FN (aka FAL) rifles, Hi-Powers, Sterling submachineguns, these soldiers could be Canadians of the same period. (But I think the Brens would be replaced by C2 "SAW" automatic rifles.) The fact that in the real battle no Irish actually died is a testament to their toughness. And maybe both sides were not as aggressive as they would be in a game.
@@BlackHawkBallistic I wondered about the identity of the mercenaries, and they were Belgian, French, German and Rhodesian. Likely they would be used in the leadership roles. If the Katanganese forces maybe didn't press as hard as they could have it might have been the mercenary leadership was not keen on getting shot by fellow White men and so let the poorly-trained Katangan militia do all the fighting and take the brunt of the losses. The point would not have been to wipe the Irish out completely so much as get them to surrender, which is what happened, possibly so they could be used as leverage against the UN in negotiations. Belgium supported Katanga and probably also didn't want explain a lot of dead Irishmen to the Irish government. As well, most mercenaries were engaged with blocking the UN relief forces and not taking Jadotville themselves.

There does not seem to be a record of Irish killed in action in Jadotville itself, although some did die in the relief column. This does not diminish their bravery and heroism, of course! We all know if no Irish died, it was because they had God mode on.
