If you want to speed it more, get yourself a section of railroad rail.set it on its side and set the scicle bar on the edge of the bottom. Take 2 quick clamps and clamp one of the knives to the bottom of the rail, then ,same on the other end. Now you can knock off about 10 a minute. Our old man gave that job to me and my brother when we were 8&10

Could I be doing something wrong? Rivets would smash square but not break off. Is the rivet on the top of the vice or IN the vice? Update. Got it. Bigger hammer.

Will that work for a troy bilt walk behind sickle bar mower? That looks like a time saver, for sure.

Hmmmm, too bad there wasn't an old timer around you because we knew how to do it the easy way. We also know to use a big Ball Peen hammer { not claw hammer for carpenter work } that makes quick work of knocking worn sections off. The sections should face you so the bar is supported by the stronger, stable vice base instead of vise jaw. You then don't fiddle with jaw adjustment. Done correctly it's about 3 blows of hammer, slide to next section and repeat. Then use a small ball peen hammer and straight punch to knocked rivets out. The ball of the ball peen hammer is then used to peen rivet tight on section. Using a sickle mower is a lost art same as mold-board plows. As a kid in the 60's all that was used was sickle mowers that are fast, reliable and used little h.p. but same as many things MUST be adjusted correctly, used correctly and worn parts replaced.
