Had a similar issue. The disconnector actually fell out when I disassembled the pistol. This video saved me a return to factory, it was simple to re-install sliding it back into its channel under the trigger bar. I have Hogue grips and and appears that the top screw came loose. As others have stated, use red Locktite and lightly tighten. If the screws are too tight the magazine will not eject properly either.

This is not just a trigger rest issue, but a DANGEROUS safety issue. Just as these soft grips can be squeezed inward and retain the release, preventing the trigger from resetting... they can also allow too much space, causing the trigger bar to STACK on top the release and then get trapped by friction WHILE IN A DEPRESSED. Your trigger becomes be stuck in a “pulled” state, thus causing the hammer to drop the moment you release the safety, potentially killing you.

It is my understanding that the issue has been resolved from Hogue. They never admitted to me that there was a design flaw (I have had several people try these grips with no issue on their P238) and I believe them. I DO believe that it was a quality control issue. Bottom line guys, if you make ANY change to a weapon that you depend on for your or your loved ones safety you MUST function check that weapon and spend some time at the range.

I had a Sig P220 with an aftermarket grip (not Hogue) and was if the gun was upside down the trigger wouldn't reset for a second shot. Turned out the grips were on too tight. I'm pretty sure that left grip is the culprit given it's proximity to the spring directly underneath. Watching your video gave me the idea to check it out. Thanks.

I have a brand new Sig Sauer P938-9-BRG-AMBI that is doing the same thing with the factory installed Hogue rubber grips. The hammer stays back and the trigger will not release the hammer. Your video was very informative.

I've experienced this issue as well with my P938. Make sure the disconnector is properly lubed, and DO NOT overtighten the grip screws when installing the grips! Use RED LOCKTITE (just like SIG does at the factory) on the grip screw threads and only lightly tighten the grip screws. One other thing you can try is relieving a little material from the backside of the left grip, in the area where it would encounter the disconnector and the trigger bar. If you overtighten your grip screws, you run the risk of the trigger bar and disconnector rubbing on the backside of the left grip, thereby hindering these parts' ability to move properly. I hope this helps, and I hope SIG finds some way to avoid this problem in the future!

Great video, allowed me to see the error is when the trigger lever is out of alignment from the hammer portion you show as the one being above the grip. The trigger lever, "that piece" and the hammer all have to sit/be lined up. They prob get a little out of alignment from taking off grips/cleaning. Trigger bar-disconnector-hammer strut(?). Take the grip off, they're prob not lined up from changing em or cleaning. Helped me see what the error was quick like when you mentioned the disconnector.

Excellent Video! I was having occasional reset problems with my P938, and I would shift my grip, and the problem resolved itself. I never knew why it happened until now. I have wood grips on the P938, and haven't had the problem since. My wife and I also have two P238 pistols with the lighter champagne finish on the frame. I took the factory installed Hogue grips off a year after buying them, and the finish had corroded and flaked off under the rubber!!! I have rosewood grips on those two pistols now. Just throw the Hogue grips in the trash. Thanks for the explanation!

I have 2 P238's. One from academy, and another from Cabela's. the first thing I did with each of them was buy a set of these rubberized Hogue grips and install them. I have 3000+ rounds through on of the P238's and a couple hundred in the other P238, all with the rubberized hogue grips and I have not seen this problem. I even tried the method you demonstrated by applying pressure on the grip, and I was unable to replicate the problem. I suspect that Hogue might have some quality control problems that possibly allows a defect on a few of these that come out of the hogue factory?

Hey, I’m having the same issue on my sig 238 and my grip is Hogue. Did Hogue ever send you a need grip and did switching it out fix the problem?

Can't see the disconnector on mine very well (it's black) and the trigger won't release when there is no magazine. Works fine when there is magazine. I have this same grip.

HI - Just got a brand new p238 Latest Model 10/2014 - Put on the Hogue grips and had this exact issue. Is there an update? Is it the grips or the gun. Seems like the grips to me. Please update if you can - Thanks!

Quick question I just brought a sig 238 equinox Is your slide a different finish then the frame? My slide is a more of a matte greyish black comparing to the frame black the frame is more of a deep black. Thanks

I hate to admit this but the gun STILL hasn't been sent back to SIG. It belongs to my brother and I guess he thought it would make a better paperweight than an actual weapon. He put the stock grips back on and the gun has functioned flawlessly.

so is it because you overtightened the grip screws

ConditionRed : No I don't believe so. I tried the screws loose and still had the issue.

Glock Guru that's odd, many other reviewers added the same grips with no issues
@glock34guru

ConditionRed: I agree. I didn't claim that this was the norm. Just an issue that I had with this particular gun and that particular set of grips. Haven't seen it before and haven't seen it since.

I am also having a rest issue, p938 factory equipped hogue grips, manufacturer date May 2015. Upon inspection of the reset, very cheaply made. The two pieces sit n each other with no type of attachment mine has enough play where the rubber grips are soft can allow the two parts of the reset to disconnect and run beside each other. A nice way to have full auto pocket 9mm, but dangerous and scary.

I had the same issue with mine. The trigger bar shifts outside the disconnector and slides up and down without moving it, with the Hogue grips. With the rosewood grips this does not happen. I agree it is a poor design. I would not expect a quality pistol to depend on the grips to keep the working parts in alignment.
