Great video! You're getting really good at capturing the atmosphere like the sunrise etc. I'm sure I'm not the only one eagerly waiting for a brief update on the new boat living situation. Be well!
I have probably watched this video 5 times now over the span of 8 months. It is just so calming like all of your videos. Thanks for bringing me peace when I need it!
"and in this particular case, I was right" ha ha! Great catch! Love all the camera angles - can't imagine what a PITA it is to set them up, walk away and go back, etc etc, but it really does add to the overall feel very nicely.
I think you might actually be my favourite youtuber... And I'm not even that into fishing... I like how you have really nice camera angles and placements. And also how you catch and release some fish.
Love your videos. You had me at... "Practice catch and release when you can." "...conserve these fisheries.." Nice to see I'm not the only one that doesn't keep everything he catches. I live in Upper Michigan at almost the tip of the Peninsula so I'm surrounded by Lake Superior. I am also extremely protective of the nature here. I'm an avid fisherman and was up in the air about getting a Kayak. Now I know I have to get one. What a great way to get close to nature and just be one with it for awhile.
Great video and a good message on catch and release. Nice to see the red kayak being used again. You are building a fleet now with the Big live-on-board. I count 3 vessels so far. Martyr's own Navy.
Awesome idea marty! With the little stove! Am planing a lil camping trip with my kayak and was looking into buying one. Thanks for the amazing video caint wait for the next!
I go down to Florida quite a bit from up North. I enjoy fishing and being in the outdoors, but now I am starting to get into kayaking when I go to Florida. I also love to hammock (hanging a hammock and relaxing). I have hung a hammock on the shoreline before and with the Florida coastal breeze, it is heavenly. When I saw you stop for lunch and looked at all the mangroves it inspired me to take my hammock out with me while I kayak so I can "sit back and relax". I thought you might want to try it because it just connects me with nature so well. The only thing about it would be to find big enough trees/mangroves to hang the hammock from. From where you kayak, there doesn't seem to be very many large trees. Hammocking is awesome and I have even thought about replacing my bed with a nice hammock stand and a hammock because they are so comfortable. You seem like you would enjoy hammocks.
You are on the money, brother. Releasing all or most of these amazing fish ensures plenty for everyone. Now and in the future. Job well done, on the video and your mind set. Next time down to Tampa I'm buying the "cold beverage".
Love all your vids dude, your life looks flippin' awesome, keep up the fantastic work, just watching your vids gives me a peace out on a regular basis.
those little mini gas stoves are neat. when canoeing we use hobo stoves but finding wood fuel is easy where we camp/fish most times. whwn we carry water to boil we just leave it in the bottom of the boat or canoe. seems to boil faster then iced water. neat videos.
loving the mini stove lol bro you found the best mini camp sight ever! i bet no one had ever been in there but you lol should have named the spot. put your name on it bro! great vid! its always nice to have a hot meal out fishing. i usually take mine in my food thermos and stays hot for a really long time and i mean HOT. really good fishing/mini camp site lunch adventure! keep more vids coming!
You literally have the best fishing videos! Man it would be a dream come true to go fishing with you and I live in the Tampa Bay Area as well! Man once I get my car and a kayak we got to hook up!
Great videos, thanks for making these! I'm going to Crystal River next month for vacation, and bringing a 8' inflatable pontoon for some fishing. Can't wait! Just getting back into fishing, and getting on the water. I've learned a good bit from your videos from fishing, to camera techniques. Also going to rent some kayaks on the Weeki Wachee :) Keep up the great work!
Hi Marty. Regarding your cautionary comment about not spilling hot water on your plastic box: don't underestimate the heat being reflected back from the underside of your pot, which is a bigger concern than hot water. One way to mitigate this problem (other than preparing your food away from your kayak) is to make a reflector/insulator from the heavy aluminium foil commonly used in disposable baking trays. This can be placed underneath your gas stove.Such a reflector can be shaped to fit inside your pot and would also double as a base if you should choose to set your stove on the (soft) ground.
Few weeks ago went fishing with some friends in the indian river and we all got hungry.. Luckily we had a table and a mini stove that fit 3 pattys.. we put a table in the middle of the river and set a stove on it with some pattys.. even some people on boats and kayaks came by and had some burgers with us. :)
Now is your lifestyle guaranteed for kayak fishing or are you just the god of kayak fishermen. I've never kayak fished but pulling up to the shore and cooking some noodles w/ shrimp sounds amazing.
Fantastic video, thanks Marty! Thoroughly enjoyed it and you even got my own few remaining grey cells firing. I have a stainless wood-stove which I could take out on my little yak too. Rather than having to hump gas, the banks of my local estuaries are littered with driftwood and dead wood. A little careful applications of a heavy knife and I will be having fried eggs, bacon and sausage some mornings too - as we're not lucky enough to get the instant "pot noodle" with shrimp over here. I can recommend the Koka with Crab or Lobster though mate. Dirt cheap and so gorgeously tasty :) Something like £0.60 here which will be around $0.85 if you have to pay the same in the US. Well worth dirtying the saucepan for ;)
Marty Im from Canada, I love your videos. They're so fun to watch and very down to earth. Are you ever afraid of any big shark on those kayaks. I just started fishing this season with my boys. But all we have here in Toronto are big lakes. Is there any advise you can give a new lad that will soon get into kayaking, thanks and please be safe out there.
Ever try kayaking down the hillsborough river? It's a great experience for kayaking and not to mention there are some monster bass lurking in that river
Good advises on the tail end of your video Marty. Often I see folks keep everything they catch up here in Georgia. I can't understand why, esp. when fresh water fish aren't as edible compared to salt water fish. Guess that's why they have fisheries up here. Folks, just keep what you plan on eating that night. thank you....
Sigh,,,I missed my calling I love love love that area, I was born in Florida. Orange County Hospital on Christmas Day no less. When I was just a wee child they moved us to PA because my father woke up with a HUGEEEE Cock Roach sitting on his chest and he said it was big enough to carry me away as a new born. ..lol But the water calls me, so being in PA I am a Happy Camper in the mountains.
I use the Jetboil. It boils super fast, and is contained inside the cup you use to boil the water in. I don't go fishing, hunting, or backpacking without it. Check it out!
That was super awesome of you to release that one! Great video man! P.S. I fish the same way as you do and the spots you fish look just like the ones I do! Is that the caloosahatchee river in this video?
Idk if u did this in a different video but whats your whole fishing combo like the reel the pole and what line your using thx...i live in south florida just wondering im trying to catch snook and redfish
hey I would like to know how do you keep your live bait alive I use a standard bait bucket but everytime i pull it out I always seem to find dead bait in there usually shrimp mostly shrimp
Very nice, great video. I love my Okuma baitfeeder reels that I picked up and started using after watching an older video of yours. What reels were you using in this vid? Did they also have a baitfeeder option?
Kayak Chris I still have an Okuma baitfeeder which is great for when you have bait out and you're not paying attention to the rod. These Okuma Trio reels are nice when I'm using artificials or when I'm jigging a live bait. They're less bulky then the baitfeeders and lots of fun when paired with those light Matzuo rods.
Another great video. I have a question for ya. I live in SW FL & there are some great opportunities for canal fishing hear, but my only dilemma is I'm a beginner, plus I'm 6' 4" 375 lbs..What's a good kayak for the big and tall who loves to inland fish? I would greatly appreciate your expertise on this.
Hey Marty, great fishing vids ! I'm a new subscriber and fairly new to salt water fishing. I've been on one excursion. We hired guides out of Matagorda Bay , Tx a couple years ago,. Caught oodles of Reds and Black drum on shrimp. We used baitcasters with 30# test, 8 ft heavy caster rods. Sooo, I'm surprised to see some of the very light wt. tackle that you use. Looks fun. Couple questions , what area do you fish and what wt. line do you use on your spin cast rigs ? Thanks much for sharing . You are my link to the coast, which ever one it is ! haha. Keep a bow in your rod !
Another amazing video!!! You inspired me to start this incredible hobby and i just want to say thanks! also since i am somewhat new and live very close i was wondering if you could name your top 5 favorite spots in the tampa/sarasota area. Keep the videos coming!!!!
