Shufai's Story continues and after major surgery, he has bounced back once more and is coping remarkably well! We had to make the difficult decision this year to amputate his arm above his elbow. This was the only long term solution to relieve his chronic pain caused by the severe injuries he received when his mother was killed.
But it was the right decision to make - it has given him a new lease of life! As you can see and hear, he loves play fighting with Yeba....listen to those happy giggles near the end of the video! He climbs trees again which he hasn't done for years, sometimes using his chin to pull himself up and he is back enjoying the rough and tumble of life in a very lively gorilla group.
In his honour, we are fundraising throughout September and you can join in the fun either by doing an event yourself or supporting one of our runners at Loch Ness on 29 September - Rachel Hogan will be there running the marathon! Find out more about Shufai September on our website www.apeactionafrica.org/donate... - we look forward to hearing what you get up to!
If you'd like to help us with a donation, you can do so on our website - all gifts are hugely appreciated, no matter the size, every penny counts in Cameroon! www.apeactionafrica.org/donate... Thank you!
