Aaahhhhh all the adorable Monocats again!! Also, thanks for the quick backstory at the start! Lovely to see that the EUC companies are stepping up their own Sidepad quality after seeing how their customers care for it! Even if it's still a bit of a climb till the quality is on par^^
Kate thanks again for helping me unbox my first EUC a few weeks ago! I didnt realize that was you until afterwards, I had seen your videos before! Hope your stay in Vancouver has been tremendous. Wish you the best and keep up the awesome content!
Good video with helpful information and advice. My setup: Current - RS with Clark Pads (one piece) and Clark Pedals and Clark bumpers. I have a V12HT on the way and for that also on the way are NyloNove Pedals and Grizzla Flow Compact Pads. I have on order a Sherman-S and on the way for that are Grizzla Flow Large pads, I'll likely order NyloNove pedals for the Sherman-S once they become available.
Great video! Well narrated as well! I'd love to get a set of Grizzlas or Nylonove Kinetix but shipping to the states makes them ridiculously expensive.
Cool video. I have a V11 and what I use as a side pad is definitely not the norm. I saw someone online take a seat cushion, for people that sits for long periods, and put it through the handle of the V11 so it hangs on both sides. It looked good to me so I bought the same thing. I put it on my EUC and it has been working well for me. It was weird at first because it does make the EUC a lot thicker but I like how soft it is and I don't have glue anything to my EUC.
Thanks for sharing that! That’s a very creative solution, especially for the V11 it’s difficult to find good sidepads! Does the seat cushion have a specific name? I’d love to look more I to that!
Awesome video as always :) I ride S18 and I’m thinking of making custom side pads to feel more locked in, especially going down hill. I’d love to see you make some - come on people hit that like button!
Kuji pads deserve IMHO a separate category, because they are not only a cushion to increase comfort but significantly improve control and safety _without impeding leg mobility_ which makes them unique. They can be made considerably smaller than Kujis original design (as the lower leg right above the ankle doesn't move that much anyway). I can hardly imagine to live without them anymore.
great video! from my experience one piece pads are the best, i have been in love with the Torque Pads from the beginning, i think taht Torque Pads are the best pads. I appreciate their endurance, they saved my vehicle more than once during an accident. comfort, ergonomics and versatility, both for the street and for jumping. Everyone has different preferences, I can recommend Torque Pads to everyone.
those so-called russian pads (also known as "Alexa ao" pads, since she came up with them) double as small bags to hold small stuff in and are designed so that a user could change the pad thickness and softness with different inserts. Very expensive.
yeaaaay you're back!!! you've been missed Kate!! Hope the studies are going well with you. really nice video and awesome to see the range of options out there, Many thanks for sharing and wb :)
Let's just not forget how much it sucks... for them to be as pricey as they are! If only these pads were cheaper... Currently riding a V8F with a bicycle helmet and no side pads. Unfortunately, accumulating all of the material is too expensive. :(
That is the best video I have seen on side pads. Strangely, no one seems to have made an informative, in depth video on this subject, that we are all eventually interested in. I have actually see a couple of videos where the person had the pads fitted backwards, or even upside down. The explanation of how to fit them correctly is essential. Very well explained, clear and concise. Many thanks. 👍
The 16X a nice wheel, I ride mine a lot. I put those Begode supplied side pads on my 16X. The Grizzla pads look really good but since I have a 3D Printer I 'm going to try to print something similar in TPU for my Master and see if that works out.
I have Inmotion V12 power pads/jump pads. It fits perfectly to my V12 and I really love it. V12 is completelly different (and much better) wheel. It locks my feet pretty well and has 2 pieces just like grizzla. These Inmotion pads are also quite cheap
Very comprehensive and informative as always! This video is very timely as there are so many more pads on the market since I bought my Clark pads a couple of years ago. I am currently torn between the Kinetic pads and the Grizzla pads. I like to position my pads low and am not sure that I would be able to close my pedals with Grizzla pads. This is important to me because I often push my wheel through crowded places. For this reason, I am thinking that Kinetic pads with NyloNove pedals might be a better option for me.
I first cut yogablocks and wrap them in duct tap. But they don't flex. Later I bought 3d printed pads from a Belgium guy. The pads work fantastic for my Sherman. For my Extreme Bull X-Men HT, I bought German twisting jump blocks. I bought the biggest size, but now they are to big for my X-Men. For my S22 they are wonderful. I will buy smaller jump blocks for the X-Men. I am still looking for pads for my Abrams. I have an idea which pads to get.
I wonder how long the velcro will hold strength. Like after so long riding in various conditions, and repeated switching or pads or rearranging. It seems like you're fairly confident and happy with them though.
I have self-made ghetto pads (patent in pending lmao), but the main problem is that they are seperate pieces and they don't have a large area at the bottom so they aren't super robust. Main issue with pretty much all pads: Too bloody expensive for what you get. It's just slightly molded yoga block yet costs 80€+?!!?!?!
i 3d printed the kinetic type (the one with 5 parts on each side) for my first pads. these were printed in PLA, so are going to be rather hard than the normal squishy plastic. I am curious how that will work, and how long they will last without breaking. After all, I am a brand new EUC rider. i've held off to get proper footwear with ankle support to ride with.
Thanks for this! Good rundown of the different pads. But how did you get the velcro to stick to your wheel? I also have a 16X and the velcro didn't stick to the wheel at all the first time I tried to stick it on.
I've got 4400 miles on my V11 and have never had sidepads. I've ridden a few that have them for a few minutes and it feels really dangerous and awkward to me. If you ever get in some sort of wreck and you can't get your feet out you are seriously going to injure yourself. I've seen a guy break his wrist because of this and he wasn't even going 5-7 MPH. He had to have surgery to repair it.
That’s definitely a good warning, to not have the side pads too tight, otherwise you might get stuck in them in an accident, thanks for bringing this up! So far for me, my sidepads helped me to prevent a lot of injuries, since they held me in place when I hit some unexpected potholes. :)
@@monocat.1011 That's interesting because in 4400 miles I've never had a crash. I think any advantage you might get isn't worth getting stuck with your feet to the sides if you ever fall. My V11 weighs 65 pounds. I can't even imagine what that would do to the bones in my leg if I fell and I was stuck to it.
Interesting video. I am a new rider, ive my v10f for a month. ive a problem with climbing hills, i weight 55kg, soo very light rider, and in a steep hill, from 17% or more, i have several kinds of hills where i ride, and, even if i speed a bit before climbing the wheel slowly decreases speed till i cant keep on it. I tried to put has much weight has i can on the front of it, it helps a lot but i cant make to the top.. Would a power pad help in this case or its the limit of the wheel?I dont hear any beeps. Thanks in advance
Try medium or soft mode, this gives more ability to lean into the hills when climbing. Power pads can sometimes be too much torque on the smaller wheels but the v10f is surprisingly powerful for its size. I ride a 16x without pads specifically because I don't want to over torque it and cut out... but I'm 300 pounds so that's not your issue. Pads are great but not necessary for riding under 20-25 mph. Good luck.
+1 for monocat-pads I'm saving up for Grizzla pads, but then I'm also saving up for nylonove pedals, and some other gear, so dunno which upgrade will go first. But the discount code is appreciated ^_^
What I normally do is, I don't buy the regular velcro, cause that won't have much of a grip. Instead, buy an industrial made velcro which has a higher grip, the "teeth" on these velcro are slightly bigger than your normal ones.
Definitely industrial made Velcro is a good choice! The Velcro that the grizzla pads come with stick very well so I never had a problem with that. But the V12 inMotion power pads fall off all the time, so adding something like super glue or trying the roughen up the surface of the pads can also help :)
I have spent hours this week trying to get my new pads in the right position and they're still not perfect. I think I make it worse every time I move them 😅
It also helps to just ride for a while with any setup, so you can get used to it. Sometimes I set up my pads horribly, but I’m too lazy to move them and than I get used to it after a couple of days 😅
