Thanks for the update! I appreciate you showing the dogwood you replanted in addition to all the shrubs you pruned back. I'm in Zone 5b. I picked up a cardinal dogwood from the 50% cart at my local bigboxstore. I put it in a larger pot so I can move it around the yard to figure out where I like it (following your advice from other videos). I'm wondering if I should plant it before September so it has a chance to start establishing itself before winter. I also planted a few dappled willows, but they don't seem to be growing as vigorously as yours. Do they need a year or 2 to establish themselves? I am also trying your hose technique to add curves and interest to my square patio area. Thank you for all the tips!
So interesting, the shrubs grew back so fast. We planted 2 dappled willow and sadly both perished. Planted 5 red twigged dogwood and 3 yellow twigged dogwood. Lost 7 dogwoods due to deer eating them all including dappled Willow to the ground. We protected the last yellow twigged dogwood with heavy netting and stakes and the deers actually broke down the netting and decimated the last yellow twigged dogwood. Deers have broken down all the shrub, garden and tree protectors we put up. The deers actually broke down the stakes both wood and plastic coated metal stakes. So we replaced those broken stakes with metal T bars and the deers actually tore the heavy plastic netting to get at the gardens, shrubs and harvest gold lindens and red maple trees. 😢 thank you for sharing this information, your videos are always so inspiring.
