Hmm, I do the shuffle in the hand you showed here, but it's indeed easy to keep cards on top/bottom by accident. So I also put in some standard European shuffles in between. The combination means you have different cards on top/bottom when doing the riffle shuffles, randomizing cards very quickly. And I never end with riffle shuffles in hand because it's so easy to see some of the card faces when doing it ^__~

Great video as always. I really like your Doomtown series. My favorite sleeves are Hypermats because they glide fluidly.

Ronneal Santos The Hypermats are definitely my second favorite. The feel is very nice on them, that's for sure. I like the slightly larger size of the Dragon Shields. IMO the Hypermats need to be 1-2 mm longer so that there's more of a lip over the card at the opening. Pretty minor complaint, I know. Both brands are excellent.

Shuffling is the one thing in any tcg that you soley control (outside of your opponent cutting the deck) that can make your odds of winning be cut in half

I made this video about Corp deckbuilding a while back: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-02Jvb-q6DwU.html I've been thinking about ways to approach this topic for a while, but it's quite difficult. The main thing is that decks have a lot of considerations based on side and faction. I think it would be pretty hard to do a Runner deckbuilding video just because the information presented would have to be exceedingly general e.g. include credit generation, play breakers, play cards to draw cards, etc. Do you think that it would be better to talk about a particular aspect of the Runner deckbuilding - e.g. economy or breaker suite, - or would something very general be useful?

I think when it comes to running I think describing the functions you need to perform as a runner. Ie running, econ and your form of attack. The other idea talking about ice ratios and talking about ice isnt a stop end all runs talk about that misperception, and the tax that ice create. I'd love to talk more and get involved in this idea.

Would this work with unsleeved cards? I noticed this is for Magic The Gathering cards and the reason I'm here is that I want to shuffle regular playing cards so I don't mind them getting a little damaged/worn and I suck at shuffling and I looked at shufflers but people pointed me to sleeve and mash and that's how I ended up here and this method of shuffling doesn't look that hard I think even I could do it.

No, it does not work unsleeved as you can´t seperate the secondary pile as easily.

KoenigNord Great video! I saw that floating around r/Netrunner a month or so ago. I added it to the video description. The reason that we - the article's author and I - suggest ten shuffles rather than seven is that seven assumes perfect splits and interweaving. I'd say that your average shuffler doesn't cut the deck perfectly in half and doesn't perfectly mix A-B-A-B all the way through. These extra shuffles account for errors in shuffling technique.

@@Willingdone Actually, it's an error to aim for 1-1-1-1 from each pile. The randomness and the number 7 comes from assuming when you riffle, you don't get this perfect A-B-A-B all the way down, but you get a more random pattern like A-A-A-A-B-A-B-B-A-A-A-B-B-... Doing 1 from each is not going to get as close to random in 7 shuffles.

The mash method is prettty interresting and easy to use. Although after trying it with my sleeved pokemons cards (i have those MLP DJ Pon-3 sleeves), it seems to damage the bottom right corner of the sleeves. Of course, i might have damaged them by applying too much pressure as i was practising or maybe your sleeves were a bit tougher then mine, i don't know.

+LeHarfang I've found that most of the "art back" sleeves are kind of mediocre in quality even if they look nice. Sharp corners is a good sign that you're using cheap sleeves. If you're using sleeves made by Ultra Pro, try either Dragon Shield or KMC and see if it helps.

Yeah the ultra pro sleeves arent the best. I use the elite trainer box ones but im gonna get a different brand soon.

how do I get my sleeves to stop sticking together? straight out the pack I've inserted my deck and while shuffling they don't like to slide. any pointers?

Which brand of sleeves are you using? I've found that the better brands don't stick together as much. Moisture is usually the biggest reason for them to stick together: sweaty hands, condensation from a beverage, stuff on the play surface, tons of humidity, etc.

+Lautaro Aguirre It makes picking the cards up off of the table much easier. It's also nice if you go to a tournament/game store/somewhere that isn't home to have a clean surface for the cards.

Leverquin Netrunner is a Living Card Game, not Collectible. All its cards are sold in fixed packs with no randomization.

Never understood the ripple shuffle because if you do it an even number of times, you're just back to where you started essentially, with the deck unshuffled.

Nope, because the cards don’t interweave exactly the same way each time and there’s also some “mathery” at play. Willingdone’s description has a link to Numberphile’s RU-vid video that explains the math of shuffling as a way to randomise cards and points out roughly the number of riffle shuffles you had to perform to achieve practical randomness (I think it’s also around 10). Numberphile also points out why alternatives to the riffle (apart from the mash, which is equivalent) tend not to actually properly randomise the cards.
