I truly enjoyed seeing the cimetiere where all of the previous owners of the Chateau de La Lande are buried. How wonderful that you continue to honour them. They would be thrilled to see what is happening with the chapel restoration.
I think it was (unconventionally) appropriate to take us along to the cemetery, since people all over the world are helping to care for Lalande , each in our own small way. Maybe not how the family would have wanted, but in a way no one could have ever predicted ❤ thanks Stephanie, for including us in this respectful cemetery visit ❤
Your visit to the family cemetery was so moving. We need to remember the family that kept Lalande alive until you were lucky enough to find it. And even more lucky to be able to truly fulfil your promise to restore the chapel. That the wake was held there so recently ... what a fine connection between the former residents and the wonderful new owners who care for Lalande into the future.
I almost cried when you talked about sending the botanical papers to a charity shop. Those are so hard to come by in Texas. When you try to order on-line the costs are so exorbitant. Love your videos and your family Stephanie.
I agree. I have 12 botanicals that came out of a large calendar that I framed and currently hang in my house. I bought the calendar specifically for that purpose.
I actually did cry😢. They are so beautiful and would have looked so gorgeous up along a staircase . I’m sure they would have place for those postering in beautiful golden frames . It must be so strange for Phillip to see pictures of Stephanie’s grown up birthdays before he was even born . I just realized I’m one year younger than her and he is the same age as my son I law 😅
I have just been taken back to many many years ago. We lived on Westholme Close, Woodbridge (1977). My father was stationed at RAF Woodbridge. Seeing the photo of Beacon House reminded me of the many walks around the town collecting antiques, getting a sweetie, picking apples from someone's abandoned side yard, and meandering around the River Deben. Thank you.
She is! I also love how she doesn't just go for the most expensive gift but she watches and listens to what the people around her love but won't get themselves or need. She just seems like the most thoughtfully kind person!
Even your Mother's daily diary is part of your family history. They should never go. There has to be a space to keep photos, dairies, family history. You are a part of this chateau now and your history is important as part of its story.
What beautiful memories. I wouldn't part with anything that was written by your parents, especially a diary! That house was beautiful, I bet your parents really did a job on it. Would love to see the finished photos when you find them. Enjoyed the history of the previous owners family.
I live in an 1890 house in the city. I researched it and found that 3 people died here and their funerals were held here. Old houses have history, nothing compared to the chateaux of France of course, but still the places where lives are well lived! ❤
I prefer an old house with a long history over a brand new home myself. It makes it far more interesting..... Plus, older homes were built much stronger. 😊
its so uncanny that I have stopped throwing stuff out; when we immigrated I gave away the entire Cordon Blue Cookery series in magazine form and deeply regret it
@@thewilliamseswonderfulworld we love to go through France. The scenery. The ever changing landscape. But, when we see a chapel, we sometimes stop. Then an hour or two later, we move on with those memories ❤️👍❤️
🐝🐝🐝 busy bee clearing and sorting....then a drink at the pub .🍷in that pretty village...plus the walk was just what was needed. Never tire of your stories Miss Stephanie ....that natural ability to translate life and history directly to the heart. 🐦 xx
I love the picture of your grandmother! She looks like she would have been full of love, laughter, and wonderful warm hugs! I miss my grandmothers so much.
My grandmother's parents came from Roscommon County in Ireland and she had lovely auburn hair and green eyes. She always sent tons of Christmas presents to my brother & I if she couldn't be with us.
My dear Stephanie thank you for sharing the cemetery with us and the history of the family who owned , loved, and lived in the château. A beautiful place of peace and rest. I lost my 97 year old mum last week of Feb. I live on the west coast and she and my brother live on the Atlantic side of Florida. She was remarkable like your mum, was able to live in her own home, taking care of all her needs herself, my brother in a community not far away. The end was peaceful and she was at my brothers when she took her final breath. You spoke so respectfully of that wonderful family. I’m so glad you were able to continue knowing them and how they would be so pleased with how you’ve been taking care of this lovely chateau. I’ve had a bit of a cry watching you here this evening. What a busy day you had. Well done on cleaning, sorting tossing… loved the table as usual and Marie did a wonderful job in dinner. Love to all.❤❤❤
Hugs! So sorry for the loss of your mum. It doesn’t matter how old they are. Our Mommies are still our mommies no matter how old we are. Love never dies! 🙏🏻🥰
Oh my...Delia Smith's Christmas cookbook is THE best!! For years I've made her sticky toffee pudding (which might be the only thing my ex-husband misses of me) and the sausage rolls, which are so yummy and can keep in the freezer- take out only those you need or want to serve. Absolutely wonderful!!!
Vivienne and Simon are some of my favorite people. I adore the hummingbird earrings she gifted Nati. So thoughtful. Hummingbirds are my favorite bird. Love the history you’re digging up in the attic and the memories you shared. The Nadillac family would be so thrilled at the restoration you’re doing at LaLande. Another incredible table setting and dinner as well!! Love from Mary in Southern California 💗
I would have made copies and sold, as I’m sure the book is so old that there are no copyright on it anymore . The originals I would have framed in golden frames and hung up along one of the stair cases. I’m so sad she donated them 😢
I know when your sorting out things ,their are things you come across you know all about them but when we have gone they mean nothing to someone else .Quite sad isn’t it .keep the sorting out Stephanie lv Ann uk 🇬🇧🇬🇧❤️❤️
Proud of you Stephanie for learning to let go of “stuff” from the past. Somethings are irreplaceable and should remain in your care. Dinner with the guests looked amazing as always. Thanks Stephanie. 🇨🇦🙏❤️
Very emotional going through the diary. I m amazed how like your aunt your dad s mom looked. What a beautiful woman . The diary is precious Stephanie.🤗 so lovely to hear about the Nadaillac family. Thank you Stephanie. What a gorgeous table💜
Stephanie..you never cease to amaze me with your knowledge, hunger for history and enthusiasm..your the best to turn Chateau La Lande for the next"1000 years".keep soaking in and passing it along..thank you for another fun video..and you went off in the dress you cleaned in..and looked glamorous..super star!
Marie needs to publish a cookbook. Stephanie you looked gorgeous at dinner loved your dress, I would love to find that dress in Florida. I could never clean the attic unless I hire some junk men to carry everything out to a dumpster and then get the dry/wet vac to clean out cobwebs and every nook with debris, lol. ❤
I think the livable part of the attic should be called The Room of Requirement. Since it just collects things and nobody knows where it comes from or how it got there.
Our family plots go back to the late 1700’s. A few years when dad passed three of us all laid down in our future spots. lol 17 spots already taken.🙏🏻 Marie you are just a brilliant chef.
In Andelain, a commune in the Aisne department and Hauts-de-France region of northern France lays the 12th century Church of Saint-Denis. While the church only holds service once a month, I visit when there as I am a direct relation to everyone buried at the cemetery. The feeling I get being at the church is hard to described.
I don’t think so, in my hometown in Italy there’s a big family tomb on a hill overlooking the city. It’s called the dog’s tomb that’s because under Napoleon’s rule they changed the laws and made it illegal for people to be buried outside cemeteries so since the family already built it, they decided to bury their dog there. Stephanie said “the 19th century boy” so these laws might have already been in place then.
What a beautiful table tonight one of My favorites!! How special of Vivian to show such wonderful appreciation for the Lovely Nati!! She is a Treasure!
You all are doing a fabulous job with all the clearing. I love all the things you've rediscovered and shared with us. It seems every nook and cranny of that chateau is filled with treasures and wonderful memories. The yellow floral prints were really pretty. I'm surprised you didn't keep them to use later. They were a lovely collection that was very complimentary to the blue in the kitchen and even to the pretty wallpaper in the dining room. The trip to the cemetery was beautiful and I appreciate you showing us the chateau family plot as well. I wondered if they had one nearby. I hope you discover more about the family and history of Lalande. I know how important it is to you to honor that history. You could always ask Henry. It doesn't hurt to ask. I'm sure he would do his best to help you. Sending you all love and hugs. 😘💕
It is very cathartic to tidy up and it always feels better when done. So many wonderful memories, and it is always a tribute when you visit those gone before and honor them still. Another beautiful dinner service. Nati, your hummingbird earings are beautiful. Vivienne is awesome.
Another interesting vlog! Thanks Stephanie. Your visit to the cemetery was very moving. I have been in Crozon both times when I stayed at LaLande but never noticed the café. Has it always been open? How lovely that you have a local spot to support ❤
Save clothes and hats for the costume closet. The cemetery tour was interesting. Phillip’s table setting was so pretty, as usual, Marie’s dinner food was beautifully prepared, as a 5 star restaurant, as usual. Seeing your Mother’s notes during your younger years and hearing you speak about those years sent a tear to my eyes as you had such dear parents and such a pleasant childhood. I’m happy for you. So few people have that.
The botanical pictures would be great in a double sided glass frame, giving you the option to turn them round to show the picture on the other side as and when. So good to clear clutter. A clutter free room is a clutter free mind! Good luck!
It is so exciting to see your clearing rooms again, with your big projects coming into fruition it seems to chateau is almost done but then you show these rooms and its so cool. Looking forward to watch more many years of DIY and decor/demolition!
Hi I enjoyed listening to you reminiscing as about your old home and heard Gerry saying one of the rooms was his. I would love to know the history about his friendship with your family also others like Micheal Potts. D xx
Dear Stephanie.....I just love all your wonderful videos....your natural beauty and joy in life is so refreshing. Thank you for taking your fans to the cemetery and discovering so much more history of La Lande. It is so extremely difficult to eliminate special items that have been set aside for a time. The diaries and personal things are keepsakes of your past and that of your parents. The dinner was absolutely beautiful and shared with friends. La Lane is filled with the joy of life! I look forward to each of your next videos. (a friend in the U.S.)
The last of my clearing and condencing down has arrived with several shoe boxes full of old family photo's and letters written by my two late sisters, aunties and uncles and cousins who are sadly no longer with us. I am having a hard time just doing 10 - 15 minutes every so often as it's so emotional so I will plough on a bit at a time. You encouraged me to go through all my material and fabric, china and glassware, knitting wool etc. Clothes were never ending for me so I will persevere, maybe slowly. Thank you Stephanie fir your encouragement over the years watching your vlogs. 💕🇦🇺
I can see why your dad fell in love with your mom she was beautiful then and is beautiful now. What lovely memories and you look a lot like your mom and dad Stephanie. Thank you for taking us with to the family tomb of La Lande I understand more of the family who owned the chateau and do you think the young boy could be buried in the chapel? I wonder. Have a lovely day.
Such a nostalgic and moving vlog today Stephanie - thank you so much for sharing special memories with us your fans - it helps me, for one, to go to those silent places within and feel again the beauty and love that once was 🥰 Morbid? No , I think not - cemeteries are also places of history 😁
I meant to say before that it is a good idea to have a slecial memory box or scrap ook for say all the wallpaper finds. Also making digital copies, easy to keep for future reference. The same of course for family memorabilia.
This was the hardest Chateau Diaries to watch for me personally today.Normally the happy vibe of the videos keep me cheery. But today, my cousin lost his 2 year old son to a tragic accident. And hearing you talk of the family not living long, just broke me today. A reminder, to embrace and cherish your loved ones. You never know, when our time comes.
Bonjour Stephanie, I really agree with Phillip, you need to frame the picture of you mummy and dad at your 16th birthday. keep that close in your bedroom or share it with everyone at Lalande. It was so nice to see you and Nick go down memory lane in the attic, the treasures of years past and the never-ending friendship that you have. Thanks for sharing that. Much love from N.Y.
Stephanie, I think you should consider that diary from your first year at the Château as part of the château history. Maybe place it in the library once you get that established. I think it’s a good keep.
ik werd ook heel emotioneel toen e de foto van jouw grootmoeder uithaalde herinneringen zijn zo fijn maar ook zo pijnlijk als je de personen mist die je lief waren
Thank you so much for taking us with you to the cemetery, I found that really interesting. Besides being not ready to let things go, you are a very important part of the history (not yet 🤪) of Lalande and people in the future will want to know about your history/ancestry etc. Maybe a part of your chateau could be some sort of museum room? Thank you so much for sharing all these interesting things with us! 🫶💞🫶
Your storage rooms are very interesting with items you in some cases have forgotten about. It's like opening a Christmas gift for the first time every. I'm enjoying this tour of your life. Love those Hummingbird earrings Natie.
Marie your flowers and meals are just exquisite, they are so much a part of the show and they’re like Art. I so appreciate all the hard work you’ve gone to learning to cook and the course you took. The flowers, oh my goodness they’re wonderful. 🌷🌸❤️🇨🇦
It is important to keep all of that precious family history. It’s a treasure to have those special ephemerals bringing the past close. Lovely vlog as always ❤
I never throw out diaries. To me they are as important as pictures. It's proof someone lived, they puttered around, made progress, failed, suffered, felt joy. If I found a diary from my mother, I could never throw it out. She's no longer with us, and every once in a while, I find something she had written... a hurried recipe while watching a cooking segment or a shopping list. I wish she had kept a journal or a diary. It would be my greatest treasure.
