In June of 2022, the Sierra Railway's famous steam locomotive #28 turned 100 years old. To celebrate the locomotive's centenary, Railtown 1897 State Historic Park in Jamestown, CA, ran a special recreated freight train for photographers. The legendary 2-8-0 Consolidation is the star of the show as we catch it in switching action and photo run-bys, all set in Central California's lovely rural landscape. Rare rolling stock made up the train consist, including a boxcar, loaded flatcar and caboose. Three rare hopper cars were seen in switching, but were not hauled in the freight. Since there was no coach car included in the consist, a shuttle train pulled by diesel #1265 transported the participants to each of the photo locations.
With whistle blowing and bell clanging, Sierra #28 ran like new, and put on a great show during our visit. We hope you enjoy this video!
