Short vidoe of my 3 year old daughter Sianna riding Cessna a 6 year old Thoroughbred / Draft Cross mare. She is 16.3 hands. Cessna is my husband's horse, but this summer Sianna's horse came up lame (not Lady) and we had to improvise...Sianna does awesome with Cessna and even though we have Lady back Sianna has continued to ride Cessna. They are now riding in the big arena with out any assistance at all. To all that have commented about the helmet. Sianna is required to wear a helmet every time she rides. She was riding Lady right before we did this video and I missed it that she took the helmet off. It was super hot and she must have set the helmet by the gate. Please keep the comments on this video professional and no bad language. Thank you.

There was a time when helmets were not even an item anyone thought to use. My children all rode without helmets..... they survived well and one is an instructor now with many of her own mounts. The helmets are now used and can prevent serious harm....... This video is very precious as are the 'subjects' especially your 3 year old ! Great job, mom! BTW --- that's not a 'thorough / draft cross' = it's a four legged 'baby-sitter' ! =D

Would you let your toddler climb all over the back of the car while traveling highway speed? Forget to buckle them into their car seat because they're having too much "fun"? Would you not bother to safety check your parachute before sky diving because your too busy enjoying the moment? There's a point where it becomes reckles endangerment. @@MihaDuV first of all I would never sky dive lol. But I know it was stupid of me to forget my friend wasn't wearing a helmet, because that is a rule when you are riding on my horse, especially on my property. I wouldn't let a kid climb up on the top of a car while driving, because that would be STUPID if I did😂 And I DO make sure my younger brother is wearing a helmet when he rides, but my friend was old enough to chose to be stupid and not wear a helmet. But I'm trying to make sure that I don't forget to wear a helmet, and I have never let my younger brothers on a horse without a helmet, after falling and being trampled the helmets what kept me safe😄 Yes it was dumb, and I hope that the other people felt stupid enough that they would never forget to have there kid wear a helmet

Some horses are born to love kids. When a horse is properly trained to follow instructions, it doesn't matter how big (or small) the horseman is as long as the horse knows who's the boss. Remember horses run away from fear. This horse is receiving clear directions in a familiar routine. It's confident of no abuse and has no need to defend itself. Good job, mom. Nice horse.

To all those who keep saying ( some rudely) "read the description!": so the wee girl removed her helmet due to heat discomfort, yes. Then during the next 15 - 20 minutes of riding, an accident could still have occured, with possible serious injury. (I know something about concussions). We take a chance every time we mount a horse, but common sense should prevail, especially with a young child!

She should definitely wear protection. It is a little more safe But it is sadly enough not gonna make someone invincible. If the horse would turn during lounging and kick her she'd be very badly hurt or even killed. :( The helmet isn't gonna protect her if she gets kicked or reared on Body protection could be better but still you're not 100% safe though. That's like someone saying I have a airbag in my car l can never get hurt If you drive with 100 miles a hour into a wall you're not gonna survive :( that airbag ain't gonna protect you :( But l definitely would say give her protection so atleast she's a little more safe.

We all said to her that it would be a very good idea to wear a helmet... But she would not listen. She said that she trusted her horse and that a helmet would make her look ugly and stupid. Long story short: One day when she was riding her horse, the horse got scared of something. She got thrown of her horse and she landed head first. As always she didn't have a helmet on... She ended up in the hospital (in a coma) for a very very long time fighting for her life. Today she is disabled and has difficulties with walking, talking, memory etc. Sorry for my looong answer 🙂 Just felt like I had to share her story.

To people who yell about that girl who rides without a helmet on and are scared that horse might hurt her. That horse was trained to deal with children like her and she herself has most probably been riding all her life. I grew up riding horses myself and I am proud to purchase a horse that I can ride with no helmet on and feel safe. For some of us who ride we love to feel the wind in our hair. So everyone who is worried or freaking out just leave the poor mother and kid alone as they know what their doing. I applaud this girl and would love to meet her and ride with her oh horseback as she is showing that people think you need all these things trying to make it "safe". No we’re not hating we’re trying to keep her safe. Doesn’t matter how good the horse is or the rider you should never ever ride without a helmet it is too dangerous

That is just way too cute, Sianna! You have a new fan! You remind me of me- only at that age, I couldn't get the adults to hand me the reins..which insulted me. So, I would sneak ride the horses. I was a pro before they considered me a beginner. I made makeshift bridles out of baling twine, and the horses would get next to the fence and let me climb on. They seemed to have as much fun as I did. Most of my sneak riding was not in a corral, it was in a wooded acreage with streams, irrigation ditches, fallen trees (my favorite mounting sites) and open pasture. These are the best memories of my life, and also my two horses Geraldine, a jet black TB mare, and Bobbito a very colorful Appy gelding. They were my dream horses. They are gone now, but lived to be very old. Geraldine was 33 and Bobbito was 31. I had them all their life. Their parents were some of the horses I was sneak riding in that pasture!

Diana Bravestorm I know that but I'm 14 and iv been riding horses my whole life and never once have I got to a serious injury and the only time I don't wear a helmet is when grooming and swimming with my horse because we can under water and my helmet will get wet
@ElleCasey
@ElleCasey 9 лет назад
Amelia Veary Okay, so following your reasoning ... since you've never been in a car accident by age 14, you will always be safe in a car and don't need to wear a seatbelt. Since you've never been kissed by age 14, you will die an old lady never having kissed a man. Since you've never had a paying job by age 14, you will always be unemployed. I think you see where I'm going with this. There's a reason why any barn that wants insurance must insist that all minors wear helmets. It's because actuaries (the experts who study statistics on horseriding accidents - FACTS) can show you that if you don't wear a helmet, you are at significant risk of being badly injured or killed by not wearing a helmet when riding horses. EVERYONE who rides horses eventually falls from a horse. You do not decide when it happens, where it happens, or how you come off or how you land. All you can do is protect yourself for the time that it does happen. And the reason why the law is only for minor kids is because kids have a tendency to believe they are immortal and that nothing can happen to them. They have not yet developed that part of their brain yet that tells them when something is dangerous. Older usually equals wiser, but for the adults who don't wear helmets, the insurance company knows they make that decision with the brain to realize they could die from it. If an adult wants to take a risk, he can. A kid can't make the rational decision to do that, so the insurance companies make it for them (just in case the adults in their lives are too ignorant to make the decision for them). So I'm going to say it again: Lady in this video, please always make sure your adorable girl is wearing a helmet any time she's on a horse, no matter how hot or sweaty she is. A hot and sweaty head is ever so much better than a fractured skull, a concussion, or death.

Helmet shmelmet. Growing up I never wore a helmet and half the time I snuck out of the house and slept in the damned barn with my horse. I also rode her around without any saddle or bridle all the time, took afternoon naps on her back, and as I got older played crazy trail games with my friends like running by and pulling the girth loose or bridle off or seeing how fast we could go while switching horses. I got on everything from stubborn mules to draft horses. That's just the life growing up with horses.... We're a little tougher and a little crazier than other people and we like it that way. Keep your parenting opinions to yourselves...

I noticed some people are saying you don't need to wear a helmet if you trust your horse: I would never ride my main lesson horse without a helmet, even though I'm not allowed to in my English riding lessons. The horse, Flash, is super sweet and unbelievably safe, but one time I almost fell off because he TRIPPED at a canter. He didn't buck, his foot went into a small rut in the outdoor arena. I'm just trying to say that anything can happen even on a horse you trust.

Amelia Veary Lost a friend (and wonderful horse person) because of a freak accident she had nothing to do with. All riders should have helmets on - young and old alike, hot or not. You do a fantastic job as a mom, giving her this opportunity and teaching your little angel how to handle horses. Protect her first and foremost!! You would forever regret if anything happened to your sweet baby.

Western lope is a little slower than English canter like Jog is alittle slower than trot but still faster than the gait before it. Lope and Jog are slower to conserve energy but still cover more ground this was important for ranchers who traveled long distances herding cattle.
