Has anyone here heard Glenn Tipton “Baptism of Fire” instrumental? It’s a lot like the Painkiller solo only a whole song and it’s different, don’t get me wrong but the sweeping and techniques are all there. It’s from his solo album of the same name. I’m on the same page as you guys. Give that a listen to if you have not heard it it’s Glenn at his peak. I love the guy. Miss him but he’s very present in the new album!!!!
@@jacquesroux7362 not easy but If I had to pick one it would be hard lines and sunken cheeks. I was in high school in the mid ninety's. The only band on the planet was Pantera.
if you look at the tab and listen closely, the first part of the solo ends with a pantera domination solo lick E 19-20-17-19---17------------- B -------------------20---19-20-17
Tornado of Souls is the greatest guitar solo of all time. it's somehow aggressive and beautiful at the same time. It's just like wathcing a movie telling you a story, from building up to climax and finally perfect ending
It’s definitely a fantastic solo, but if the criteria is “most famous” then sadly at the gates probably doesn’t make the cut. They’re well known, but not THAT well known.
JP's Thunder Road song is sooo underrated... even by the band itself, I think It was meant to be the closing song for the Ram It Down album instead of Monsters of Rock but it's such an incredibly build up leading to an insane solo, I love it ! I think it was KK who played it. Painkiller remains my all-time favorite tho (hence my nickname).
As a drummer I gotta say that Maiden do have some really awesome solos in the 80s, Powerslave, Rime of the Ancient Mariner and Seventh Son probaby are some of my favorite solos ever.
@@adammesic Hard, hard disagree. As much as I love both bands, I'm not sure either has a single solo that would sneak into the top 5 on Rust in Peace, never mind the rest of Megadeth's discog.
Kissing the Shadows gave me chills. When I was a kid, I'd replay the solo over and over again. 15 years later I can still close my eyes and find that same feeling, buried in my chest. Rest in peace Alexi 🙏
@@johannestetzelivonrosador7317 Kirk’s final solo in Face to Black is my #1 personally. It’s just so beautiful, melodic, and emotional. It feels like the person in the song is transcending to whatever world lies ahead of us after death
Sorry, iron maiden is my favourite band (and alexander the great is their best solo in my opinion), but the best solos are dimebag darrell's ones, especially floods: there's a feeling in that song and in that solo that i've never found in any other one
@@jackbeckett2838 Yeah windrider, little dreamer, treacherous gods and hero in a dream are amazing. I think ensiferum is probably the band with the highest ratio of good to bad songs that i know of
I can't get enough of the Fermented Offal Discharge solo! Say what you want about Necrophagist as a whole being mindless wankery or not, but Muhammed was undeniably a master of writing guitar solos.
Necrophagist was the most "mindful" technical band, every piece of their music absolutely made sense and had something to say, nowhere else in traditional metal will you find a more refined, taken to absolute maximum guitar playing and songwriting, where every aspect of it is top tier good; Technicality? Check. Melodic sense? Check. Variation of textures, moods and tempos? Check. Nods to classical music? Check. Never being predictable yet always managing to stay on the narrow and treacherous path of coming up with parts that make sense and paint an overarching picture? Check. Its all there.
@@Henry14arsenal2007these exact words. In my opinion Necrophagist set the bar for technichal death metal and still to this day very few bands have gotten close to it
My favourite Opeth solo is probably the extended solo from A Fair Judgement, so much good phrasing and it plays around with the motifs of the song and the main riff really well
I don't play guitar, but they are most likely amazing. Can you do another speed run by any chance? Maybe something like "Can I make a TOOL song in 10 minutes?!"
I’ll probably be in the minority here since Extreme is so difficult to classify, but I will call them a metal band. For their most iconic solo, it would be for Get The Funk Out from their second album, still iconic to this day. That and Mr. Crowley are my favorite solos of all time.
I agree with this list but my personal favourate Megadeths Tornado of Souls solo remains very iconic and still very fresh. Ik there are solos that are harder and more unique but for me that solo is perfection. Great video once again!!! I was feeling down so this made my mood❤❤❤❤
You completely ignored the ending solo of War Pigs. That’s the best part of the entire song. The end solo is the best solo in the song. It’s like Fade to Black. Whenever someone talks about the Fade to Black solo, they’re not talking about the beginning solo, or the small middle solo, they’re talking about the end solo
Testament isn't my favorite band, but I think the solo from Trails of Tears is the most melodic and badass solo I've ever heard. Also Alterbridge Blackbird solo is pretty iconic as well
Fermented Offal Discharge is absolutely breathtaking - Muhammed has such incredible compositional taste and vision. Thanks for putting it on this list. S tier for me.
Thank you so much for the video! It wasn't only fun as is but really gave me an appreciation for bands I don't normally listen to because I don't enjoy the type of vocals. It's really great to get to check the songs out to at least fully listen to the solos!
Adrian Smith’s solo in Stranger in a strange land is criminally underrated! Not very shreddy but a melodic, well-structured and well-performed bluesy solo, which I love! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-WJgWWWKPKuA.htmlsi=tCfKWbG3D_jyY9WT 3:19 Edit: Also, this following cover of Painkiller has a magnificent take on the guitar solos. I love Glenn Tipton but this fellow Swede sure can shred: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6-WCfhd_q3s.htmlsi=XwBHb6qb-l190woi
For me the best metal solo of all time is by the Riffmaster himself on Heaven and Hell's album "The Devil You Know" from 2009 on the track "Rock 'n Roll Angel". Starts at 2:59 for the interested.
Thanks for putting Randy at the top cause to my ears the "afterbirth"solo (even tho you featured the iconic outro)in Mr. Crowley is my all-time favorite solo cause since 19-fuckin-80 I STILL GET CHILLS DOWN MY SPINE EVERY SINGLE TIME I HEAR IT. NO other solo of the thousands I've heard affects me that way. Randy was beyond special to me. He is my personal g.o.a.t.
'Rock you like a hurricane' ( Matthias Jabs) 'Last in line' (Vivian Campbell) 'Number of the Beast' ( Murray & Smith)'Welcome Home' ( Pete Blakk) 'Sins of Omission' (Alex Skolnick). These are a few of my favs
Savatage - Edge of thorns or Legions. Too bad they were never as famous as the bands mentioned here. Criss Oliva was one hell of a guitarist. Great content mate, thanks \m/
Rocky George. Totally underrated from band Suicidal Tendencies. From the song How Will I Laugh Tomorrow When I Can't Even Smile Today. Its a long original heartfelt shredding solo that just rocks.
Bout time you started teaching online. You’re one of the best guitarists I follow. Psychosocial solo fits the song really well. I was impressed to hear it the first time. I did not realize he was playing like that.
One of the best guitar solos I have ever heard is voodoo by ywngwie malmsteen. Its so chaotic and well articulated and the way it goes from shredding speed bursts into crazy bends is amazing
Check out the bloodpack version when the had a funny flute thing in the beginning and Kerry's alternate solo he replaced after. It's a rare promo cd but I got it for you plus Aggressive Perfector
when i was a young boy i used to think 'justice' sounded thin and trashy like you. but now as a mature grown up it is something that has become an acquired taste and i have truly come to appreciate its iconic sound. it stands alone in history of metal and has made its mark.
@@hamishmchamish Both are perfection. I could not pick one over the other but I am a huge fan of V. Campbel. He just made these memorable solos like it was nothing.
Are we going for more iconic or better solo? I feel like if I can hum all of the notes to a solo the phrasing is god tier, which is how I personally feel about psychosocial and Jim Roots solos in general
Death is nothing but perfection... My favorite solo is on Killing Spree. Just fits the song perfectly. Also the solo on Spiritual Healing is mind blowing.
Based for pointing out how the Octavarium solo is perfect. It's not fast or flashy, but it's dripping with feeling and really makes the most of the chord progression it's built around. I have similar feelings about the Goodnight Kiss solo too, that's a masterclass in how you tell a story with a guitar solo.
Wish you chose domination instead of walk, it just feels more structured but it has that insane build into that chunky breakdown so it isn’t lacking in feel
I used to daydream being able to play the "kissing the shadows" solo back in high school. 12 years of playing guitar later.. well I still can't play it for shit, but I can still daydream.
It's beautiful, up with solos of Insurrection, And Sadness Will Sear, Into the Mouth of Hell We March, and Torn Between Scylla and Charybdis. Trivium have surpassed most of their inspirations.
In Flames - December flower Avenged Sevenfold - Sidewinder Megadeth - Lucretia Sentenced - Nepenthe The Black Dahlia Murder - Kings of the nightworld Pantera - The Sleep
Fermented offal discharge actually made me cry a few times in my life. It's absolutely incredible and beautiful in my opinion. Probably my favorite solo of all time.
He made multiple of the best solos in metal. Ride the Lightning, Fade to Black, the Unforgiven, Welcome Home Sanitarium, One, and many more solos. He used to be pretty great at writing solos. It’s a damn shame that he’s become lazier and lazier over the years.
Symphony X - sea of lies Winter sun - winter madness Children of bodom - kissing the shadow Slayer - angel of death Iron maiden - the trooper Slipknot - psychosocial Death - crystal mountain Black Sabbath - war pigs Dio - holy diver Ozzy - Mr crowley Avenged sevenfold - afterlife Necrophagist - fermented offal discharge Judas priest - painkiller Dragonforce - Through the fire and flames Megadeth - tornado of souls Yngwie malmsteen - rising force Nevermore - the river dragon Metallica - one Pantera - walk Dream theater - under a glass moon
I stopped watching when I saw that the solo selected for Pantera was for "Walk". Specially when you can pick one of the following: -Cemetary Gates -Floods -10´s -Avoid the light Huge miss.
Not sure what makes a solo "iconic". But if I had to pick 3 solos that I absolutely love, I'd pick: 3. Nevermore - Engines of Hate (I just love Jeff's playing and I think that's one of his best solos) 2. Helloween - Giants (great melodic twin guitar solo from one of their greatest songs that is often overlooked because it's on an overall weaker album) 1. Rage - Dies Irae (a shreddy solo that squeals and sings and weeps on top of all the shred. Just great)
Umm... before even watching this through....geez...what a set to think about. Weirdly, I was thinking of Scorpions - Blackout, then right after with Can't Live Without You. But anyhoo....
Yeahhh it was fun with all those bradley fansssss Lol all those jokes with beans like the bean water. You should definitity do more live streams and post those live streams! We love you legendary king of beans🤘
You should check out Death’s Trapped in a Corner solo The outro solos from The Philosopher (watch Gene Hoglan’s drum play through so the fade out doesn’t diminish it) and Without Judgement
Great video next time it wobe great doing one with your personal favorites and or another one with the objective best solos including deathmetal and deathcore solos
Kissing the Shadows will always be such an amazing solo, but honestly that riff under the keyboard section is just so much fun its my favorite part of the song
