What lively young eyes in this not-so-young face! What vivid eyes of his. What a moving story plain-spoken. Having seen some of his films I did not for a second expect this at his back-ground.
I was not prepared for such a profound and candid series on who we call Tony Curtis. I am deeply grateful to this series for providing people the opportunity to have a greater understanding of what it means to be human, especially as an icon in the movie industry. I' aware that this info is fro his perspective only, I found hi to be sincere and really believe in his life stories.....I now have greater insight into a an that I followed for years in movies. For that I a grateful. A very profound session with very good questions and I believe, very honest answers from his point of view. The best Shrink Rap I've seen so far. Thank you:)
First of I all I have to say that this was highly interesting. It's not an interview at all. The doctor did an excellent job here. She drew these deep hidden hurts out of him. I understand the situation with the parents oh so well! It's too bad Tony had these tough and painful situations happening throughout so much of his life. He brought us a lot of great entertainment. He will be remembered for that.
I enjoyed listening to Mr Curtis opening up about some very painful periods in his life. I cannot envisage the emotions and torment he went through during the war, his brothers death, his parents, and his 2nd younger brother. He was probably running away from those events his entire life. I remember the great man in the movies and the TV shows - his alter ego's? Thank you for what you have given us Mr Curtis (Bernie). Greatly remembered. And thank you Pamela for sharing this interview. (you too wilsol70)
This was great and you can tell that Tony gained insight from this talk and good for him. He was smart enough to be GRATEFUL for the insights, even if some of them were painful. That is an example of truly living and examining one's life. (The unexamined life isn't worth living.) There is another Shrink Wrap with Joan Rivers. It is a heartbreaker. Joan hid behind laughs because there was SO MUCH she could not deal with. Joan's interview is sad and touching~~~she really did not have much of a clue about her SELF. Check it out.
I watched this about 10/12 years ago ! I just re watch it ! Wow what a great interview! Tony was a legend ! Pam’s a spunk & a sensational Dr , interviewer and remarkably intuitive..
Wow what a man! And I think she is so wonderful- so intelligent and intuitive! She had so much respect for him and even though he put on his "actor facade" she allowed him and didn't try to embarrass him and call his bluff for good ratings. I have so much respect and love for both of them!
I liked many of Tony's movies, but this was one of his best performances! I remember him on a talk show right after dvds had just come out. He walked on stage with a dvd of one of his movies in his hand and began kissing it-saying this makes me immortal. Tony loved Tony more than anything-in my opinion.
Pamela is SUCH a nice lady - I think she healed me watching that. Thanks Pamela. And Tony Curtis brought 100s of hours of happiness and insight in his movies - "The Midnight Story" and "The Great Impostor" - "The Outsider" are just three of them
How incisive this psychologist's observations are and how clearly she expresses herself! I love her steady eye contact, the concentration as she performs what is pretty delicate surgery verbally. And this is Pamela Stevenson, a name still engraved in my mind from Not the Nine O'Clock News. It happens to few of us that we continue to grow in life and realize our potential. So nice to see.
im not sure how I feel about her, seems just like she's spitting out lines she was taught to say in school (becoming a doctor) but his reactions are sincere and well seeing him open open about experiences was a beautiful thing. amazingly tough life he had and will be remembered as a hollywood legend
Why have I never heard of this woman before today? Between this and the Joan Rivers interview, I'm blown away. Did her show ever air in the states? She is very good at what she does. *****EDIT****** Oh my GOD this is the Pamela Stephenson who appeared on the 1984-85 season of Saturday Night Live??? Wowzers. What a career trajectory!
Tony had the school of life & the shrink had the school of schools. He already had the insight into his own behavior; how could it be otherwise being an actor, exploring one's emotions, or just living for that matter. As for the Jewish issue, that kind of antisemitism flourishes even today, so there's no doubt he was telling the truth. Kirk Douglas rehearsed similar tales in RAGMAN'S SON; there's GENTLEMAN'S AGREEMENT, "restricted" hotels, clubs, etc.
To The amazing America: how do you know that ¨no one called him a dirty jew¨ when he was kid ? Antisemitism was in its beginnings in America during the ´30 and ´40 . That´s is one of the reasons by which he changed his name .....He is not the first one who succumbed because of the use of drugs and alcohol ....
brilliance and the Eg0-in-over-drive, - WITHOUT SUFFICIENT MORALITY, - is a very nasty (tho fascinating) package. ... it's a prescription for pain all around. ... GOD and TRUE MORALITY Is The Center of the Universe and REALife.
wow so obviously personality disordered but wow its not hard to understand how it happened. always thought he was a great actor but a tool have compassion now
I think there are moments in the interview where he can't resist acting out, but not the whole interview. There's some real pain in there.. He was always a bit of a ham and self-promoter, but listening to him describe his early life, who can blame him?
@69Ellsworth This was disgusting. I wish I had not watched it. No one called him a dirty Jew, there were no big bad Germans, why the victim? He had money, pretty women, status, good looks, he over indulged in booze and drugs and women because he liked it. Everyone has pain in their lives. How disgusting, he almost had me fooled as well. He probably wanted to get her in the sack.
TheAmazingamerica Why the victim?Because he was a victim, that's why;in which pink world do you live in?Please read and learn mote from history and take more respect for a WWII veteran who enlisted in the Navy at the age of 16 for you and me and many more could live in a nazis free world;what did you do for your country and for the whole world???
You're so disrespectful and ignorant by mockering him;beyond all the art and movies he left us Mr Bernard Schwartz (aka Tony Curtis)was a WWII veteran, yeah,he served in the Navy for making this world a better place to live in for you and me and many more, and he was only 16 when he got enlisted...16 yo....can you say the same, stupid one?
I cant remember when I last used my yyoutube account. I usually think my comments are not so valid, but...this one is ! Please go back to minute 2:40-4:57. She is calling him BERNIE there. Is this supposed to be a reference to something or did she simply get his name wrong!! He seems so disillusionized ( sorry for my english, I am not a nativ speaker- its not because I am high ;) or stupid that I might make spelling mistakes). 3:27 : I never expected THIS today! 4:24: ...including a 140 movies!( like saying: and you person that I felt so connected to and tought that cared about me doesnt eeven know my name, even if te reason I am here is my work, and my life, that I stand for with my name. I really felt like he was deeply hurt and just wanted to get out of there as soon as possible. I hope he just took the ood insights that he got from the session with him and just can give a fuck about her not knowing his name, when he was invited to her show and is famous in the whole world. So what do you guys think ? I am as I said not a native speaker so maybe I got something wrong and thats why I didnt understand the Bernie instead of Tony thing ... , or maybe I heard it right and other people didn't notice it... I feel it is wrong to comment here without giving my admiration for this man out ,who I would have loved to have had as a friend and from a femal perspectiv also can say that to me personally he was a beautiful person inside ( from what I see here strongly!) and outside, bacaue well he was such a handsome man in his earlier years on the outside. much love to you Bernie ... uuuhm tony of course ;) little joke- all the best whereever what you were or are may be now ....
And?What's the problem? You can say he was a superb actor, fine painter,he created The Emanuel Foundation For Hungarian Culture and he was a WWII veteran,he was only 16 yo when joined the Navy, that way he did contribute to left you and me a free nazis world to live in;Don't you believe his memory deserves much more respect and gratefulness?
