I have always struggled with adding new thread neatly but hopefully no more as this video is excellent, thank you 👍

As a new tatter who's only just reached my first instance of "uh-oh! Out of thread error!", I found this very interesting and helpful. Definitely going to be using loading threads now that I know about them, too! Also nice to have a tutorial in my native accent for once - complete with maggie commentary! I had to pause the video at first to check it wasn't our local flock that I was hearing. xD

I'm so glad you enjoyed it. I'm in Melbourne, where are you? Are you a member of Noo Bear Tatting on FB? I have in person catch ups (called Noo Bear's Den) you're very welcome to join us. I'm now waiting for you to tell me you're in Perth or Darwin! 🤣

@@NooBearAus Haha, yep, would have to catch a plane to get there, so maybe not. Perhaps if I'm over that way to see family at some point. I don't tend to use facebook much, unfortunately.

Thank you so much for your reply about the bird songs in the background of your “Adding new thread midway” video the exotic bird song was the Magpie I was enthralled with this song we have nothing like it here in British Columbia Canada where I live thank you again for your tatting videos they are so clear and easy to follow along with the wealth of information you include I have learned and am continuing to learn so much again i can’t thank you enough 🥰😍😘

You're welcome. The magpie has a most beautiful warble - they can also imitate things like police sirens etc. One of my favourite birds. I'm glad you're enjoying the videos!

Thank you! This is great info but I’m nervous about how it may weaken the finished lace. I have a tat cat. His function in life is to attempt to grab tatting and run off with it. He’s also stolen various shuttles, scissors, and even full sized skeins of yarn. We’d still need to be careful of these join areas after the project is finished wouldn’t we? Your background birds sound very exotic to me (in the midwest US) but then I’ve been questioned about noises in my videos and tried to puzzle out what noise they’re hearing because I hear nothing. I finally figured out they’ve never heard cicadas before. I don’t even notice them because they are a summer constant every minute day and night.

It's no different to making a join at the end of an element. I always make sure I go over a minimum of 8 stitches, you could do more if you prefer. I had to play the video so I could listen out and pay attention to the birds! We are very lucky, we have heaps of different birds here. At the 0:36 and 1:38 mark a gorgeous maggie (magpie) starts to warble. We have lot's of them here and feed them occasionally. At 2:27 you can hear a Pee Wee. 2:40 are parrots, we get musk parrots and Rainbow Lorikeets - these guys are noisy little buggers! (They are quite noisy at 3:07.

@@NooBearAus Great news these joins are strong! Super great because I’ve ended up cutting out rows when I ran out of thread awkwardly (away from a junction or ring and chain). I do pick out elements with sad frequency but there’s a limit to how far I can go because some rings just refuse to release. Those curled up tails are also a pain to tat over. So I often resort to the scissors and have to do the row over if I misjudge my thread. I HAVE to try this!!! Thank you so much for sharing all this great info!!!

@@kirsten07734 I'm curious as to how you're unpicking your rings. Do you go down thru a picot and push the legs of the picot open? Have a look and see if this helps you, start watching at 3:50 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ltovRI1bCAg.html
