Coast Guard is the most underappreciated branch of the military. They're the most hands-on with directly saving civilian lives.

EPIRB for anyone who doesn't know- Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon. It has a hydrostatic release gear that gets activated when the boat/ship reaches a certain depth in the water. The gear comes loose and the EPIRB floats to the top and starts broadcasting signals that contains a unique identification number of that particular vessel

“Last known position”.. you could see the soul shattering heartbreak in Sigs face.

Sig is a genuine human with compassion, his body language is so clear of that.

One of my best friends Kai Hamik was on the destination. We played baseball together from JRhigh and even into college. He was an amazing man, friend, son, and brother. We all miss you buddy. The loss of him and his crew devastated so many. Love you buddy

44 years as a commercial fisherman on the North Atlantic.. I lost a brother to a rogue wave. It is a hard life, but I would have done no other. It is a family tradition that goes back almost 150years in my family. My 2 sons do it now and so will their sons. TO ALL YOU STILL OUT THERE FAIR WINDS CALM SEAS

I was a staunch fan of "Deadliest Catch"....loved every minute of every show. To this day I have tremendous respect for the crew of every boat....these men have a kind of courage that is rarely acknowledged in our world today. It is heartbreaking to learn of these losses !!

I served four years in the Coast Guard at Station Sandkey, it’s almost unbelievable how fast a boat of that size can go down. What a terrible way to go. R.I.P

The fact the brave men and women of the coast guard is called puddle pirates is so disrespectful. They are heroes!!! This gets me every time I watch it. The pain and shock and Sig’s face just brings tears to my eyes. And the producer and camera man, very respectful, and walked out and gave him time.

Let me tell you what its like to hear someone you know and care for. radio the general channel... PANPAN PANPAN PANPAN..... The world stops. its the truly a helpless feeling. I lost my best friend too! Her name was Toni. I miss her very much. We’d been friends for 35 years. She died when she was 44. I totally understand the pain. Sorry for your loss, Sig.

Many years ago, I was a young Coast Guardsman in the Gulf of Mexico. When a ship went down there, at least the water was warm enough that a survivor could last for many hours. Those cold Alaskan waters are unforgiving. Rest in peace crew.

That face of pure physical pain Sig had was almost exactly how I reacted when my sister called me to say my brother died a few years ago. It's such a primal thing I even let out a noise like my chest was being crushed. Hope Sig was OK after, takes a long time to get right after that kind of loss especially when it's sudden and unexpected

From a former Coast Guardsman who's done several SARs, some good and some with bad results, it's always tough.

Lost my step Dad to the ocean on a crab boat in the early 80s, when I was 11. I feel for all the families and friends of all who lose love one's to the ocean, she has no mercy. As fickle as can be.

I’ve never seen Sig look so horrified. I’ve watched this show from day one and Sig is a strong fisherman. But this brought him to his knees. God bless this man and the crewman of the FV Destination.

The Bering Sea is unforgivable. It’s hard to believe that ships can go down in the snap of a finger like they do. When the proverbial hits the fan you literally have only seconds to do a number of things in exact order and get everything exactly right. In some instances like the tragedy that happened with the Destination you don’t even get that. So sorry this happened. RIP guys.

My Cousin was Lost at Sea 25 years ago. Left Warrenton, Oregon on their Way to Alaska to Fish for Crab. Never found Anyone. Just gut wrenching for the Family. God Bless these hard Working Men.

Sig was always my favorite when i used to watch this show... he had so much empathy compared to the others. the panic and heartbreak on his face and voice....

The Coast Guard has been involved in many combat missions in wars. Douglas Munro was a recipient of the Medal of Honor for actions on Guadalcanal during WW2 while piloting a Higgins boat. His actions saved many lives but sadly cost him his. His last words were regarding the safety of the men in his charge.

No way they could survive in those waters ..tragic

Former Naval Airdale, NAS Jax Florida. Use to watch the Sea Kings all the time. Tremendous respect for the CG. As an AMH/AMS our P3 Orions did a lot of SAR in the 70's when I was in. God Bless the "Destination" Crew, "Fair Winds and Following Seas"

4.5 hours of fuel, 2 hours to get to target. Leaves 30 min to search before needing to head back. Damn.

Every time I watch this, it breaks my heart for Sig and the crew of The Destination. 😢

I remember seeing this the first time, I could feel his pain

I just wanted to hug Sig at that very moment.

The official report details the ship was overloaded with pots and bait, add to that the excess of ice and the boat capsized. The report states it was completely preventable. I hope they found their peace.

These guys put their lives on line and it's such a hard,cold job.

Retired USCG, stationed in Kodiak, AK 1988-1990, one spring we lost one boat a week for a few weeks. I really is the DEADLIEST Catch. I went out on many searches and came home with no good news for the families.

We love our CG folks! The base we have here is the largest aviation facility in the country and the largest employer in the state. It’s also the facility used for the water training. The pool scenes in the movie the Guardian were filmed at the base here.

That boat strait up capsized and went down in less than a minute

I was ATC 10 years in Alaska. My last 39 months were in Cold Bay, AK where Coast Guard regularly bases a Jayhawk rescue helicopter. I had one of the least physical jobs out there, more mental work and ATC radio work. I was chilled every time Coast Guard called up as "Coast Guard Rescue ####." Even the air taxi pilots kept eyes and ears out for fellow pilots and ship crews. A few air taxi planes have marine radios by choice of the owners, in case they need to assist in a search. There's lots of dangerous jobs and the Coast Guard is standing by for any help they can give.

Coast gaurds make the impossible seem possible. These guys and gals go above and beyond.

You could see the instant the realization of what he was told hit him.

That was a heartbreaking episode. I wonder if they ever found out what happened so fast that they couldn’t get into their survival suits?

Thanks for that beneficial definition of EPIRB. I have both feet firmly planted on the land. I have had two frightening experiences with boats. One was with my retired Navy neighbor returning the40ft rented sailboat going south inside San 8:06 Francisco bay. Wind was coming wildly under the bridge along the right side. Left side was only inches above the water. I was praying and holding on for dear life. We made it. Made a lot of promises. Yes I have broken many of them!

Man this High quality reminds of a tv show called coast guard Alaska TV show.
