What's the noise floor sound like on each? I have a lot of hiss with my SM7b. I'm not hearing it with your recording. Are you using noise reduction or something?
Hi prawn 😂.. which boom arm is better, for either the Rode NT1a mic, or the Scarlett mic (available with the Focusrite audio interface 2i2 3rd gen, mic & headphones bundle), please? Ta for now..future Voiceover dude. Steve
@@lilScruffers Hey, I actually never purchased the NT1 5th Gen yet because I’ve been extremely busy with other things. I might get around to it eventually. I’m glad to hear it’s not just me who notices this. If you go on a bunch of forums you’ll be laughed at by these audio elitists, but I really question how “elite” they really can be if they don’t notice this white noise on the SM7b. I think what we’re expecting is simply expected behavior on the SM7b. There’s no real solution. It sucks because I think the microphone itself is phenomenal in terms of quality. I just can’t deal with the white noise and high noise floor. I need higher quality recordings. But I think the NT1 5th Gen is probably a phenomenal pick considering it has one of best noise floors and has the bonus feature of USB and 32 bit built in allowing for recordings that literally can’t clip too.
@@lilScruffers Also, I’m not sure about your application, but I think the SM7b is really not made for my kind of application which is spoken voice at fairly low levels. I think all these RU-vidrs and streamers are using heavy post processing to get rid of the hiss/noise floor. But personally I’d rather fix the problem at its source and make the untouched recordings higher quality.
@lizardpeter yeah they must be doing a ton of processing, it really pisses me off and boggles my mind how others can sound great for thee but not for me?? godammit
@lizardpeter i received my nt1 5th gen and the metal inside of the mic is sticking out, my lucky day amiright? got in touch with rode, they are very helpful
I should probably just break down and get the sm7b but the m 201 TG combined with Shure A81WS wind screen is still bouncing around my head. Another video Idea might be going over your settings for your microphones (though I am not sure that's in keeping with your theme on the channel) though perhaps you have already done such.
I don't see how a comparison can be made between these two, they're in completely different price ranges and levels of quality. One is also a purely USB microphone and the other is XLR.
