Musiikkitalon avajaiset - Finlandia Finlandia op.26 (san. V.A. Koskenniemi) Helsingin kaupunginorkesteri Radion sinfoniaorkesteri Sibelius-Akatemian suuri kuoro Jukka-Pekka Saraste
I am from America. As I turn 75 yoa, and am losing my battle with inoperable cancer, I listen to Finlandia daily. It always brings tears to my eyes, which I believe cleanses one's soul. I don't fear death, I accept it. I will continue listening to most beautiful piece of music ever written, as long as GOD gives me life.
I strongly recommend his symphony #7. I’ve had a similar relationship with it listening nearly daily. Love Kurt Sanderling version with Berliner Sinfonie.
@@kcgreen2537 Seconded, especially for the phase of life original poster is in. It is a beautiful, concise, majestic statement and Sibelius' perfected masterpiece. I would strongly recommend Segerstam with Danish orchestra (*not* so much the Helsinki phil)
This song is about freedom and the perseverance of self governance no matter how difficult it might get sometimes. This might encapsulate the Finnish "SISU" mentality. I am very sad to hear about your situation and I send all my best wishes to you and your family. As Yohannes said previously, we will high five each other on the other side..
This is how it's supposed to be played! There are many version of this by different orchestras. They all seem to lack the certain (Finnish) sentiment. This piece isn't supposed to be joyful, but a bit sad, yet still strong. Excellent.
i want it epic and sad but also happy. When i was a little boy, my grandfather played this and said it was the war with the russians, when the intense part begun in this song. He never hated anybody but he was a child of his time.
The Finnish people does not do anything in half measures. I had the privilege to work for a Finnish mining technology company out of the South African office and believe me, they are a great nation. They appear to be a boring people but once you get under their skin and get accepted in their social circle, you are bonded for life. Did 4 tours in Finland, Helsinki, (Espoo) and Tornio up north. Jean Sibelius makes me want to go back all the time
RU-vid does some very startling things with ads. It didn't used to be this bad, but a couple of years ago they sold out big time to the corporate interests. I am certainly looking forward to an alternative platform becoming available one day ... soon I hope.
I’m born in Sweden, my parents are from Finland and my really first time really listen to this,Sibelius “Finlandia” hymns, I can see all what my motherland has gone through all this years, we could be proud of this wonderful country and the people who has made it possible for us now to live here
This music piece brought tears in my eyes. It remembers me to my late father (1920-1995), who sung this with his choir. I'm not from Finland, but this is a very impressive piece.
also in 2016 there was a quiz in every EU country. they asked 100 people Would they defend their country in every situation. 74/100 answerd yes, and the most .... so youre right. Finland is a patriotic piece of land
I always thought they should rearrange this for the official national anthem of Finland. Many others in Finland share this feeling with me - that this is the true national anthem and always has been. This exemplifies the REAL Finnish spirit instead of the German papal march written by a German we currently have as the national anthem.
I hadn't seen this video till tonight. it is extraordinarily moving, not only the music, but the way the singers are distributed informally around the audience makes it feel everyone is united as one nation. I visited Finland once, more than 40 years ago, and will never forget it. A beautiful and civilised and brave country.
Hello Mike. I chose finland as my home too when I spent a year abroad in Tampere and knew i had to return to that place later on. Now I'd be ready but it is incredibly hard to find a job there. Can you help me?
What a wonderful performance. As I recall the ratattat in the trumpets in this performance are not overblown as is often the case elsewhere. Very crisp performance and the brass are magnificent. This is my favorite performance.
Finlandia is a deep piece of music, also broad and high. It talks about our noble aspirations, the ideal homeland of our dreams, where life will reveal its true meaning. The winds, chords, percussions, all imitate sounds of nature in a sublime way, and the choir brings everything to a climax.
When ever I hear Finlandia, I close my eyes and once more I am that young man so many moons ago in Finland, the music of Sibelius was introduced to me by a very beautiful Finnish lady.
Hi Peter, many years ago I served in the Dutch Merchant Navy, went ashore at a certain port in Finland and at a dance met and fell in love with a beautiful Finnish lady, I will stop at that point, as what I have written is part of a book I am attempting to write about my time as marine engineer officer.
Listening to this beautiful music reminds me of my co-worker from many years ago--Urho (Al) Lehikoinen, a great Finnish patriot in WWII. God bless you, Al !
@@1brewski2 Finland never joined the Axis, Germany supplied equipment to Finland and Finland let German soldiers be on Finland, they never had an alliance though.
Remember this piece and others were to commemorate the extraordinary heroism of Finland’s defiance and defence of their homelands against overwhelming odds fitting therefore this should set them apart from other nations, the music is awe inspiring.
Idiootti... Joo ja voit tulla hakkaan mut. Tai ainakin yrittään... Opettele englantia tai yleensäkin opettele keskusteleen. Sanottavaa olis mutta en haaskaa aikaani enempää
I havent't seen a more respectfull elite crowd before, the decibel level before the orchestra begins is even low from a library, not a single phone or flash or even a whisper. The term civilisation has many aspects but most important of all is this display of utmost respect to art and artists.
It's THE song of Finland. So it would be very very rude to make anykind of noice .I think even your own grandmother would punch you in the face if you made some stupid noice here.
By far the greatest and most inspired performance of finlandia I have ever heard!!! So true to the Finnish soul , while yet transending all ethnic and nationalistic boundaries and speaking to the hopes and aspirations of all men who desire freedom!!! The interactive placement of the chorus with the audience was a stroke of genius !!! Which even yielded more power to this epic performance!!! Take note ! This is how you break in a new music Hall !!!
When I hear music like this I can’t help but marvel at the hearts and soul of all the great European composers. Today’s ”music” is written by people who no longer believe in the soul. This is understandable since they have none.
I know only two Finns, namely, Sibelius and Torvalds. Both contributed, the latter one still contributing, greatly to enriching my life. I always love to hear Sibelius. Torvalds freed me from unbearable Windows to enjoy computing. I will soon prepare a collection of my favorites in a memory card to be played at my death bed. Sibelius #2, #5, #7 and Finlandia will surely be in it. I wish I could go when Finlandia is being played.
The beautiful melancholy of this piece is only truly understood via the deep melancholy sitting in the Finnish psyche. It isn’t depressive, it’s soulful darkness. Darkness of the Saturn as the Greek mythology would put it. Beautiful. I can never hear this and not cry 🌈
what a beautiful setup and beautiful music. Agreed about spoiling this by talking about debts that is historically beyond a single individual to comment on. I agree one of the best versions I have heard
Countless thousands have made the ultimate sacrifice for this land and it's people. It will never be forgotten, and this masterpiece of Sibelius will remind future generations of it all. The centuries of struggle to free this nation from neighbouring slavers has not been in vain. We stand on our own now, let it be so for all time.
Listening to Sibelius' this masterpiece , your soul is polished , you can step into the way arriving at the spiritual enlightenment . From Tokyo of the Land of the Rising Sun 🇯🇵
Learned about background of 'Finlandia' from our company group founder's montly 'voice' letter. I am currently working with several FInish tech-oriented companies and felt some special thought on relationship with Finish culture as Japanese.
Perhaps we shouldn't be talking financial debts on this page, but Germany also paid to the last penny of what it received as loans under the Marshall plan, according to De Zayas et al... About Finland, wholeheartedly agree.
You must be working for a bank, your comment pisses me off. My Uncle, that got killed in action, defending Finlands independance against the Soviets, that was armed with american equipment, says from his grave, Ef off! Belive it or not, but I am Half Finnish Karelian. Over &Out!
I, for one, would like to point out that not all of us measure the worth of a people by its repayment of debt. However, many Americans only see the financial benefits of interacting with other nations and ignore their people.
The first time I heard this music was when it was skillfully used in the film "Die Hard 2" (1990) and I have loved the full piece ever since. Placing the choir amongst the audience is something I've never seen before but must provide a truly stereophonic experience for the audience. Thanks for the post
tizfrreecharm placing choir amongst the audience only works if the stage is designed in such a way that the sound is allowed to bounce properly to all places. Otherwise, it sounds like shit.
Magistrale interprétation de cette version chœur et orchestre. D'emblée, la liturgie dramatique sombre, puissante, de la lutte du peuple opprimé et ensuite et enfin la gloire solennelle, pure, de la liberté conquise. Magnifique. Que la liberté est belle et fragile.
Have played this with The Lahti symphony orchestra for a thousand people as The second trumpet If i remember correctly. I was 18. One of my prouder moments In Life. There is just something about this piece that resonates with every Finn Even The younger generation like me. I remember The war stories i've heard of both of My great grandfathers and think of how close we came to losing everything and how much we Lost in order to regain.
Какая чудесная пьеса, написанная чудесным композитором в исполнении чудесного оркестра под управлением чудесного дирижера. Чудо творения, выраженное в 8:42 минутах вашей чудесной жизни
Lhargy or RU-vid must eliminate the frequent, brief stops marring this authentic, if not extraordinary, performance of a brilliant composition by the pre-eminent composer.
