Today I return to Fallout and tackle the long promised Sierra Madre Martini, so charge up your plasma rifle and kick back with me and Dean Domino.
**********************************
Fallout: New Vegas is my favorite of the 3-d Fallout games (though I still prefer the original 2-d games if I'm honest) and it seems I'm not alone in that opinion. There's a LOT of love out there for New Vegas and rightly so: New Vegas managed to build a compelling and fully realized world with a rich lore and a believable setting, factions, characters, the works. The only real complaint about New Vegas is that at launch it had some bugs. The first expansion pack for this game was Dead Money, and not everyone loved it. Dead Money was a big genre shift for Fallout, it wasn't so much a Post Nuclear Role Playing game as it was a Survival Horror game. Yes, in the context of that overall Post Nuclear Role Playing game, it made sense, but as a module, it was all survival horror. It had a punishing difficulty though that I loved that reminded me of the original Fallout 1 & 2, and for that reason it's my favorite expansion for New Vegas. You meet some very interesting characters at the Sierra Madre hotel & casino, one of whom is Dean Domino, a ghoul who's been lurking around the casino since the bombs fell, and he's developed a trick or two to help him survive the passing centuries. One of which is mixing up a drink he calls a Sierra Madre Martini, a combination of Toxic Gas Cloud Residue, Junk Food, and Tin Cans, it's an intoxicating in-game buff that helps you survive the lethal expansion pack. Curiously for a martini alcohol isn't present in his recipe, but I manage to fix that. To make my version you'll need a cotton candy machine, and I strongly recommend the one I'm using here, because it's pretty cheap and works well enough. The link is here: amzn.to/2mmj0h3
You'll be making some Absinthe Cotton Candy as a stand in for the toxic gas cloud. It's made like this.
Combine Approx. 1 part Absinth with 2 Parts granulated sugar (adjust mix to get a coarse paste)
Add 1 Tablespoon of Absinth Sugar to Cotton Candy Machine
Collect Cotton Candy.
Sierra Madre Martini
.5 oz. or 15 ml. Simple Syrup
2 oz. or 60 ml. Vodka
5 or 6 Potato Chips
Shake over ice
Double strain into tin can filled with ice
Garnish with Absinthe Cotton Candy

Powdered alcohol is just booze soaked into a powdered matrix (essentially just a fancy sugar). Easy enough to make yourself (Though time-consuming), and practically useless except for gimmicky stuff like this. So this channel might be one of the few places where it could actually have a practical use.

Having a bit of sugar in there to bring out the flavour of the potato chips makes sense. When you eat the chips, enzymes called amylases in your saliva start to break down the starch into sugars right there as you chew on them so you get a bit of a sweet taste. After straining and mixing with cold water that isn't gonna be happening so you'd have to add that sugar to the drink to get a recognisable "potato chips" taste.

Sierra madre had some of the most fluid melee combat in fallout as I would use my bear trap fist and charge attack dodge the spear chuckers and use ranger takedown when possible on jumpy fellers which allows you to get a charge attack in but it got tedious fast and then they just stopped being affected by the ranger take down so every battle was a slog of getting swarmed as I attack and eat blood sausages. I liked it though one annoying part in the vault and the letting go part was shoe horned in which is so odd especially for FNV.

Personally I feel like Dead Money and Old World Blues are two sides of the same coin of Fallout. Dead Money brings back that bleak hopelessness of the ravaged wasteland of the original Fallout games. While Old World Blues gives you that surreal science fiction that the original Fallout also came with. Dead Money is arguably the better story, with better written characters, higher stakes and all that. But I think Old World Blues has Dead Money beat in pure charm, sure it's not as serious, but you and the game both know that, and it's a pretty fun ride. Old World Blues really makes me think of all the sillier moments in the original Fallout games, like finding the TARDIS, the Cafe of Broken Dreams, or going back in time to break the Water Chip in the first place.

tried this at my friends house since he didn't care if we broke his cotton candy maker (it was like an original old school carnival that has had a tendency to combust when used) instead of absinthe we used red wine and cherry mead (we experimented) and to both we added red food coloring just to get that deep blood red cotton candy. To our shock the machine didn't explode like Chernobyl and we preferred the candy to the drink

I think instead of adding the chips into the drink, you should have crushed/ground them up into a powder to line the can. Like you normally would with sugar. Also maybe dissolve the cotton candy into the drink, making it "cloudy". Not a "physical" cloud.

Fallout: New Vegas is one of the best games ever made. No one has done more with less time & materials to make a game then Mario 64, Conker's Bad Fur Day: Reloaded, & Fallout: New Vegas. Best games ever. I actually made a recipe for the Sierra Madre Martini a while back: 2oz Silver 1800 Tequila (We are in the Southwest after all), Pinch of Salt, cracked Pepper, Cayanne, Paprika, Ground Schezyuan pepper, Red Cherry Kool-Aid (to taste, some like it hot, some like it sweet. I like it in the middle), Crushed/Pulverized/Food Processored Jelly Beans ground up with your Spice Mixture (above), Lemon Juice for Sourness (Lime sweetens, Lemon Sours). Add everything together in a shaker over Ice (if available in your End of the World Prison) & strained into a big rusty Martini Glass. Garnished with fresh Jelly Beans & served with a side of Potato Chips. Smoked, prefered. (Like Zapps Voodoo Chips)

My problems with 'dead money' are that it was very liner, the bomb collar got on my nerves and there's only one enemy type. good story and characters though. btw. Pretty nice twist, but I'd drop there a pinch of speed and couple dashes of growth hormone

I said to myself “I hope there was something funny in that can, like baked beans or something”, and I was right, ITS FUCKING BEANS.

Makes me wonder what the drink would be like with less of the syrup, but if you were to add just a pinch of the “toxic cloud” to the drink itself. Possibly after enjoying both drink and cloud separately, then adding it in to really amplify the taste difference (if there is any).

Dead Money is the best DLC because it has the full clip reload .357 revolver.

The Lonesome Road DLC was one of my favorites and the Honest Hearts DLC was great too. You should make the atomic cocktail from fallout, the Phoenix Down from final fantasy or the Mississippi Queen from regular show

You are not wrong. Bethesda did murder Fallout. I think you would like Wasteland 2 and hopefully 3 when it comes out. Brian Fargo is keeping the spirit alive with those games. I mean FFS there are super mutants right after the bombs drop in 76, so Bethesda sure ain't giving a hoot about lore. I prefer Old World Blues myself, but I am a sucker for corny science schlock. It took me a long time to try Dead Money, because I heard everyone complain about it, but I liked it alot more than I thought I would. Lonesome Road is good as well, but I think Honest Hearts is the weakest other than the Desert Ranger Armor sidequest. That is brilliant. Overall New Vegas is just such a good game and the last great Fallout game. Fallout 4 is fun, but it isn't Fallout. Best commentary I saw on it was from a mod saying "Fun shooter, horrible RPG". Love the videos, keep up the good work.

Dead Money is definitely my favorite DLC, followed very closely by Lonesome Road.

I think the Junk Food/Potato Chips is for making home-brew vodka.

The Sierra Madre was my favorite dlc 100% but it’s close with the (forgive me for forgetting the name) dlc with mummy boy is close mainly because it added my favorite handgun in game and then mummy boy has a special version of it.
