Part 2: • Shyheim on His Epic 19...
-----------
Shyheim stopped by VladTV for his first-ever interview, and in the first clip he opened up about growing up in Staten Island. He explained that his mother had him when she was 16 and she was battling a drug problem and his father was in prison, so his grandparents took care of him until they passed away when he was 11. From that point on, Shyheim was raised by the neighborhood, and he got a big break with a record deal at 13 for $350,000 with Virgin Records. He explained that due to child labor laws, half of the money was put into a trust fund until he was 21 to protect it from anyone taking it away from him. To hear more, including what he did with the first $30,000 he was given, hit the above clip.

Us gen x ...especially black kids....were really a lot of us left on our own. I wish more attention was paid to the trauma of being a kid of that era especially with the crack era getting dropped off in our neighborhoods right as we were little.

Chi Ali's interview was interesting, but I think Shyheim's will be better because I come from that generation and I remember it like yesterday when he got booked for the vehicular homicide. I thought he had more time to do, but he's back like he never left. #WuTangForever

Shout Out to Shyheim aka The Rugged Child... ✌🏾 Glad to see him free and back on his grind... 💯 And much respect for being able to articulate effectively without saying "Ya Know What I Mean" a million times... Unlike most grown ass men in Hip Hop, trying to be cool, but sounding stupid AF, smh! 🤦🏾‍♂️ Big ups to Vlad for this one!

Shyheim and Chi-Ali. Both the greatest underaged rappers of the 90s. Crazy the shit they got into at such young ages, both good and unfortunate. Goes to show that child fame affects for than just the child actors.
