With every good news there always seems to be some bad. So yes there is a season 2 and 3 BUT there will be no Theo James playing Sidney Parker and probably no Sidney Parker. Rose Williams returns as Charlotte. But no Sidlotte. Got to say I’m less excited.... quite a bit less excited. 😔
@@RS-jf1gh yes confirmed by Theo himself.😥 There will be only 1 season of Sidney and Charlotte. They announced the series renewal yesterday and then they reported this today. 😔
@@magda880 yes Sanditon was them. I am curious to see if they could even get close to them so I will be watching but with way less enthusiasm. I just don’t think they could ever be topped as a couple so the writers have a huge difficult task at hand.
@@magda880 I'm quite happy with Sidney Parker not returning. I don't hate the character and he did have a good character arc, but eventually he ended up doing the very thing he accused Otis of trying to do- marrying only for money (regardless of what reasons he had- I'm sure Otis had justifiable reasons too and he actually loved Georgiana). I think Charlotte could do much better. And this is more realistic anyway- people don't always marry their first love.
"I don't love her you know" is my absolute favourite scene. The tension and restraint are sky high and it makes the ending of their relationship almost physically painful, as the viewer. Beautiful. I'm extremely disappointed Theo James will not return for season two, it is such a waste of a great character and love story.

I am shocked and disgruntled by Theo's decision to leave Sanditon - season 2 will make no sense without him and Charlotte coming together. I wont bother to watch season 2. No point.
I am so glad it helped. I was devastated when I first saw the ending...seriously I felt weighted for days. But while the ending with no news of continuation still makes me sad, I love watching what I loved about them over an over. Someone must finish this story with a Jane Austen finish.
I am sooo dissapointed.. Each episode it was obvious Sidney and Catherine were 'end game'.. I was so into them; thinking it's Jane Austen.. We'll have a beautiful ending to a wonderful story. Boy, was I wrong.. I cried my eyes out. Their story cannot end like this. I truly hope we'll get a second season! Or just 1 episode.. As long as Sidney and Charlotte will find their way back to each other! Oh, and on a sidenote; I can't get over Sidney's voice.. ❤
I never thought that anyone could replace Elisabeth and Darcy for me but Charlotte and Sidney are just ahead of them at the finishing post! I am glad that I do not know who the writers are who finished Austen’s novel, because I would not be responsible for my actions! How they could make such a mess of the ending, when it was crystal clear what Jane Austen would have written.
I agree with you. The chemistry between these two surpass Mr Darcy and Elizabeth that were my favourite till then. Sidney and Charlotte really show this in each scene... Unfortunately the script writers could not continue with Sidney as actor decided against it. However Jane Austen sometimes has ended love stories like the one between Willoughby and Marianna Dashwood in Sense and Sensibility
@lindescallejas-diaz681 No, Jane Austen never ended one of her novels in such a way. In Sense and Sensibility, it was obvious that Colonel Brandon was the protagonist. Marianne was charmed by Willoughby's romantic advances but it was clear as to what Jane Austen was about, Willoughby was the villain.
I felel as though I have been left up in the air with Sidney and Charlotte not becoming engaged and she being left with a broken heart. Please bring on a second season.
Im glad i'm not the only one who's still fed up by the crap ending of season 1...or by the lack of a season 2 at the moment. I'm not sure it got a fair go in England...it was aired at the same time as a new season of the popular Peaky Blinders...I wish somebody would give it another chance with a season 2...give us an ending that Jane Austen would be proud of....Charlotte should get her man...😁

Sidney is a big boy and he prove many times that he can say no to his brother's caprice. But married a woman who already left him before for a richer man?Like really? They warn Charlotte before, "Sidney is instable", "don't trust him"... Even her father tell her don't trust people... Sidney was messing with Charlotte mind, playing hot and cold with her, even if he had feelings and still, and i really hope, if there is a season 2, that she will grow from it, and make him regret that silly decision.
I know, I mean obviously he's gorgeous but I think his character is completely self centered. The way he looked at her during the dance just to drop her 2 minutes later, forget it! Charlotte was VERY forgiving. Still, I hope they have a happy ending.🙄 👰🤵❤

@@wandaprinsloo7124 You may like his replacement. I can’t say. But for me, and I have watched Season 2, it was not worth it. The chemistry between Sidney and Charlotte could not be matched. The only good thing about season 2 was Mary telling oblivious Tom🙄 that Charlotte and Sidney were in love. But I felt nothing with Charlotte and Alexander. Just my opinion. Theo James was a perfect Jane Austen type character and the show runners intended for S&C story to continue but alas, Theo moved on. To me how it turned out was as like in Pride and Prejudice, if Elizabeth had ended up with Mr. Collins instead of Mr. Darcy.😬 But again, different people like different things when it comes to this.
Since watching the Sanditon series, and the clips, I became interested in Andrew Davies the writer/producer, and realized he's adapted many other period classics, eg, Charles Dickens as well as Austen. The man is a genius, with a quirky sense of humour. With Sanditon, he kept within the frame of the Austen style and subject, (lost or separated loves) but set the characters in a more modern context, the main figures are entrepreneurs, not landed gentry with inherited wealth.Their weaknesses and flaws and problems make them more interesting. The casting is perfect, the performances brilliant. Sanditon really deserves a Season 2. Does anyone know how the petition is proceeding?
A. Davies did some great ones. Wives and Daughters, Pride and Prejudice 1995 and Little Dorrit are some of my faves. As far as I know, the petition has almost 60,000 signatures last time I heard. The Sanditon sisterhood are doing a fantastic job at continuously trying for a season 2. I heard from them to email/write/tweet Amazon studios and PBS for wishes for season 2. There has been a few small positives from some who worked on Sanditon that something maybe coming but it could mean nothing. But still they are being encouraged to continue the fight. I will let my channel subscribers know if anything good happens.
@@JenJiJ316 thank you for the info, I will write to PBS etc. When you compare Davies's adaptations with others, you realise how far ahead of them he is. I love P&P, but think Sanditon is better. Maybe shouldn't say "better", but I think it is "richer" in characterisation.
Andrew Davies has dramatised the classics for BBC, ITV and presumably others. My only criticism is that he tends to spice-up the stories to attract wider audiences whereas I prefer the stories to be told as they were written and therefore truer to the period.
Please Bring on Season 2 or I will Die We need to see Charlotte Happiness and Stringer Future also What Happen to Miss Lambie We Viewers really need. Season 2 Please Make it Happen.
I really liked this show for a variety of reasons but one of the main ones it that it shows that it is not only the woman who loses in the love. Sidney had to make a choice to save his family from financial ruin but it came at a great cost. We get to see how the man is affected as well as the woman. Cannot wait to see season 2!
Episode 7 was the best of the whole season. And please, don't get me started about the ending. Was devastated, furious and heart broken. Not a Jane Austen-type ending. If she would have finished it, I'm sure it wouldn't have been in that way. The chemistry between the two leads was incredible and my favourite out of the scenes you choose was #4 - my truest self *swoon*
OMG.. Bravo..Well done.. I've been asking somebody to put all the scenes of them together in chronological order so we can skip the all the other stuff we don't really care about and even though this isn't quite that it's still so good because it's all the best scenes. I really enjoyed that.. I kept asking myself how is it going to get better than this scene but you forget all their scenes of them together and then of course it does get better. The dance is just too good at the ending. Thanks for your labor of love for all of us...
How about we get “Sanditon” the movie? Can the powers that be just give us a conclusion to the cliffhanger... no need to extend it beyond a final instalment where the lovebirds reconnect and resolve the traumatic ending. Jane would expect no less!

I think we were all hoping that he would have changed his mind or his circumstances would have changed and he was coming to get her. I think she was hoping that too until he said “I hope you don’t think too badly of me”
Today, oddly enough, both Masterpiece and Sanditon twitter accounts posted something similar. It almost thought it sounded like they wanted people to stop asking about Season 2. It’s pretty obvious. No season 2. If ITV was not going to commission it, why would PBS? The only reason there ought to be one is because of Andrew Davies’ stupid ending. He should never have written that without a cast iron guarantee of a second series. He gambled and lost. ITV called his bluff. Stupid of him. And stupid of ITV to market it so badly. The cast and production team did a wonderful job. Some of the writing was superb. But they were let down by ITV and Andrew Davies’ hubris. So I’ve given up hoping for a second series
@@cbw5671 I agree Andrew Davies should have never ended it like that on a chance it would get picked up. Horrible decision. But PBS was never going to produce a second season. PBS is only distributes shows that are already made. And nothing is happening now or may never happen. I think pbs and sanditon acct just want people to quit asking them about it.
It ended similar to the movie about Jane Austen’s life with Ann Hathaway. No happy ending. Jane was left alone too. Very sad. I wish for the better ending for these two. I just watched the whole season and fell in love with them. I had a great pleasure.

We just finished Season 1 and Episodes up to 8. My husband and I enjoyed it all. It's my first time to hear about Jane Austin's unfinished novel. I am fond of her books and to me this story is unique. I think this is the best period drama so far at least for me. It's because of the story, the actors, beautiful settings, beautiful costumes...The actress Charlotte is very interesting and I love the story which was started from the beginning of the season with Sidney, is exciting that you can't help to want to follow the story arc. The ending in Season 1 was not great. I think it's not what would Jane Austin wanted to happen in her book... but I just wish to see a beautiful and happy ending for Charlotte and Sidney or at least for the heroine. To me Theo James is the best actor for this role. At this point I couldn't think of the best love for Charlotte. I think for Charlotte, that is the best ending of the story and seeing her what she becomes and growth. Hopefully in Season 3, we’ll see. It is a definitely a keeper for me.
Can’t say I’m not disappointed, I was really hoping for a better ending for Charlotte and Sidney. But that’s how it goes. I’ll just wait and see what the second season brings.
Hold on cause a strong rumor for S2 ep 1 is….. They will kill off Sidney. Rumor only I’m really torn here on hating it because it means no chance ever of Sidlotte and not hating it because I could never believe Charlotte could move on without Sidney being dead.I don’t love either way but was gonna watch. And still will just to see. Why did Theo decide not to return and why didn’t they just end season 1 with a happily ever after?!

Given the charismatic nature of the two leading characters, the chemistry between them, the dialogue etc. I think the "ending" as it stands is really absurd, illogical. It seems it was allowed to pass because a second series was clearly expected, if not hoped for. But it always comes down to the numbers - I mean $$$$ - doesn't it. What a pity. It's a beautifully produced series, created with not a little sensitivity.
@@JenJiJ316 I agree. Have you also noticed the music, the theme that is played whenever Sidney and Charlotte are together. It's lyrical, never obtrusive, just another (hypnotic) part of the portrait being painted of their relationship, their growing feelings for each other.
No word from Masterpiece. The season 1 finale ended about an hour ago on east coast. Still have west coast to watch. But Masterpiece twitter mentioned nothing but thanked everyone for watching the show. 😔
