Being progressive is key when developing our horse's skills. Teaching him exercises that sometimes seem trivial (but they are not and you will see it in the video) requires knowledge of the technique but above all of the psychology and learning of the horse.
Teaching the horse to walk sideways on an object such as a barrier placed on the ground helps to make him confident with naturally unusual scenarios and to make him acquire new skills such as coordination of the hindquarters and the correct proprioception of them. It also allows us to give a purpose to our requests. We become more understandable to the horse because what we do makes sense to him too.
