, but still became obsessed as a teenager, after it was old news..

I am older early 40's and know nothing, but one thing I found is there are maybe a few people you meet in your life that reoccurs , different people but they take the same place in your life, provide that role what ever it be. Then you have people like you that you stubble upon and they inspire you to be the best version of yourself. There is always light , always good, it shines in you and others .
