Shredders just feels so good to play. The learning curve is a bit high but once you get it and play it at a high level of control, you really can make the game look very realistic. It’s very satisfying. They’ve nailed a lot about that snowboard feel from winding up and snapping to how the way a deep carve progressively builds… it’s a beautiful game for snowboarders.
After watching the full video and reading the comments, I have decided that Steep probably is made for everyone, while Shredders is more for people who actually freestyle snowboarding or who are just good at video games. I honestly prefer Steep though, because I am a skier, and only Steep can offer that profession.
i fully agree. shredders does give a more realistic feel whit less movement and such in the air. but steep offers skis to and i kinda enjoy that you can do cool tricks which isnt possible sometimes irl
the collision of objects are alot better handled on Shredders than on Steep. I feel like steep is adrenaline junkie vibe game, just go fast, live on the edge, a lil bit arcady, but thats what makes it fun for everyone! While Shredders is just the plain simple realistic snowboarding game, which is super dope for those who want to experience snowboarding as a simulation. I see Shredders as the "Beam NG" of snowboard games, and Steep as "Forza" of snowboard games. All amazing games!
The main difference for me is if you want the rush of bombing down a mountain, Steep is your game. If you want to be in control of your tricks and ride mostly park terrain, Shredders is your game.
@@ninjafruitchilled More of the latter. There are mountains you can ride in, but you'll definitely eat shit. Probably why you get access to the mountain pretty late into the game. It's a steep one. No pun intended.
@@Lethargy514 I just started Shredders this week since the PS5 version released, seems great! And bombing down the mountain is great too. The only big downside vs STEEP that I see is that STEEP has way more huge and spectacular terrain, which for me is actually a big downside to Shredders despite its far superior mechanics. I hope they add a bunch of actual big mountains to Shredders in the future.
Never grinded a snow sports game more than shredder’s. Played all the SSX games, steep, and riders republic. Just discovered shredders this year and damn is it addicting… the feeling of perfecting your favorite trick and pushing to get better and stomp the perfect run, it’s the most similar to actual snowboarding. I love it.
Ya shredders let’s you spawn wherever with the drone! Just found that out today, it’s so sick!! The learning curve is tough af tho. Starting off every now and then I get those sick lines
Watching this whole video, these two games reminded me of the stark differences between SSX and Amped. Amped was more realistic and when it came to controlling tricks you have complete control yet you have to be careful to not land wrong. Plus the game looks a lot slower. SSX on the other hand is a lot faster, arcady, and a strict control of the tricks you pull of in exchange for more flexible movement on the board.
I wish we would still get proper over the top extreme sports games with triple A production values. Riders Republic went a bit that way, but doesn't exactly manage to scratch the itch.
@@kano589 you’re smoking something if you think so. But they’re really 2 completely different games, one is for people that have no clue what snow sports are actually like and the other is for people who actually snowboard to try and replicate real life tricks. It’s ok if you can’t comprehend that.
@@Larry_Fishermannn lol. I mean if all you care about is realism it might be more fun. Both games are awesome but to discredit peoples opinions because "they have no clue what snow sports are like" you just look and sound like an idiot.
100% just about personal preference. Shredders is an entirely different playing mechanism where you control every aspect of the tricks and board, and is fun to get on and just mess around. But if you like the arcade style and the SSX trick mechanisms, Steep is for you. Steep also has a ton more to do, but shredders is brand new and the Devs are adding stuff (not to mention people have already released really cool mods for it). I highly recommend trying both if you can, both are fun in their own ways.
been playing steep for a few years now and picked up shredders about a month ago and I already am having a way more fun time learning the controls of shredders than steep, steep honestly made it very “easy” too maneuver backflips and just tricks overall where in shredders it’s very more simulated based which makes it so much more fun too learn, steep is like riders republic and shredders combined with a lot of missing elements here and there but it’s just arcade based the simulation in steep is not at all like shredders making shredders overall more fun in the end
Steep is arcade, Shredders is simulation. They aren't comparable. Steep has to juggle eight different sports, Shredders has one. Sacrifices had to be made to make a fun experience in Steep. I enjoy Steep more for its versatility and its easy to pick up controls. It's just a good game to turn my brain off at and just ride into the Sunset.
So, how would you classify recent snowboarding games? I was thinking something like this: SSX (2012) = 10/90 (simulator/arcade) Steep (2016) = 70/30 (simulator/arcade) Riders Republic (2021) = 70/30 (simulator/arcade) Shredders (2022) = 90/10 (simulator/arcade) Thoughts? Do you agree? disagree? How would YOU classify them? - Is there any other modern 'full arcade' snowboard game? I couldn't find anything!
It's Skate vs. Tony Hawk's Pro Skater. Kinda an apples to oranges comparison since one is a physics-based simulator and the other is unrealistic arcade. It's pretty simple, if you want a game that makes you feel like you're controlling an actual snowboarder, it's Shredders 100%.
As a snowboarder, I prefer steep. Although it’s less realistic then shredders I enjoy the arcade-y open world type of game. It’s chill and I love to listen to Spotify while playing
soooo much more steez in Shredders... i remember playing Amped on Xbox, this is an upgrade of that ! a HUGE one! so good game! Steep and that other game is so stressful.
Shredders got the grind sound perfect as well as snow sound and the movements. Would be awesome if they somehow managed to make the mountains more alive with other snowboarders, people chilling, restaurants to have a coffee at, more deep powder riding on alternate slopes, etc.
if you've ever snowboarded, you'll pick shredders, its insanely realistic, even how the player stands, you'll notice he weights his backfoot when you enter power, if you do a half assed 180 in shredders it looks EXACTLY like a new rider trying a 180 in real life like as someone who loves snowboarding and has done seasons all over the world, I'm shocked how well shredders had nailed the physics of snowboarding. Incredible game its the new skate.
These are two complete different games which are very hard to compare to each other. Steep is an arcade game which is complete unrealistic but makes a lot of fun and is easy to control. Shredders is a great snowboard-game which goes more in a realistic direction. Shredders is more a simulation which is easy to learn but takes time to master. What is not mentioned in the video is that you have the ability to mod your gear. I think that's not possible in Steep. I like shredders a lot more but only because I like more realistic games, both are fun.
Tbh steep was an semi simulation that pissed on riders Republic because it was the most we got but man shredders made steep looks pure arcade with unrealistic physics
I feel modern snowboard games have no atmosphere, where as my all time favourite Amped 3, the mountains were alive with people cheering or booing if you did tricks, throwing snowballs and just all round felt alive! I hated being so alone in steep, it was just so dull and lifeless
Shredders wins for me, it shows things that could happen in real life. To me the easy tricks in Steep makes them lose value and look like a kids game. Kind of like value of soccer goal - only one or maybe two or three in a game, versus basketball point - over 200 in a game - which one will make you jump of your seat?😀 And the rotations of your character in Steep just don't make sense. I assume I'd get bored quickly if I mastered some real life world class tricks quickly.
as someone whos played both shredders and steep, steep is far better. It has tons more to explore, and even feels a lot smoother when playing on xbox sereis x. Steep also is faster with its flip rotations, and shredders is almost unrealistly slow.
Actually I’m not saying shredders is better or anything but you can flip and turn fast but it’s more about timing than buttons so if you want realistic it’s shredders but if I had to choose a better game steep 100%
I play both games and although the map in Shredders is bigger, there’s way more (better) features and lines than Steep. I ski in steep) so it’s hard to compare gameplay.
Isn’t the point of video games is to escape from realistic expectations….. me personally if I’m going to do anything realistic with snowboarding, then I’d go snowboarding….. the game play for shredders looks so slow and boring, steep looks crazy and fast paced…… if I want realism with snowboarding, then I’d just go snowboarding….. same principle with sport games, like madden, I think that’s a boring ass game, I pick blitz over madden every time…. Just wish they would make a new blitz game
@@carnage8754 TH 1 out sold Skate 1, Skate 3 out sold TH 5. Some people like CSGO and Battlefield v Fortnite. Just because you have ADHD, doesn't mean we all do.
I haven't played Shredders, but seems like a really nice continuation of Amped 2, in my opinion the best snowboarding game ever. The 3d is pure crap. I love Steep because I am 45, 30 years snowboarding, 21 as a snowboarding teacher, an ex park rat, and now a hardcore freerider. Steep is amazing if you like the mountain and freeride (especially if you come from a freestyle background, which is the best you could do IMO: a good freestyle base provides many more resources for the mountain, which is the essence), but aside from the fact that right now the game seems completely abandoned, sadly, one thing that always annoyed me AF was the lack of sprays. Anyone who rides deep pow knows that feeling. Well, in this game at first, there was KIND OF spray physics, but ugly, poor, and lazy. After the first update, that got even worse. It disappeared almost completely. Oh, and I don't know why they nerfed some beautiful tweaks, like the indy nosebone. Now that trick is way worse, much less intensity. These two things made me really really angry, especially the powder physics issue. Sometimes you don't need quadruple corks, just strap in, and smooth turns with big sprays. I wish they made that aspect more realistic, more emphasis on that. The replays would have been epic. But they never did it and they will never do. The other thing that it's extremely annoying: only regular. Why?? This is lazy AF. It's a basic feature in every boarding game for fks sake! Because it is basic at any boarding sport. I am goofy, and can't ride tapered directional boards in the game because I can't unsee it 😂. God it's so fkg annoying lol. I would be happy with huge spray mechanics here and there, pow bombs and things like that. Powder real butters would be super fun too. Butters in steep are not even really butters. Well, that's my opinion. Thanks for the video.
The very big plus of Shredders is that you can play it fully offline. I played Steep to death for a long time on ps4 and ps5, I also have Riders Republic. I wanted a cool snowboarding game on steam deck and discovered Shredders since it just released on playstation. Steep and RR are awesome, but I generally hate always online games, and especially on the go that is a big detriment. That plus of Shredders aside: I really love the game, have been playing it for a while since yesterday. Btw in Shredders you can also drop anywhere, maybe that was added after your video, IDK. You can fly your drone anywhere and drop the boarder there. It's not quite as fast as the map in steep, but not far behind :) both games are great, but the offline capability kinda makes Shredders the winner imho, also: the story mode is very charming! Nothing like the cringe stuff in RR.
I haven’t tried Steep, but I assume Riders Republic got it’s game style from there, so I can say that Steep is much more like my game style. However, Shredders gave me the same vibes when I first started playing Amped 3.
Nah Riders Republic is more arcady than STEEP. I really love STEEP, but I pretty much hate Riders Republic because it just went too far over the top in the arcade direction. Plus it has too much other junk so the snow areas aren't that big.
Riders republic was supposed to be steep 2 In early drafts but they scratched it because they added other extreme sorts. It was made by the same developers. They with more arcade style because they wanted as many people to enjoy the game as possible. Wasn’t meant to be an only snow sports game.
@@ninjafruitchilledthat other “junk” is part of the extreme sports game lmao. If you don’t like the bike, bmx, an air events then stay on steep😂😂 republic is a good game and if you play it right it can be less Arcady. But it isn’t junk lmao, some might say the snow sports are junk 🤷🏻♂️
Steep reminds me of 1080 Snowboarding on the Nintendo 64, which was in my top 3 games as a kid in middle school in the late 90’s. However, Shredder’s is far more realistic.
Snow and effects: Steep, no doubts Realism and love to work: Shredders If Seep was developed by other people instead of Ubi, now we can talk about a classic game. But online DRM... well, fckin shit
I like steep more due to the fact that sure its unrealistic but atleast you can enjoy the pressure going down mountains and actually snow board, ski, skydive, wingsuit, and other thing with friends. plus steep has maps and has more abilities that you can do other than shredders. so thats why i like steep more. plus shredders has more floaty gameplay then actual coolness of gravity.
I have about 500hrs on steep and just bought shredders today. And oh my god does it feel smooth. Its very hard to learn but fun. Both games are worth buying tho. If you want realism buy shredders if you want to explore huge maps and do crazy tricks go steep
I feel like steep is more Tony hawk pro skater while shredders is like the skate version. Both a good in their own way but if you skate or snowboard you know which one you’re picking.
I prefer shredders just because of the realism unfortunately its buggy and has a very small community so it is probably not gonna go anywhere. Unlike steep with a huge community.
think its all about what your into. If you're into simulation and realistic gameplay, go with Shredders, but if your into hauling ass down mountains doing wild ass shit go with steep. best way to put it, is comparing Skate 3 to Skater XL... skater xl is super realistic and has a learning curve but once you got it, its the best skateboard game youll ever play, but if youre into arcade type stuff and like doing crazy unrealistic tricks, skate 3 is for you or, its like comparing Need for speed to Forza Horizons.. both good games but once is more sim and other is straight arcade. But I don't know what Steep has to offer for mods. But for shredders you can download hella Maps and custom gear and also a Menu than you can control the gravity and pop height and rotation speed to make the game even more realistic. I dont think theirs no wrong good or bad in these 2 games.. i think its that if youre into simulation and wanna go through a learning curve and challenge your self to land tricks, Shredders is where its at. but if you just wanna come home after work and jump right into a game and do some wild ass shit like SSX on tour. get steep.
