Kym (73) in Darwin, Australia, nearing the end of my 20 ten minute radio-therapy sessions for prostate cancer. Keep your hydration up, during your treatment course. Watch-out in the second and third weeks, for severe diarrhoea and resultant dehydration and a low blood sugar level. Have some cookies or a meal, plus a tea or large glass of water, after each session. That way, you’ll restore your hydration and blood-sugar level - and avoid dehydration and shock, which I had in the afternoon of day 8, causing a trip to my local hospital, with 2 days in the Emergency Dept on a saline drip.

Five years ago that was not true. The latter stages of the 20 session treatment were painful combined with incessant urge to urinate every thirty ,minutes or so made the last ten days of the treatment really difficult and it every once of my won’t power to continue. It has been worth it but alone it is really difficult.

Yes, I recently completed 20 rounds of radiation. The most difficult part was being there at the same time everyday, 5 days a week. Also, emptying out your bowels just before treatment can be a hassle. And of course filling you bladder with water maybe about 30 minutes prior.

@frankwoods4532 My radiation treatment didn't keep,, PSA dropped to 0.19 but in less than 9 months it skyrocketed to 4.25. I'm hearing a lot of different reasons 😕 and none of them are good. Schedule for a PMSA PET SCAN,next week. The regular skeleton imaging scan and soft tissue CT scan didn't show anything 😮

Was there any lingering or permanent side effects like leakage or bowel trouble after treatment ??

@dalebishop5936 so far none that are noticeable, however they informed me prior that those side effects you spoke can happen years after treatment. I'm coming up on a year and so far so good. My PSA has began to raise slightly, my oncologist and urologist said they will keep a close eye on it, and we hoping this is just a bump/bounce and it will go down right after it peaks

Mu psa has begun to trend downward. Below a 4 now. We still need to stay on top of this.😮

The title was Side Effects with Radiation Therapy for Prostate Cancer and he didn't really mention Urinary problems, rectal bleeding, burning or any other problems. This seems like a misleading video. And all treatments are done by technicians, not doctors.
