I recently had to have my car towed (VW New Beetle) and while talking to the tow driver he said he couldn't remember the last time he towed a Mazda. That clinched it it for me! Within a month I got a 2024 Mazda cx5 turbo signature. Old school? Yes, and I'm extra happy for it!! Oil dip stick: check! Spare tire: check, individual controls for HVAC (not touch screen!): check! etc. There's a reason it's still there and not discontinued!
I went from a mustang GT to my 2024 Mazda cx5 turbo premium. Best car I’ve owned to date. I’m getting older now and I just appreciate the smooth ride and the amazing reliability. Yet I’m still spending less on gas than I did on my mustang gt. Cheers
I have a 2020 CX-30 with about 89,000 miles on it. Aside from the usual oil, filter, and tire rotations, I've had no other expenses, and there's never been a single problem with it. I get about 34 mpg and do mostly highway driving. I had previously been a Honda person, but Mazda was one of the few automakers that had not gone to the CVT. Mine is the front wheel drive (I have no need for all-wheel), the "Select" model. The performance is fantastic, and I've never been in a situation where it disappointed me. If I were to buy a new one, I might move up to the CX-5, although I don't need anything larger. I would never go with the turbo, simply because the base model engine has all the performance a person could want, and the turbo would not last as long as just the regular 4-cylinder.
We have CX5 GT (Canada) and CX30 GS , CX30 has better driving dynamics , gets to speed quicker , some features and cabin elements are nicely updated in CX30 , CX5 has higher sitting position. very comfortable and amazingly quiet and obviously great handling and all that. CX30 cons are small gas tank, small cabin , Passenger seat is very low. All Mazda I think have one common cons and it is 6 speed transmission, it is smooth and relatively quick however it miss at least 2 gears . overall both are great purchase in their segment. Mazda products are absolutely premium and are not in the segment of Hondas or Toyotas .
One thing overlooked here is the fuel tank size, unless I missed it. The CX-5 has a 15.3 gallon tank while the CX-30 only has a 12.7 gallon tank. 413 vs 381 mile highway range assuming the epa ratings are accurate. If it weren't for that, I personally probably favor the cx-30 if I didn't need the space of the cx-5.
How often do you need to drive 400+ miles without stopping once? The CX-30 is not an electric car, filling the tank would take less than 5 minutes if you are in a hurry.
@@glurp1erI’m driving 400 miles almost each weekend - 200miles one side and back on Subaru Crosstrek. Refuel at one place every time, if drive on cx-30 have to refuel at unpredictable place every time, a bit uncomfortable.
Not only is the CX-5 more expensive at purchase, it's also more expensive to use (fuel consumption) and to keep (more weight/CO2 = higher taxes in a lot of places). For me the CX-30 was the perfect middle ground between the Mazda 3 and the CX-5.
I love my 2023 CX-5 and had a 2016 before that. The cx-30 is nice if you don’t use the back seats. There’s no room and the cargo space is too small. Depends on what you need.
The Mazda 3 is definitively better than the CX-30. If you need more space, then get the CX-5. Otherwise, the 3 is better than the CX-30 on all aspects, while interior space is very similar
@@catringo5165 What place would require you to have a higher ground clearance? You won't go in the backcountry with a CX-30 either. Do you mean snow? I live in Saguenay which is Canada's snowiest city and I have zero problem with my Mazda 3, even to go skiing in the mountains.
@@PatG-xd8qn Sure you can. I've taken my cx-30 camping several times and it works great on trails/bumpy roads. I havent used it in snow so I can't comment on that but glad your 3 works well in it. Ground clearance may not be THAT important in Canada/US but I travel for work and having higher clearance definitely helps in Latin American/African countries. Depends on where you are/where you go
Thank you guys so much, because of your comparison between Infiniti QX60 and Acura MDX, We brought our QX60 today.. I was having a hard time choosing. Thanks 🙏🏼
I will consider a Mazda when they start offering hybrids in addition to ICE. Also, always think on your comparisons, you have a very conventional US/Midwest attitude of larger or more powerful is better and award points. That, to me, is a very personal preference and should be pointed out, but, many people would add points for smaller, better fuel economy cars than the larger ones. Do enjoy your reviews!
The Mazda CX-30 is highly underrated and overlooked for its small interior; otherwise it is exactly the same as the CX-5 as far as driving dynamics, engine, and comfort; except for interior size and price. I've test driven both, and honestly I felt that the driving dynamics are quite similar between both. The CX-30 is better on gas, too! it is also a perfect city car, fun to drive, comfortable, and a breeze to park!
@@newton2105 With the name you have, you should know that weight and the location of the center of gravity are very important when trying to understand if a vehicle handles better than another. My father has a 2023 CX-5 and I have a 2021 Mazda 3, and my Mazda 3 definitively has far better handling than the CX-5 even though it has a torsion beam. This is quite logic since we're comparing a small hatchback with a low center of gravity with a SUV with a much higher weight and center of gravity...
Thanks for an interesting comparison. Back in 2018, I owned a 2007 Mazda 6i liftback and my wife had a 2015 CX-5 GT. I wanted to get a Mazda CUV and sit a little higher. I was hoping Mazda would bring the CX-4 from China to the USA, I'd trade my 6 for it. However, when the 2019 CX-5 Signature, w/ the turbo, came out , I traded my 6 for it. If the CX-30 was available then I might have bought it. Now, I'm happy that glad I choose the larger CX-5 Signature now. I really wish however the terra cotta leather and/or 2 tone interior trim was available in more models, or the dark brown leather in the CX-5 Signature was a lighter shade of brown. Thanks, again.
@@roberthouston3809 it’s just a fun drive. I love the interior, the size and the fun factor. It’s hard to explain but the vehicle is oozing with character. I can’t remember what trim I got but it’s the most loaded vehicle I’ve ever driven as far as tech ( I let my wife go crazy with all that) and it’s just been the perfect SUV for me. The only drawbacks are small trunk space compared to full size SUV and smaller gas tank than my older vehicle.
@@rutgershouses how the hell are you going to tell a random person on RU-vid they made a wrong choice on a vehicle without knowing my finances or availability where I live? Blow me
Sorry, many of the features you consider advantages, or disadvantages, are a matter of taste or frivolourls. Examples include the cladding on the CX- 30. and the absence of towing and seating ventilation. We chose our CX-30 precisely because of the contrasted cladding, which we found far more attractive. Our CX-30 is the 2023 model and we do have folding mirrors and HUD display as well as many of the other options on the CX -5. I should note rgat we are in Europe, Belgium to be precise. As for the towing and seating ventilation, we do not need or want either of these features. So it is really a question of personal preference and taste.
Are you sure terracotta is leatherette and not leather? Mazda website says it’s leather terracotta and faux suede black inserts. Technically black inserts are type of alcantara suede.
I love mazdas! The big issue with me between these two is the cupholder locations. The cx30 has them before the stick and the cx 5 after. I prefer after if not i would choose cx30
Too bad my parking stalls won't accommodate the width of the CX5 and I like the higher ground clearance of the CX 30. You negatives of the CX 30 are my positives. Thanks.
Note the CX-5 has a heated windshield for ice while the CX-30 does not. Look and find slightly used 2023 CX-5s. You can find a Premium Plus with 3000 miles on it for about 30,000. Much less than the new 2024s which go for about 39,500 and the only thing you lose is the touchscreen with Android Auto/Apple Carplay and you need to be wired to use the technology. Otherwise the 2023 CX-5 is identical to 2024.
I wish cx-5’s engine had at least 200hp as it is a bigger suv than cx-30. And again if you go for cx-30 premium, you would get power lift gate and bose sound system like premium cx-5
Just my 2 cents. To me it's really all about how much space you need. Being single, I can't even remember the last time that I had a passenger in the back seat. I just want a car that is fun to drive. I don't need all the fancy bells and whistles. I will be buying a cx-30 carbon turbo at the end of this year.
Don’t be fooled by the looks. CX-30 is a way smaller than CX-5. You will feel this even more once you are inside. I’m telling this by experience. It is a very capable and high build quality car, though. CX-30 is designed for a different market segment - singles and couples. And this segment loves this car and will give 5/5 in reviews. Hence, don’t be fooled by the reviews as they don’t tell which market segment rated that. So, if you try to fit in more than two people in this CX-30, don’t bother, just move on to CX-5 or newer (and expensive 😉) CX-60.
@@lilzuplada1564 Then get a Mazda 3 hatchback. It has about the same interior space as the CX-30, but consumes less fuel and is far more fun to drive And the 3 is manufactured in Japan while the CX-30 is built in Mexico
I'll consider a Mazda for my next car since I enjoy driving and I refuse to consider anything with a CVT or dual clutch...only problem is my 4Runner will probably outlive me, so it's hard to justify. If they come out with a hybrid about the same price and gets 45 mph sign me up.
I have a 2024 cx-5 turbo premium. I test drove base model with no turbo and I went with the turbo. If you don’t mind spending a bit more on gas I’d go with turbo . It’s more zippy if you drive on the express way alot. Turbo has about 260hp compared to the base which has I believe 190 hp
I got the CX-30 without turbo. Honestly it's already powerful enough to get plenty of tickets if you're not careful, so in my opinion the turbo is just a way to burn more money.
@@glurp1eri also own 2024 cx-30 2.5 non-turbo. I believe it has enough power for a smaller suv. I wish they add some hp to the non-turbo cx-5 to at least 200. Though cx-5 is still desirable to drive
The Turbo is worth it if you like to stomp on it once in a while and have passing power. I'm a motorcycle guy and the turbo was a must for me when getting a CX5. It is honestly one of the most fun cars I've driven compared to my old Taurus, focus, and jeep wranglers. Tbf its not a sports car, but it's definitely a fun little family vehicle that isn't a minivan.
Both are amazing cars, but different segments. It's kind of obvious the CX-5 excels in most of things because it costs additional $5k. So in the same way you chose one segment or the other, you would chose the cx30 or the cx5. If you have enough money and your needs are bigger then cx5 is the choice.
I drove the CX-30 and was a little bothered by how much the view was like out the rear/side windows. It’s probably fine for a casual commuter, but if you drive in a traffic that is at all hectic it might start to feel claustrophobic
Bose sucks Don't really care for your point evaluations, they're a little ridiculous. They are BOTH Great SUVs! Don't need a turbo, not racing anymore! Both Mazdas are Beautiful, Mazda knows how to make some Beautiful vehicles!
I tested both Mazda 3 and CX-30. If you don't have kids and don't need a big trunk, the Mazda 3 is more fun to drive, cheaper, with better fuel economy. In the end I got the CX-30 because I need to be able to bring the family along on vacation from time to time.
CX-5 is a Japanese and not a German Vehicle. 12.58mins in the video, it was mentioned to be a German vehicle. That clarified it’s CX-5 for me over its smaller sibling 😊
Mazda needs to up their game on the infotainment displays, they are looking outdated now and so much smaller compared to other cars not to mention out of reach! I wish they would do at least a 13+ inch display instead of a little rectangle screen.
What do you need a huge screen for? The "little screen" is already enough to simultaneous display 2 apps with Android auto. Anyway, keep your eyes on the road ;-)
More like Mazda 3 and CX-30. I tested both. The Mazda 3 is the better car, but if you have a family and/or need a usable trunk then the CX-30 is better. I got the CX-30 for those reasons.
How many times after 10 years do I have to hear about Mazda “moving upmarket”?? Wouldn’t upmarket include modern powertrains with actual hybrids and modern infotechs with touchscreens? Stop drinking their koolaid
"Modern" power trains as in - most car brands now have shoddy CVTs? These Mazdas still some of the only brands that have naturally aspirated 4cyl. real geared autos..much more reliable and last much longer than all the other CVT junk out there...
I feel like if you’re poor asf and that OFs money ain’t dropping or your boo won’t buy you a Bimmer these are good cars. And can you tell us about seat width and comfort??? Y’all need to cater to us phat booty chocolate queens too fam!!!!
if you are over 6 feet tall then your head will touch the roof of cx-30 in the driver seat, thats with the seat all the way down, dont even bother considering it, i have no idea what they were thinking of selling that vehicle in US market, maybe it works in Japan but not here.
That's clearly not true. I'm 6 foot and I own a 2021 Mazda 3 hatchback and I'm very comfortable in it. If I can fit in the 3, why would my head touch the roof in the CX-30?
