Siemens Spezialsuper B8 radio restoration - Part 1
This is the first look at this tube radio, dated from 1958.
This one I'm restoring with a friend who wants to learn the 'art', so I'll be trying to 'teach' some of the tricks as we go along. The good part - he's doing all the actual work.

50 years since I left the college studying communication engg. mostly in valve and basic transistors.Nice to recapture my subject with your excellent approach to analyse systematically, locate fault and restore the radio/ amplifiers. . Your clarity in speech and video is a treat.

Very good condition indeed. Very rare to find something in that good, untouched condition. A tube radio is allways a good start for our hobby.

Looks like a great project! If you have enough time, I would love to see a long part with lots of markers on the schematic :) I'm looking forward on part 2. Thanks for sharing this!

very nice radio ! its a bit similar to my Grundig 97a AM-FM set ( my first tube radio repair / restore ) in my case, the radio was stored poorly and has a lot of rust plus both dial cords have snapped apart now, they are not easy to restring ! as soon as i get the chassis in full order, i'll post a video as there is no repair video of it .. cheers from Germany :-D

dirkk82 : good luck with yours. You’ve got two of a restorer’s worst nightmares- dial chords and rust. It’s worth it in the end.

the dial cords i can repair, it just takes time ... the rust will never completely be gone unless i remove everything and the tube sockets are riveted in .. but its still a great learning experience and hopefully the next one wont be a rusty mess ! thanks much really like your videos as they help immensely :-)

Hi there. I'm woundering if you can help me with some of your knowledge. I have a siemens milano radio model 5025 from 1954. Everything works including lights and dials. It just won't pick up any stations. I got it from my grandfather and he said it worked the last time it was turns on years ago. I messed around with the antenna wire and port because I thought that would of been thr problem but no go. Is it possible that it won't pick them up as all the newer fm stations in my area are higher than it'll reach on the radio

I’m afraid that kind of repair cannot be done remotely. It’s dangerous and certainly not something you can diagnose from afar.

As i saw just the contraption or frame for the chassis, i asked me, wouldn't it be not better, to build one from aluminium and with slots in the parts? It looks, you must drill new holes for every new chassis. Just my two cents.

Alfred Neumann : this frame already has various holes, which now suit most radios mounted on it. Only occasionally do I have to drill a new one.
