+Apparition she's explained she makes the wig a brand instead of her face... There's absolutely no other way you can keep you're privacy and be a performer/signer than turn you're back or cover you're eyes, who cares if it's gimmicky her personalities not
@ Okay its your opinion. I have mental depression, alcoholic n stressed, for me many of her songs are masterpiece. Listened to her music n lyrics are like find counseling, and i'm a man almost 60 yo.
Spooky but I don't think so. Her chest and throat appear to be in the right position away from the camera. But she doesn't want to show her dark demon eyes as seen in the picture on the wall behind the interviewer. This is what the Illuminati mind control satanists have done to her. MK Ultra mind control. Look it up.
I REALLY LIKE SIA !!! I respect that she doesn't want to show her face, and I don't see why people should hate her for this, because it is her choice. Sia would rather have her music stand on her own, rather than people judging the music on her appearance, which is what a lot of people do when they listen to music. Musically I think she is great, she has a amazing singing voice, and is a really good songwriter, I'm glad she is at the top in pop right now !!!
She obviously has a mental illness (I'm a licensed mental health professional). She clearly suffers from a severe case of Social Anxiety Disorder. I'm not criticizing or judging her, but I wished that she would get help and seek treatment. Unfortunately, at this point, she has chosen not to.
Richard67502 If that were the case she wouldn't even do the interview nor would she sound as relaxed as she did. Also there's videos of her in interviews before she choose not to show her face and she's perfectly fine. Did you ever have that particular anxiety? :P
Sia is that person every Pop star should look up to. Pure, Clean, Dedicated, Hard working, and humble. She really pounds in the hammer that you don't have to be nearly naked to become successful in the music industry today. Lol, if i had her writing ability, my school essays would be a breeze. Stay Wonderful Sia:D
+Jamie Rose I dont think she illustrates the point you don,t have to be half naked. She illustrates the point women being judged for their apparence is very draining for them and reflects badly on their work, to the point where the choice for a telented woman was to hide herself rather than face this criticism. Just like half naked women, her choice reflects upon the undue pressure put on women's appearance by society, She made the clever choice for herself by taking herself away from this game but what it shows is sad.
+Jamie Rose At the same time what she does might help - for once that people are juging a woman's work without being blinded by the specificities of her objectified face or else.
+ Ss yp What part of his comment was degrading about other people's clothing? Nearly naked? If you spend an afternoon watching music videos that's most of what you'll see, so he just stated a fact. And shaming people? He didn't name anyone (which is kind of required for shaming, shaming anonymously doesn't work quite that well ;) ) His comment was about as nice as you can get it...
+Ss yp I can't blame you for thinking I was triggered, reading my post back... appears much more aggressive than how I was feeling at that moment, so I apologise; I actually agree with the don't-shame-people-to-praise others thing, but mostly when it's like "she's so much better than ....". In this case, it's not even clear if he meant the other female artists themselves, or the music industry/society in general that makes female artists (think they have to) dress like that. Either way, I think it's sad, so hence my appreciation for another person who seemed to share my opinion, and therefore the 'need' to defend it :)
+Ss yp "It's sad when a woman is forced to wear something she wouldn't have worn otherwise." That is specifically what I was talking about, the idea that they have to wear that, or otherwise they won't sell any music, it seems like an insult to their capabilities to me... but then again, my opinion on this subject isn't black and white either: three years ago I was defending the 'objectified' topless women in Robin Thicke's 'Blurred lines' video, because they seemed to enjoy themselves and the whole thing seemed rather harmless and playful to me... so the real question is: when did I get so conservative? ;)
The face hiding ISN'T a hard concept to grasp.. Unless someone goes looking for her face you don't see it... therefore she isn't well recognised, therefore she can go about in public fairly normally... For example people like Justin, Rhianna, Taylor etc are saturated by the media, you know what these people look like even if you don't like their music. I love Sia's music but I've never felt the need to look up what she looks like, therefore I could probably walk straight past her and never know.
As an Australian I feel it's probably particularly important for her having grown up here to not be recognised in the US. Here in Oz, we have a few big celebrities like Russel Crowe who live here and live very normal lives because we don't go nuts over celebrities. About the only way to be a celebrity and not have people notice you in the US would be hiding your face.
I can’t listen to it. It’s too much. It’s so incredibly beautiful but I break down every time so I have to turn it off. It was the Six Feet Under finale that did it for me. 😢
I wanted to cry at the end when she started crying. I am so glad she is happy now and she is doing so well for herself. She is so relented. I wish she would show her face more and not hide it just because she doesn't have the "look" of what is expected for t.v. Lady Gaga didn't either but went w/ it but that is her choice and I respect it. I get why she doesn't want to become famous either. Fame isn't what it's all cracked up to be at times. I discontinue she wrote so many popular songs and to do it in just 40 minutes! Amazing! True telent and her voice is lovely! I wish I had been given the gift of music like she was given.
+bukemerecel but it's one of her reasons, though. She said in interviews that she didn't want people making fun of her hair, or her skin or making a big deal if she gained weight. She seems a little insecure about her image, which is completely normal, and she suffered from depression too. I kind love her more being like this, instead of doing the typical pop star diva thing, thinking she is fucking flawless and shoving it in our faces. (sorry about my english. not my native language)
I am very similar to Sia except that I want to be a pop singer and hide my voice, and people can come to my concerts and I just stand at the mic and look at them for 2 hours.
Wait! She doesn't show her face, because she doesn't want to be recognized? But we all know how she looks? Just google her name and you'll find old pictures of her? I don't get this!
I completely understand her choice. She doesn't want to face people. They can be really mean sometimes, judging her... so i understand her. Anyway she has an amazing voice and that's what matters the most.
Livnat Perez I'm sober 10 + years & I'm her age - Trust me when I tell you that what's she's been through & at this age - Fame is Not something you want - it's a curse, on;y kids & Deeply F@cked up people WANT to lose their privacy.... Her voice is INSANE - what a gift
What a beautiful soul... The way she says "Since I made the decision to take care of my own sanity and serenity, my life's improved so much.", you can definitely tell she's been through hell and back. Bless her heart
Its worked to maker her famous. The thing is there ARE pictures of her face everywhere. At this point continuing to hide your face since everyone already knows what you look like actually seems like a publicity stunt and now in my opinion is just a bit odd and rude. Honestly though a LOT of artists would love to NOT have to show their face. i'm not getting any younger and honestly i'd prefer not to show mine. but sadly the industry in large cares so much about image I seriously doubt they would put up with it from most of us though i think a lot of musicians would prefer NOT to be seen. you'd be surprised I'm sure. The media machine and MTV screwed us all. I wish my music could just be about the music I guess I'm jealous. Good for her. Wish the rest of us could do the same.
I wouldn't call it rude, but I do think it's odd. I was a fan of Sia's music before "Chandelier" blew up, so to suddenly have people talking about this artist who never shows her face and doesn't like to face the audience while performing was bizarrely odd for me, especially when it all it takes is a youtube search of her Letterman appearance for "Soon We'll be Found" and a google search of past album art and it becomes obvious that's more than not true. She's even made face front appearances in old music videos. I dunno, maybe she figures, by and large this new fan base won't look for this stuff or care? Who knows.
But those pictures could be very old, and who knows if her graves disease has gotten any worse. She just doesn't want to judged because of it and there's nothing rude about that
dudey Pierson but if she doesn't want people to regonize her or don't want to be famous why she uploaded old performances on vevo now,we all can see how she looks like in those videos, isn't this contradictory and unneseccary.
it so insane to me how she went from an alcoholic and drug user to a star. all along she had this insane talent that no one really appreciated & was overlooked. the talent is so pure
Sia's song Chandelier genuinely helped me reevaluate everything after I had begun falling into alcoholism. I'm a photographer so I understand it takes a lot of courage to be different in the world of contemporary art. However, I must say these songs do hold an impact on people & the arts could influence & change lives. Therefore I am forever thankful for the art Sia produces & how it has helped me and surely plenty others as well.
@@lindzer5089 absolutely. I am so happy to have gone through years of alcohol addiction. I came out on the other side amd habe been sober since 8/20/17. I have such an amazing appreciation for life now.
you can be an amazing singer and have crazy vocals but if you can't write your own songs and music then honestly I lose respect for you. Sia is a true talent, she can come up with lyrics and a music in less than an hour AND can sing. To me that's real talent.
+Michelle Dorantes I mean I count a good voice as an instrument. Not everyone can play more than one, some can't play any at all. I respect any artist that can reach notes that are hard to hit/reach. Just because they can't write their own songs doesn't mean they aren't talented though.
+Magix Plays Exactly, it's always so black and white if people put it like that; of course it's a bonus if you can do all those things, but what about the people who write killer songs and sing like shit? Or people who don't write music, but come up with the most brilliant lyrics? where does one draw the line between 'talented' and 'not talented'? I could even argue that it takes real talent to bring across an emotion that someone else put on paper, it's easier if they were your own emotions...
***** you seem angry. beyonce is a great singer, anyone can get a song and not make it into something, great. beyonce does that. give credit where its due.
I'm not hating on anyone who doesn't write their own songs- I'm just pointing out that there are many artists out there who are 100% involved with every facet of their music, but don't get the credit that's due. It's esp. Distressing when an artist will put their name on writing credits when they didn't pen shit. That's appalling and happens quite a lot in this industry.
It's annoying how people think that she's being rude by not showing her face. When you can write a hit song in under an hour, then you can talk. It's her life, her music, her brand. She can do whatever she wants.
It saddens me that even though Sia gave such a respectable reason as to why she turns her back to cameras, that there are still those of you who will call her weird... or address her as if she's doing something wrong. Fact is, pure PERFECTION wouldn't even be good enough for you people. You'd still find something to nitpick at.
I know what shes going thorugh. Graves Disease is something me and one of my friends have. Its terrible. I can see where shes coming from and WHY she doesn't want the attention
Michael Rabel I can't really explain it.. You know that feeling when your going to cry? aNd your throat swells up? Its that feeling but alot worse. And emotionally it affects me, Not so much physically, but it can at time
I love how honest and real she seems to be. She started crying after being successful for years already, that's beautiful. She's so grateful for so many things especially after having personal struggles. To see that and witness that from a celebrity is a rarity. I love her. :)
***** Thanks for an unwanted exert from your life story presented in wall of text from. Sia acts like this for publicity and as a media stunt... ho hum.
***** No, this is unacceptable. She could have just talked to him face to face and angled the cameras so that we couldn't see her face. The way she's doing it is clearly for attention
I love the fact that she doesn't show her face. You're supposed to admire her MUSIC and her TALENT, not how she looks. I have a deeper appreciation for her because she doesn't use her body to win you over. In a way it also gives me hope that more people can understand that what you look like isn't everything. It's your personality, your talents, your flaws, that make you beautiful.
Just who's struggling with addiction and depression will understand why she almost cries in the end. I'm battling those two things. This amazing woman can put into words what I can even say. Her songs defines me. She deserves every single achievement. She's not just a singer, she's a pain teller. I can't describe how I love her. God bless you, Sia.
It's pretty obvious why she chooses not to show her face, she wants people to know her for her songwriting and her voice rather than her looks. She doesn't want to lose her sanity due to fame. It makes a lot of sense and she is very smart for doing that. It's still quite unfair how little recognition she actually gets for the songs she writes, and not a lot of people know she is behind so many hits in past years. She´s extremely talented.
I dont know... maybe it's not 'hiding her face' but 'turning her back' we all know pics of her already spread everywhere... maybe 'turning her back' has a hisden meaning (or Im just paranoid)
i'm not gonna say she should or shouldn't show her face on camera... that's her personal decision... but maybe she could've interviewed with him "proper' and the camera could've just shot so it didn't show her face... just a thought! love her writing. don't know a ton of it but she's talented for sure. as someone in the public eye i do understand her reasoning too!
yea the interview was weird and she could have done what you suggested, but hey that's her business. as for talent- some people are so lucky and she is one of them
the way she did the interview is what makes her memorable... she may not want to be visually famous, but everyone aspires to leave their mark and be memorable. Like she said in the interview, "it's part of the concept"
It may not have been her choice; it could have been his or the program's. She doesn't show her face (anymore) on camera or to crowds, but I've never heard/seen her not face the interviewer (Such as Howard Stern, she faced him). Though, regardless, as someone with social anxiety, I 'get' part of it.Her talent is awesome though :)
I think the fact that she wants people to concentrate on her music, instead of her appearance if absolutely great. There is way too many artist who use their appearance to kinda fool us to thinking that they are good artist, when they really are not...Sia has an amazing voice and is a great songwriter, a true talent which is rare nowadays.
I'm so proud of her. To know that she was saying she can't imagine touring & now she's touring this year. I got to see her in concert just like a week & a half ago
Honestly if sia would've sang all of her original songs . She would've already been the best female singer of all time . She deserves the world. I hope she gets it
I think Lady Gaga has a monopoly on that sort of thing at the moment. Also your description made me flashback to those weird things Michael Jackson used to put on his kids, thanks for that walk down memory lane, Lol
I think it might be her way of mocking the media. I think she's either symbolically "turning her back on" the media or be making a statement about everybody talking about her "behind her back".
kanye wore a mask for his entire Yeezus tour. she should wear a mask when shes performing because it looks awkward when she performs live with her back turned
Beautiful, her voice is amazing. I don't mind if she doesn't face the camera. I have social anxiety so its really understandable. One of my favorite artists.
People saying it's disrespectful that Sia has her back turned, but doesn't it make the people judging her disrespectful for not taking the time to understand why she does this? Logic.
Because she has anxiety and can't cope being inform of cameras and crowds... Has turned to drugs when she got famous in 2007 cause she has anxiety and couldn't stand inform of cameras and people and she almost killed herself she even wrote a suicide note .. Chandelier is about that and the song that made her famous "breath me" is about her dead boyfriend
Yes and it is not easy being famous because literally, artists can't have their own personal space. And also, given the pressure from the media, I understand why some artists had issues just like lindsay lohan. These people are humans too but yet people, especially the media, treat these people like shit.
Did she say that? Because I have seen her perform several times going back to 2005 and have met her as well a few times. She always seemed very comfortable. Very quirky and outgoing.
Sia should be an example for all the people and the selfish artist who think that beauty is the most important thing in the world. They think they can shine just because the camera and fans will love them. Music is for ears, and was made for make us feel something, to show us there's another way of communicating. She has a lot of heart, talent, and that's worth for me.
Wow this is my first time hearing about Sia. I am so out of the loop. What an amazing person. I agree with why she dicided to not show her face. Her voice and writing talent is awesome.
Wait, but we know what she looks like. It's not like she is Banksy or something. Why would you hide your face when eveybody knows how you look like. I don't understand.
This woman touches hearts with her music. Very upsetting to see how she continuously gets scolded for the Elastic Hearts music video. Sia, if you read these comments at all, Just know this. You have some of us out here that Love you for you! Keep writing your beautiful songs. Keep uplifting others with your amazing story. Very proud.
The fact that Sia can sit there and honestly say that her life went from crap to good while crying says so much about her character. She doesn't act like shes perfect. She doesn't act like her life is perfect. She is genuine and raw. Her voice is not only amazing, but her performances are like a breath of fresh air without all of the coverups. I will always respect Sia for what she's done and for where she has come from. Any person that has had to fight for their own life/sanity will show their dedication through their talents. AND SHE'S ACTUALLY WEARING CLOTHES.
Honestly this is by far the best and most informative interview ever on Sia. Props to the interviewer for asking really excellent questions that weren’t generic and common like how every interviewers would ask.
if you know Sia from other interviews, she has shown her face, and toured without disguise. But she has her reasons for shying away. she will reveal herself for animal charity events, or to backstage vip fans at concerts in small groups, and gives you a glimpse in the Alive bonus feature video, only while she sings.. Because its exactly that, a fun bonus for the fans that want to bother with behind scene videos. she knows you can google her, but at the same time, alot of people wont search her face and for thst chunk, she can, to a degree get away with going out in public more.. and personally, I love the creative and fun ways she goes about performances and interviews, from doubles, to manican hands and wigs.. it shows her clever, playful side.. it isn't a gimmick and she lets the music speak for itself andi can appreciate and respect that. she always adds other artistic elements to performance, such as the sign language from her old hit she performed on Letterman once, which is one of her fav late night hots, so a big push to make her jump at the chance to be a guest,
I saw some comments on here saying she has a "facial deformation". This is not true. Here in Australia, Sia is the most respected singer song writer that has ever come out of this country. It's unbelievably hard to break the American music market. I'm glad she is so successful now. She's been famous in Australia since she was 22. Now only famous, on a pop level, globally at age 39. So she worked hard for it. The song that kicked off her career was "Breathe Me". Glad that we can call her an Australian musician. She's done our music industry proud.
I've watched her since before she moved to America and started writing songs. Since Zero 7...and I'm American. I drive alot with my job and have music on, I get tired of some of the crap music here in America, and I branch out by listening to a variety of artists. I'm not an insane fan, but I believe she has a gorgeous voice and is right up there with divas like Celine Dion a Barbra Streisand.
