Thanks Brian. I bought these boots following your advice here and on advrider. I did around 6k miles in them and last week had my first proper fall on my KTM 790R on a muddy road, at speed. During the fall my ankle got caught between the ground and the foot peg. My ankle hurts, but only slightly, I can walk normally. Had I been wearing different boots, esp. the Sidi Adventures or similar (I suspect even the Crossfires, given their worse lateral ankle support), my ankle most likely would have been gone. Thanks for a good recommendation, saved my ankle.

so you are saing crossfires hinge is not good? I have srs3 but dont like hinge rubbing my Sherco clutch cover, looking for some slimmer design, Gaerne are smoothest there, but always liked Sidis fit more. Would x power protect enough in enduro racing i do?

The X3 was the best boot at any price for me. The X-Power with its less complexity looks much more vintage and maybe a little less sexy. Still, I will trust your opinion and go with X-Power when my X3 wear out.

Just got a pair of these. I first tried a Crossfire 3. Too narrow. The X-Power is 1) definitely wider in the same size 2) does not have a vise like grip of my ankle like the CF3 does and 3) feels broken in compared to the less mobile CF3 that wants to be at a right angle 100% of the time. I wear a normal with running shoe in size 14 or 15, usually 15 and my dress shoes are in all cases 14s. In both the X-Power and the CF3 I am a size Euro 49.

Might have to try these. My SG 12s still aren't as comfortable as the SG10s, due to the tight padding above ankle across shin. Love the idea of shaving half pound and getting a bit of traction!

Your insights are amazing! Such in depth knowledge. Thank you. You sold me. I have been wearing Gaerne SG-10s for easily over 10 years with 1000s of miles on single track. They are finally shot and wanted to go to a lighter weight boot. X Powers seem to be a great value for the money. Tech 10s were on my radar. $300 X Power vs $400 Tech 10? What do u think?
@AtomicMoto
@AtomicMoto 10 месяцев назад
We feel the Tech 10 is more of an MX track boot than off road. Instead of those, I would add the SG-12 Enduro to your short list: www.atomic-moto.com/products/gaerne-sg-12-enduro-boots

X-Powers are a great boot and a great value. The weight and simplicity are great. The SG-10, which is more expensive, edges it out overall though. That said I do not think you can go wrong with either.

Thanks for the review. Can you tell me anything about the relative level of protection for a lateral foot crush. I recently got pinned under my bike and when a friend tried to help pick it up the bike pivoted and crushed my foot, side on, snapping my 5th metatarsal. It was an unusual accident but if I can get more protection from that sort of injury than offered by my X3’s then I’d be very interested.

Bought these recently based on Brian's recommendation (super helpful btw). Breaking them in around the house and they were very comfortable out of the box. I have a silly question, however: When it comes to the "finger" of plastic on the second buckle up from the bottom - does it go over or under the outer leather flap when you fasten the strap? If you watch from 4:15-4:24, you'll see the right boot has the plastic finger on the outside of the leather flap, but the left boot has the plastic finger tucked under the leather flap. So maybe I'm not the only one confused 😁
@AtomicMoto
@AtomicMoto 2 года назад
EXCELLENT question!! The length is such that it can go either way, sometimes on its own doing. That said, it goes OVER the flap.

@AtomicMoto

@@tommeyer6033 I an not able to tell....
@davidcooper5790
@davidcooper5790 Год назад
Looks like a friction reducer between the strap and the padding. It’s a bit of a nuisance though and jams against the plastic on the other side sometimes. I found this doesn’t happen if you buckle your boots from the top down. Also helps with the moderately annoying Velcro placement at the top. Great boots though and very light and comfy.

Sounds like a great boot for ADV riding. Question...is it easy enough to remove the metal toe piece, and is that alright to do from a structural standpoint (that is, I assume it does not hold the sole or boot together in any way)? I ask because when riding on tarmac, on a tall ADV bike, often only my toes are making contact with the ground when I come to a stop...those things can be slippery.
@AtomicMoto
@AtomicMoto Год назад
It is very easy to remove the toe caps, and as long as you do not have a massive impact on the front of the boot there is no risk to the structure. Hope that helps.

As in my original question, it's not about appearance. I would remove them to create less chance not slip on tarmac when I can only get toe down at a stop on a tall adventure bike. The caps look fine, and in my experience, all plastic/hinged boots squeak; I have no issue with either.
