man i love quake, also there was this portal that teleports you to a floating spikey platform thing that moves around shub, it sometimes moves inside (clips in) shub herself and if you time going into the portal correctly as the spikey platform clips through shub you can telefrag her and basically kill her.

Shub was also a boss in South Park the Fractured But Whole, the only way you could do damage to Shub was to get Enemies into Shub's Area of Effect, and you couldn't damage it with normal attacks either.

well if that’s the case I really gotta finish playing quake, I keep getting distracted by other games

@@gangweedernigga4012 this was the info i was withholding in regards to defeating Shub. The only way to beat her is to wait for the entity to clip/pass through Shub and it is at this time you teleport into her. Back when i 1st got to Shub's domain (and eventually beating all the monsters on the level) it took me ages to figure out how to destroy her. The 1st time i used the portal i teleported into the lava lol. Because i kept dying when i went through the portal i assumed it was not the answer so i tried shooting Shub. I emptied every gun into her and nothing. I even used cheats to give max ammo! When that failed i thought to just telefrag myself and restart the level to see if there was something i missed. So i ran into the portal expecting to die but this time i didnt end up in another part of the map or just drop into the lava, i got the end screen instead(??) It was then i put 2 and 2 together that the entity and portal were linked. I did laugh at seeing Quake man hack Shub to death from the inside. I had all the guns and yet the mighty Shub died from ingesting a maniac with an axe

@@nefvynisnobody9809 I too got stuck on that final level, back in the 90s. I never figured it out for myself, I was told the answer by a friend who was also playing at the same time period. Pretty sure Ranger doesn't hack her to death from the inside though, but rather telefrags her (2 entities occupying the same physical space, the one teleporting in will basically explode the previous one)

He translated this fear into his works with the protagonists often being well to do, upper society gentlemen who are faced with unimaginable horrors that make all of the prestige they had mean nothing and showed them just how small they were when faced with the universe. Combine this with good old fashioned fear of the unknown and vile imagery of the black ocean depths, rot, mildew and mold and you have stories that aren't meant to make you feel terrified and more unsettled. The type of feeling that sticks with you long after you put down the pages. Hoped this helped you gain a little insight into why people love his type of horror.
