Hopefully the 2nd gen has better build and material quality than the 1st. My friend bought the 1st gen Aonic 50's when they came out and after a couple of months of listening (at the office) the leather / pleather material covering the earpads started to break from the seams. He got the headphones replaced as there are no spare parts available anywhere (although Shure lists replacement earpads as a spare part). Now after a couple of years of use the material covering the earpads and the headband has broken from the seams, flopping around and exposing the foam underneath, making the headphones look like they've been heavily used for a couple of decades. Absolutely ridiculous.

Pleather is bound to degrade very badly way too early (couple of years, not months, of course), unfortunately. I have learned that the hard way from several pieces of furniture and headphones myself. Might be acceptable but only if replacements are available, affordable and swapping isn't too much of a hassle. It really is something to keep in mind when buying new headphones but most reviewers don't even touch on that topic and obviously the manufacturers would be happier if you just buy their newest headphones every few years though.

@@felixfox8810 Yeah. I've never seen headphone earpads and the headband break down as fast as they did with the 1st gen Aonic 50's my friend has. It's clearly some kind of a design & material quality issue. Maybe the seams are badly placed and the material is too tight, kind of pulling on the seams all the time. Combine that with poor material quality and you've got earpads and headband which will deteriorate way too fast compared to others. I have a pair of Sony MDR-XB950BT's which I've owned since 2014. I've used them in temperatures below -25 degrees Celsius, in rain, while it snows, in hot temperatures while exercising and sweating and the headphones still look brand new and function perfectly. Compare that to my friend using his Aonics only in a climate-controlled office while working on his computer and his headphones broke down in just a few months.

Same thing happened to mine after only about 6 months, twice, because they sent me 2 replacements. The pleather doesn't wear, the glue just gives way on the ear pads and the headband like you say. Other than that, which is unacceptable, the sound and comfort was great, and I enjoyed all the different codecs, especially the LL.

I am sad to hear that your friend has had problems. I have had mine for over a year, and not had issues, in fact they still look as good as new. So it may just have been a certain batch that had issues.

Very interesting as I’ve looked at the 1st gen for a while but they’re still expensive for the time they’ve been released. Now Gen2 would be released soon. Gonna be tough to choose as I’m also waiting for the Bose QC Ultra. Guess I'll pass as it's still on Bluetooth 5.0, a slap in the face. 3 year wait and they couldn't update it to the latest v5.3, even 5.2 and I would've consider them. On to the QC Ultra

@@Kepe I’ve now read about this on the Shure Aonic 50 thread on the head-fi forums. It’s definitely put me away from purchasing them.

Wow! A PEQ implemented into a Consumer Headphone app is awesome. If only 4 bands are available to change it is a little bit disappointing but the fact the you can the the BW, Frequency, Gain and even Type of Band it is such as a low shelf or high shelf is quite impressive! I recently bought the Focal Bathys so I won’t really be buying these but off the looks of it, these really look intriguing for those who want better sound and sound customization at a more consumer price.

Well it does have a wireless range of 100 meters so I would still call it cutting edge
@Kepe
@Kepe Год назад
Yeah pretty much any BT 5.0 device has 100 meters of range if you're in an interference- and obstacle-free environment. But the range only means they'll stay connected to your phone. At that range the data transmission rate is so low there is zero chance to listen to any music. It's a big fallacy device manufacturers like to tout in their product specs. BT 5 increased the range of low data transmission connections significantly but it has nothing to do with the range of high data transmission rate tasks such as transmitting music.

For me, the big comparison is them vs Sennheiser momentum 4. If you have a pair can you do a comparison?😊

I have both and for sound quality, I will go for Shure, but overall experience incl anc,,,??? I'll probably still go for Shure since they sound better than the Momentum 4's. They even sound better than the Technics eah-800 when you've tweaked the equilzer.

The most terrible review I've seen in years. He doesn't know the method or technologies. And using a crappy auto-tuned sample to judge the fidelity of well-recorded analog music is not a good way to showcase these headphones.

Oof, your statements about the sound reproduction sound pretty bad. The app seems to be really well made though. How well do they sound once you played around with the EQ a bit? Is the EQ preset saved on the headphones when connected to other devices? Can they be run passively through the 3.5 to 2.5mm cable?

With the gen 1 you could. No idea with the new ones, but I suspect you can.
@MichaelLaing71
@MichaelLaing71 11 месяцев назад
With the original when it was clamping too tight you just needed to stretch out the headband a little, to get it to feel much more comfortable. One of the other big things with the original Aonic 50 was the firmware updates which massively improved the speakers over time. I am wondering if we are going to get that with these speakers. But this brings me to my biggest question. With the original Aonic 50 being so good, why upgrade? The big differences seem to be the extra battery life (though I have never had an issue with the original) and the few extra bits which don't sound that useful.

I am interested in buying the Aonic 50 gen 1, I've heard that the anc is bad, did they improve it through updates? I can't decide between these and the B&W Px7 S2.
@MichaelLaing71
@MichaelLaing71 9 месяцев назад
@@loki5203 Sorry for the late reply. The ANC is not the best, but it has been improved over time. When set to normal you can hear sound around you, but when set to max, it does get rid of a lot of sound, though it won't eliminate sound of someone talking just on its own. Add the sound of music being played, I can't hear anything. I turned this videos sound up full on my tv and I couldn't hear anything whilst playing music. Personally, ANC is way down on my list of priorities. when buying a headphone. Sound quality and comfort are my 2 top things. So I made sure to try the headphones before I bought them. If I remember correctly, the Shures pads are much softer than the B&W PX7 pads, but that is just going from memory. Personally, I like the sound of the Shure and often use them connected to my amp, as well when listening at home. They don't sound as detailed as my slightly modded Shure srh1840* (but those doe get fatiguing after a while), They also don't have the wide soundstage of my Beyerdynamic COP (with velour pads), but they do strike a good middle ground). In the end, I would try and give them a listen before buying. *I have added toilet paper on the inside of the side of pads to increase the sound stage and bass. I have tried other things such as 8mm rope and kevlar rope, but that is over kill on bass.
