The is Chavant Clay or Plasteline is a wax based clay. NS is best for mold making. It isn't necessarily a firmer clay seeing it comes in soft/medium/hard. I have no clue why they just placed the Super Sculpey Firm with it. Hahaha

as a miniature painter and a concept artist, is amazing to see this process. it stills boggles my mind how can you achieve such realistic look with basically acrylic paint and inks. I struggle to make my miniatures look not cartoony and these guys can literally achieve any type of texture with only paint. Incredible job, i hope one day i can work on concepts for these guys.

Pretty late reply, but this is more like a "YMMV" thing IMO. Some people prefer to have the freedom of digital sculpting but some enjoy being able to touch and feel their sculptures. Plus, if you 3D print something you still need to clean it up as much as whatever you pull out of your mold lol.

well, he sucked at being a plumber, he run of from time to time, talking to shrooms with a task of saving a princess. This he can do for a living and can share with the world. But i must admit, after the recovery he had to go through in 2010, he looks better than ever, he is not hurting turtles anymore, he is not jumping up and down from the sewer systems anymore. He is basically a new and sober Mario now, and i am happy for him!

Prototypes are still one of my biggest gripes with collector culture. Having bought very large, very expensive pieces myself there's always this anxiety about what the production paintwork is going to be like. In the industry as it is now, multi-million pound/dollar companies like Sideshow really shouldn't be having the issue of the overseas production team having 'different paints' higher skilled people should be employed to replicate much closer to the original pitch. One in particular was the Prime 1 Geralt statue that I initially missed out on, living in England we rarely ever get these huge, expensive polystone pieces because very few can afford or are willing to pay because of the extortionate price rise with our 20% tax on luxury items. In the end I caved after finding one in Australia for much more than the usual retail price, with the cost of the model, extremely expensive delivery and customs and import tax on top it ended up costing me a little under £1000. Opening it up, I was impressed and did like what I had but compared to the prototype it was worlds apart in paint application, it was overall just lighter and too 'clean' looking with some paint details that are far too bright on the Chort head base which is supposed to be a wild, dangerous, dirty monster and just looks a little cartoonish with its green details in parts. The prototypes barely look like they justify the price tags they're asking in the UK and the production quality is absolutely unjustifiable for the price for the most part. That said production vs prototype quality has improved over the years but as such the price has increased. It can't afford to get higher but the quality in most cases could be pushed that little bit further for no real extra cost.

You know, I admire these artists for what they do. I am not going to knock them. But I will say there are plenty of artists out there with similar talent, and I am kind of more impressed with the darn Chinese, which are able to replicate these things almost perfectly and mass produce them so that they are attainable to the people that truly nerd out over this stuff. I can't imagine how much work went into creating the manufacturing process.
@redpianominiatures
@redpianominiatures 10 лет назад
JacobsDesigns2012 tmac20031 They really don't do a great job of replicating the original artist's paint work, which is why I've never given in to buying a sideshow statue, you can commission an actual artist like the guy who painted the original sculpt to paint your model and it would look 10x nicer. But basically, from what I've seen of production for items like this, they have tables of workers, they each get their own basket of parts and their reference material and they go to work.

Not the mold and cast part.........the cutting off of the arm, legs, head....etc.....that is the mystery.
