Do you ever get water trapped in this bottle form? How do you deal with that?
@MatthewKellyPottery
@MatthewKellyPottery 2 года назад
I get all of the water out before closing it in and make sure I don’t add much to the inside after that.

I would love to take a class from you. Ever come to the Tampa or St Pete area?

I wish my hands and forearms were your size. Everything tall I pull has to be 4" diameter minimum. HAHA

My (hobby potter) average cycle time from throwing a pot to finished piece is probably about three weeks and that is for maybe 20 pots. If I had to make hundreds of pots to fill a wood kiln by the time I was done throwing I would have forgotten what my intent was for the first piece or my interest would have changed to the point I was no longer interested in that first piece. So, now that you have thrown the first piece how long is it going to take you to make and glaze the rest of the pots to fill your kiln? After several years of making pottery I still find it hard to wait a day for the electric kiln to cool down before I can see the results. If I had to wait 3 days or a week for a large wood fired kiln to cool I would be a blathering idiot (well, maybe I already am).

I usually spend 6 weeks make pots for a wood kiln then add loading and firing. These pieces won’t be finished until mid November.

Thankfully I have a decent memory and inspiration to keep in mind what I plan to do with pieces. Sometimes I forget though.

Seems that side firing effect is kind of unique to wood/salt firing. I've heard of it being done in gas, but as I understand it's a bit more contrived.
@MatthewKellyPottery

Yea it’s mainly don’t in wood firing even without salt

That’s a really beautiful piece and commemorating your values and memories with things that may seem subtle may be all the more powerful for their private and personal significance. Personal significance and value adds something to any piece. I think that often when we go in to pick a piece of art we are looking for what speaks to us. What the artists makes is always the start of a conversation that can reach across time and space without words.
