I cannot express how impressed I am by this first version. I presume most current users will do the heavy lifting on their desktop machine and use this for on-the-spot inspiration and repairs, while the kids will master it in days. And no charge to existing users! I cant wait for v2 with Panorama - and Repeat... But so what? This is freakin' AWESOME! Thanks, folks.
Why does this look like Avid has done the same mistake they did with the desktop version. They've got programmers and composers, but failed to get decent interface designers. It looks like it will still be a matter of spending an hour finding one specific button just, instead of actually writing.
So far, I am very excited about using this app. Granted, I am primarily using it to make edits to a score I've already created in desktop... But as a transcriptionist, being able to edit my Sibelius files on my iPad directly is much more efficient than marking up pdf and then going back to my desktop to make the edits.
Great review guys. I learned a few new things too, and it's extremely well set up and structured. The app itself is a very promising first version, that obviously still has its flaws, as many commenters have pointed out. But it already serves as a useful addition to the desktop version. looking forward to future releases!
Wow, first time hearing about this. It's got a long way to go, but useability is already halfway decent. I'd love full keyboard functionality like on the desktop experience and Apple Pencil could use some work; I don't think the tilt mechanic is the way to go.
Does someone know how to select how many bars in each line? I don’t know how else to explain this, I like to have Jazz Standards arranged and written with 4 bars on each line, for harmonic rhythm purposes. In desktop sibelius I used to click on the end bar line and just press enter and the rest of the bars would go down to the next line, doesn’t work here though.
How do you adjust spacing between lines of music / systems? For example making extra space between line 2 and 3 because you want space for CHORUS text in lead sheet. Does the free version allow staff spacing adjustments? Can’t figure it out thanks!
I’m kind of an old-school simpleton who just started with Sibelius this week. The main thing I want to do for now is just be able to improvise on my Roland FP 30X digital piano and have Sibelius correctly transcribe what I just played. I’ve been able to figure out Bluetooth and how to get Sibelius to transcribe from my iPad’s microphone, but the transcription is incorrect. For one thing, Sibelius is not recognizing when I play a shuffle/triplets and instead combines the notes together as one quarter note. Can you direct me to a tutorial video on how to get Sibelius to correctly transcribe music from a digital piano using Bluetooth midi? Thanks
I was so excited but got disappointed really fast. After using Sibelius for windows and mac for almost 20 years(Sibelius Ultimate subscription for 4 years) …. You get this minimalist and non user-friendly interface. By the way… there isn’t any way to create a pickup bar measure at the start… (this is a recent discovery in the new Sibelius for ipad). I hate to say that even StaffPad is easier to use…
nice to see, but pretty restricted, for example - no playback tempo change and import midi and, and……. but we will see how this will evolve and the subscription model is unacceptable to me :-((
The three finger gestures for cut copy and paste are far too time consuming and cumbersome. If you don’t do them perfectly all you do is zoom in and out. They could’ve developed a far superior system than that
Instead of working on real needed software improvements for composers....(new plugins, contemporary music input, new sound libraries and external software connections, automatic layouts, fine engraving modes, paging options...etc....)
