That's a great looking fan! Good find. Looks like it was hardly ever used! Back when I was an installer for the phone company, I used to have to work in older houses that often had only two-prong outlets. I'd always keep an old power bar with the ground knocked off in my bag so I could plug my laptop and stuff in. I know, very naughty but sometimes that's how it goes. You are right though, it's typically a bad idea to bypass the ground on devices that are *supposed* to be grounded. It always amazed me how many homes would have outlets upgraded to a three-prong plug, but still weren't grounded. For my old house, where I need three-prongs, GFCI plugs are an okay solution for outlets I can't get a ground to. Awesome stuff!
yeah, its scary.. i had the same setup when i was an installer too, however, i *only* used it when all three of my cordless drill batteries were dead, which didnt happen that often. i had it attached to a UPS that used dewalt batteries. custom made.
Super curb find, those fans blow like a hurricane, I like them a lot. They sell upwords of 40$ like at Sam's Club. Does the motor have oil ports? Mine also had the bad crappy switch. Got a better push button switch from ACE is the place. Had it for many years.
Good one Bobby. I wonder if the garbage guys take stuff like that home and fix it and re-sell it. It would be and extra source of income. Regards, Dave
Well now a messed up switch and thats all that was wrong with it wow go figure. And its a fairly new fan i would never have thrown out something like that either. Great fix Bobby thanks for sharing. Im out shoveling another foot of snow today catch you later.
Things are good. Life has been getting in the way with video making.. I'll try to get something going. Thanks for thinking of me. Take care and have a great day/weekend
I believe... it is "Jandorf 61004" model i could be wrong, however i THINK, that is the correct one, do a visual comparison first. www.ebay.com/itm/Jandorf-6-amps-Single-Pole-Rotary-Appliance-Switch-Black/274450167142?hash=item3fe6813566:g:UCkAAOSw8ilf-fNW
@@catherineoliveri4876 "IF" .. it turns out to be the incorrect part.. inform me, so I can make a note and reimburse you. just take side-by-side photos of the original AND the switch purchased., so that future viewers have more information. Thank you Catherine!
oh boy oh boy oh boyeee, part two! btw, did you see my workbench link? Was that the vise you mentioned? Sorry, but mine is a keeper, had it well over 30 years too, and got it used from a yard sale at that!
@@joshlovescotch i would check continuity on the switch that control low and medium. verify the switches work; see if they have failed. if not... it would be the low and medium winding are shot... its probable that its just the switches(they may also just need to be cleaned..)
@@joshlovescotch if the wires coming out of the capacitor are both black, that means polarity doesnt matter with that type of cap. some do... and will have one black and another of any color. do you have a part number??
Thank you that was very clear I however dropped the fan wanted to go in for myself just to reconnect some wires . but I'm stumped going to take it to a repairman hard to find one of these days my next step is to take it to Home Depot somebody probably know something about it
Good day fellow fan repairer. I recently found a honeywell HV-181. Cleaned it up and it's been working great..until tonight...it fell over in my garage. A blade jammed so it sat there for quite awhile until I found it. It is no longer working. I can pretty much fix anything but my electrical knowledge isn't great. Can you tell me what has possibly happened or where I could start on troubleshooting? Much appreciated.
@supyrow nope. When I first salvaged it, it hummed but didn't turn so I cleaned it up and it worked...now after this its got nothing, no sound etc. Another guy said there is a heat overload sensor or something, somewhere near the windings that can be replaced and that is likely what it is? Thoughts?
My fan, a Honeywell, just hums after plugging it up. I think something got wet. Not sure what happened but it turned on and started spinning and i heard a couple spits and unplugged it but when i plugged it back up it just hummed. Did the capacitor blow up or what? Where can i get the capacitor for it? Honeywell HV-180 Commercial Grade 299 dollars.
I found the same fan I'm my alleyway. Plugged it in and it didn't work. Plugged it back out and put the plug on the floor. I picked the plug back up and got a shock off the plug prongs. I'm now thinking of throwing it back in the alleyway.
Haven't seen a new video from you in a long time Bobby. Wanted to see if everything was alright with you in real life. I was sick with pneumonia for quite a while been fine now knock wood no more relapses. How are you?
Would you have a source for a replacement 3 wire transformer for a Kisco 3 speed hassock fan? The transformer is stamped GE 67G940 but a web search turns up nothing on that make and model transformer.
@@supyrow Hey Fella!, You are one of the good guys!, Keep yer pecker up!- that is an order!, Was always a pleasure to see one of your videos, Best regards, S.
They tin the wires before pushing them into the switch. Guess where else they use that same style switch... Oil filled convection heaters running at 1500 watts! Lol
@3:24 unless you solder it first. An looking at those wires nuts it was done by the manufacturer or an electrician so I'd be willing to bet that the wire was soldered at the tip before it was put in the switch
