You make some really good points. Not enough reviewers recommend taking a potential new firearm for a "test drive." I have a P365XL that I carry when I need a little narrower profile than my P320 X-compact. I selected these two pistols (after test-shooting several) because they both have very similar X-series triggers that break at 90 degrees with very similar pull weights. The shape of my rather larger hands causes me to prefer the grip of the P320. But I like the 365XL for all the same reasons you pointed out with the 365X. I also use the Speer Gold Dot 124gr +P JHP for my defensive ammo. I've yet to have a malfunction with either of the firearms I carry. Very nice review, I just thought I'd offer my two cents to help out with the algorithm a bit. Thank you for bringing us this review!
So I have the p320 xcompact and I love it. I have been looking at the p365xl as well. Is the grip significantly thinner in the palm? I like the chumminess of my gun but would like a slimmer carry sometimes. I haven’t gotten the chance to test a p365xl out for myself yet
@@jamesdent5737 In my opinion, the grip on the P365xl is quite a bit more slender than the P320 series. I find it a bit more comfortable to carry, especially IWB. But I still usually carry P320 because I have pretty large hands. The 365xl is a great pistol, but personally, I'd like the grip to be a little thicker between the front strap and back strap, to give my support hand a little more real estate. It is also almost 0.5" narrower from side to side. That helps with holstered comfort a bit when you need to minimize printing risk. But that said, I can still shoot the P365xl very accurately and it's been 100% reliable, even in my big ape hands. lol. I hope that helps answer your question. If not, feel free to leave a follow up message and I'll reply. Take care and stay safe.
I’m sure this has been recommended, but magguts +2 spring kit. It’s all that is needed to make this a truly unbelievable carry weapon. I’ve had mine since the kit was released and have had ZERO feeding issues whatsoever. So I can carry 15 total rounds without adding any length to the grip. Definitely check it out!
Pretty amazing you can get 15 rounds into this tiny gun. The P365 really has revolutionized concealed carry. The Glock 26 feels like a brick compared to this.
I did this and then found that my magazine struggled to go into the gun without having to slap it. Do you find yourself having to do that too or do you think I just did something wrong?
@@gingy1799 I feel like it was a bit more difficult when it was fully loaded and trying to insert the mag with the slide down. However, I usually slam my mags out of habit so I do reloads the same if I ever would need to. I never had any issues with the rounds getting jacked up doing this either, so I feel confident with it.
I have no problem with my red dot, love it. My 365X works perfectly with all ammo I have run through it. I have no issues dropping and changing magazines. Trigger works great for me. Using a mag loader is easier on your hands, that is for sure. I have a hellcat also and the recoil is not a problem for me. I love how both guns feel and run. Shooter preference.
Great review of the P365X. Your advice about trying the pistol before buying is spot on. I was dead set on the G43X until I rented one along with a P365. I shot the Sig better and was overall more impressed with the ergonomics and build quality of the Sig. I’m glad I shot both before making my purchase decision. Keep up the great reviews!
Same. I went to store to get a 43x. But had to feel a x and xl and standard small one. I didn't prefer the pinky on the mag rest. Then on to a x and xl. Hard choice. Bringing it up. It seemed the xl got on target milliseconds faster. Balance seemed better. Like a slim 1911. Though im not a fan of 1911. More to do with slide length. I eventually got a 2nd xl and might get a x.
Excellent review with all good and needed points for anyone curious about the featured model. You enumerated all salient stuff that people need to know and need to do to get an accurate idea about this gun before deciding to buy one . Thank you.
Good review Dave! I wouldn't say that if I didn't think you were well qualified to propagate information about the firearm in terms of your own experience and knowledge of the subject matter. I have the original P365 and love it. I didn't at first, though, because I had the problem you mentioned with the tip of the striker breaking off, after less than 250 rounds fired. My trigger reset spring also broke but that was a minor issue and an easy fix. Sig Sauer customer service is wonderful and they fixed my problems no questions asked. 1000 rounds later, after the fixes, I am running "hot, straight, and normal" with the P365. I can only assume the P365 X is also a very fine gun, and it seems to be as you've demonstrated here. Keep us posted as you put more rounds through the gun.
Excellent review. I own this gun as well. I had the same difficulty loading the stiff magazines you described. I ordered new magazine spring, follower, and but plate from Magguts. This increased the capacity from 12 rounds to 14 rounds adding less than .25 inch to the length to the grip. This modification also solved the stiff magazine loading issue. I can easily load 14 rounds without using a loader.
@@phillipneill7315 I got a new p365 standard.. I loaded the mags Wednesday night .. shot the gun Saturday and as of last night the mags are still really stiff and hard to load ..
I like the review and the pistol. Thx for the vid. For me, it was S&W SD9, perfect size pistol for me, I like all fingers on the grip. It's so great we have so many choices.
Picked up my P365X today. I am Heckler Koch guy all the way and usually carry P2000SK in .40, but I am very impressed with a new P365X and gonna give it a shot(no pun intended). I really like how slim it is, which is important for summer carry and I also ordered Shield SMSc as a red dot sight. At 60 y.o. I would like to try a red dot.
Looking at this gun for myself and my mother for conceal carry. I want to be able to walk into the mall with my wife while keeping her safe, and mother works at the front desk of a Christian college. Both situations require a good conceal carry pistol, and the P365x is looking like a strong contender. Thank you for this extensive review. I'll be passing it along.
If I may ask what did the grip cost? I like the small grip on the 365 but I think in the big picture I’d probably be happier with the larger gryof the X
@@northjerseykevin409 there are all kinds of grip options, from Sig to several reputable companies that sell grips in different colors, materials, and stippling. One of the things that makes the gun so great. I have the 365 (installed the Sig flat trigger) and the XL, and I can make two additional guns out of it, including the X (sans the optics-ready slide).
Awesome video my friend. These are badass little guns. I have the 365 and also the xl. My girlfriend has the 365. I found I actually prefer the curved trigger. I was dead set on a glock 43 till I watched a bunch of videos on the 365. This little guy paired with a Tulster IWB holster is great to carry.
With the Magguts kit 14 rounds load easier than 12 do without it. Function has been 100% reliable for me. I've used Magguts for years in my Shield. Their kit for the Sig is high quality as well.
Good review. I'm sold on the elegant simplicity of the P 365 X. It's very clean and doesn't look like it would snag on anything. I was checking out the XL version but it's a tad bit oversized for my liking. I'm still looking into the Hellcat and Ruger Max 9. I'll be going to a gun store that carries all three and see which one feels best in my hands. I can say the P 365 X beats the other two on looks. It's a great gun and thank you for doing the review.
I replaced my Hellcat with the P365X and it's been fantastic! I still have the Hellcat and while it's a very fine pistol, the P365X is just much better to me, I've added the Holosun 407k and the Magguts kits and it's even better!
I purchased one of these a few months back and carry it everyday. I have probably put 500-600 rounds of various target ammo. Not shooting any of my defense ammo right now. I have had zero malfunctions, it feels great and is very accurate.
@@cyron1313 it doesn’t look as bad as the images I have looked at online. It’s definitely tear dropping the primer one direction but not significant drag mark. I was shooting my19x on the same day and I can see a difference between the two in the bag of spent bass. I’ll definitely take a closer look next time I take it out and keep an eye on it as I put more rounds through it.
Dave I have both of the guns you’re talking about. I’m not a Glock fan boy but that 19X is hard to beat. I have 12 pistols and kinda think I’m a Sig guy then I shoot that 19X and it’s like shit this thing is amazing…
I completely agree with you about not putting optics on a carry gun!! Using a carry gun for self defense will always be within a point & shoot distance. Optics on carry guns only add negatives - they add size to the gun and slow down target acquisition!!
Magguts makes a base for those 12rd mags. They’re +2 so 14+1 without any additional length on the magazine. Very reliable. Y’all should check them out!
Bro - you have some big fingers! Mine aren't quite that big but I do need the X frame to get all my digits on the grip, I had to add the longer grip after I got the gun. I live in California and the only one available here (at the moment) was a sub compact version with a manual safety. So I got the longer grip frame and ditched the safety, much happier now since I'm normally a Glock user and the safety thing was weird to me. You're absolutely right about the red dot sights, they are a personal decision (and are GREAT for accuracy) but may not be something you want in a EDC gun (I don't either). And the neat thing about these SIGs is the modular approach, change out the frame OR the slide with the whole FCU concept which is fantastic! Great video and thank you for making it.
The red dot is perfect for those who have vision problems. It doesn’t add a whole lot (bulk wise) to the slide. The p365x is the only gun that I put a red dot on... just to learn how to shoot red dots. I don’t carry it with the red dot but at least I won’t have to relearn the red dot at later time. In my opinion, the p365x + a 507k is the perfect ‘starter’ red dot system.
One thing I found that helps out when stuffing those last few rounds in is slapping the bottom of the mag to shift the stack around a bit. They loosen up over time & the gun is worth every penny. I ended up going with a DeSantis pegasus holster due to budget, but I want the tier 1 appendix rig down the road.
I added a piece of leather to the back of the Pegasus that covers the entire slide & frame of the gun, keeping it from touching my skin in the summer when only wearing t-shirts. You might try the Versa-Carry holster with a padded back. I really like mine and my fears of it being too thick were unfounded.
@@robertbest8253 Thanks, I might give that a shot and still alternate between the Desantis and the JX Tactical depending on what I'm doing. Now I'm looking at Tulster to go with a tac light. (sigh) it never ends..
Great review, my Sig P365X is my primary carry. I also have 15 round mag but i typically carry 14 + 1 to give my mag spring some breathing room. I also attached a TLR6 stream light on mines as well very comfortable yet simple to carry. The ammo i use is the sig rounds (vcrown) 124 grain
The 15 round magazine comes with 2 different size tail pieces. The long one is for the 365 regular frame. there is a shorter one to accommodate the 365x and 365xl which is about 1/2" shorter stick out . I love mine in xl version.
I’m glad sig is now selling this configuration out of the box but I’ve been carrying this configuration for the last year and a half. I spent about $70 to upgrade my standard 365 with an XL grip and factory flat trigger. I would say the optics cut on the short slide is bigger deal on the new model.
I own the original 365 and loved it from the moment I fired it. never an issue and was a better shooter than I had expected. Not sure what it is about my Glock 43 but it's still my favorite carry. (kydex IWB) also.
I rented the p365, hellcat, and pps m2. The p365 ended up being the best shooter for me. The pps m2 was a close second, but the trigger reset was too long on the one I rented.
I bought my first Sig a 516-556 two years ago and it runs pretty damn good I liked it right out of the box I have added a few things to make it a little more personal for me so about 8 months ago I bought a Sig 365xl with a zero and I absolutely love it it is pretty accurate and easy to manage I added a Hogue handgrip and bought a couple 15 mags which at the range makes it even more accurate I would recommend any of the 365 lineup just shoot each one to see what works best for you
In the market for a carry pistol and this is looking like a great option. Getting the pinkie on the grip is important to me. Currently carrying a Ruger LC9s and need to use the extended baseplates to get the pinkie on.
I am expecting to get 365X in a few days, and this review gave me a positive nod that I made the right choice. I am looking forward to testing my new gun. And I am a new subscriber. Thanks!
Just got my new P 365X with the Sig Romeo One already installed. Had to get used to a red dot but once I did it shot great. No malfunctions .Update, did not really care for the Romeo Zero so I bought and installed the metal sight rear plate.
I did not like Sig until they came out with the P365 line. I tried the "Scorpion -22lr" pistol- very ammo specific. If it is not CCI 22lr-forget it. Now I love the 365 line and the modularity. Wonderful arrangment.
I agree 100%-I have the Sig P320. I use it for my dedicated home defense pistol. That is only to a 12 Gauge shotgun 00-Buck.- The P320 is to bulky for my body. I shoots like a Cadillac-Just to big for a carry.- I think I may upgrade the trigger and spring system on one first-just to see how I like it Armory Craft has some good looking products.
First time viewer. This was a very good review, actually the best I have see thus far, on a gun I am ready to purchase. Thanks for the thoroughness of your review.
The Sig P365X is great. I have (2) different grip modules for mine. The Wilson Combat as well as the Sig Sauer Laser Engraved in grey. The Sig laser engraved is about 100.00 & the Wilson about 60.00. I also have the origional 10 round with Wilson, that can give a nice 10-12 round package. The Sig P365 XL Spector-(Custom Works is excellent. I got lucky and bought (I was told) one of the last) with the 3.6" Gold barrel & Gold trigger & gold extended controll units. I only paid 1,100.00 as it was a "Demo/Floor modle, totally new. I like it better than some of the Sig P365 XL Comp. Those are the same length & have a 3.1" barrel. I have been told this is a rare discontinued model. There is good news for anyone that still wants something similar and probably just as good-The Sig P365 "Battle Worn" which has all the same features (No gold) but works the same for about 1,000.00-Take care, God bless.
Well done presentation! I'm looking at one of these too. What do you think of it after a year so far? I just picked up a S&W Shield Plus, and WOW! Pure sweetness! I'm thinking I want a this Sig too. I agree with your points. I DO NOT LIKE IT when folks tell you that you need to shoot distances to defend yourself. Defense is up close and personal. I mean close! Like 3 to 5 feet. You DO NOT NEED, in my opinion, a red dot optic. As a matter of fact, probably even sights. If the bad guy is 40 feet away, that's a good thing! He's "over there" If I'm in a parking lot, filling up with fuel in my car, walking into a store, those are the distances I'm talking about. One last thing... PRACTICE, practice, practice! Bad guys don't practice. I practice. Also Thumbs up and just subscribed.
Good stuff man! I just sold my P365X because I needed some emergency $ unfortunately. I never even shot it. What's crazy is that I had put a TLR 6 and a holosun 407k x2 red dot. And had added the mag guts plus two rounds, which uses a base de plate that is just barely bigger than stock. I tried carrying it in my white hat hybrid holster (ISWB) and it just disappears underneath my shirts. I also carry a glock 26 with a G19 15 round magazine plus the Xgrip and TLR6. The P365X with all that stuff is about the size of the G26 with the mentioned accessories but a bit thinner and lighter. I liked it.
Excellent review, great video! And by the way, those are cool ear plugs. I have had the holster for some time already, I've just been saving up to purchase the pistol and a couple of 12+1 mags. I am going with the X I think.
Only guns I put red dots on are my rifles. I always felt iron sights on handguns are efficient, never had any issues with target acquisition… in fact muscle memory really helps me the most. Just my preference.
I gave this video a thumbs up for his view on red dot optics on carry pistols. I gave you a thumbs up for yours as well. These newer shooters make me laugh...looks like a Star Wars SCI-FI pistol or something.
Thanks for another thorough, common sense review. I opted for the original 365 which gives me the option of a short 10 round grip or the x/xl 12 round grip with the available 12 round mags, which then gives me the exact grip as the x/xl. Like you, I see no point in a RDS on this pistol, so really the only differences are the beaver tail and the flat trigger. The flat trigger looks interesting, I may add that to mine. Thanks again.
I recently picked up a Sig P365XL with a Romeo Zero red dot already installed. One of the first things I did was to install the Mag Guts 14 rd. conversion in both mags; well worth the price. The modified mags are indeed easier to load and feed flawlessly. Not really a big fan of the Romeo Zero co- witness rear sight. I would prefer the rear iron sights on the P365X. The rear sight plate was not in the box so I guess I'll have to go hunting for a rear sight.
You mentioned that you consider 12 rounds marginal and wish you could get more rounds in a flush-fit mag. Check out the Mag-Guts kits, which add 2 rounds and only increase the length by about 1/16". So far all the reviews on them have been positive.
Yes somebody else mentioned that when I put this video out. And I did buy the mag guts kit, love it. You’ll see that if you continue to watch the series about the P365x
I have the P365 XL Spectre Comp. The slide is just a bit too long for my comfort so I think a P365X is the right move. The Spectre will make a nice collector fun gun at least.
To each their own but in my opinion for a carry gun I want as small and light as possible which is why I like the original. Sights and capacity don’t matter to me on a conceal carry gun. 10 rounds is more than enough for me. I agree red dots are pointless on a gun like this
I feel the same way about the mag release you mentioned at 7:05, my thumb works the same as yours. I love this gun and it's my EDC, but if I could change one thing it would be that mag release. For example, if it could be set straight backed 1/4" that would be fantastic. However, it's still my favorite EDC as is.
Your video was awesome extremely informative!! It made me want to run out and buy the firearm right away but I got to save some money up!!! However could you do a video on how to switch the magazine release to the other side for left-handed shooters such as myself ?? I appreciate it and keep the videos coming on the Sig 365x !!!
David, Great review, I'll have to give it consideration. It doesn't look like it has a thumb safety, which I think I like because I shoot left handed, your thoughts?? Thanks.
maybe I'm old school but why would anyone want to carry a firearm with a red dot or have a light mounted on it for CC? I want my CC to be as light as possible without added bulk. We're taking about hitting a target "in most cases" less than 10'.
Excellent review video. I just bought my P365X a few months ago but haven't gotten it to the range yet. Got some cheap reloaded target ammo and then spent money on some Hornady Critical Duty 135 grain,. Curious how it will do with 135. It's not +P but every review I've watched shows crazy pass through with the Duty, which makes me a bit concerned. However, the 115 grain Critical Defense, I'm not really sure about in a 9mm. I've used the Defense in my 40 cal GL23 though
Try moving the magazine release to the passenger side of the pistol. You can activate it with your middle finger, like Spiderman does when he shoots webbing out.
I had a 365 which the wife now has -she loves it and shoots it real well. So we went to the gun store and the guy hands me the x . He told me about the red dot potential -don't know if I'll use it. I like the flat trigger better than the curve on the regular 365, so I bought it right at closing time(I usually look everything over closely) . I got it home and it felt great but had no manual safety something I'm used to so back it went next day. Now I'm looking high and low for an x with a manual safety with no luck yet. Sig will likely come out with one before long. I entertained the idea of the Hellcat but never shot one. And I love that green x ray sight. My finger would get caught on top a bit on top with the 365 when the trigger would return while dry firing whereas this didn't happen with the x. So I wait. I think you will like that Sig. I shot a bit low at first but once I figured it out it shot great. My Shield had a tendency to shoot left due to the thin grip . Once I learned to increase pressure with my left hand I shot much better with it too.
Gold dots are good. I use 124 grain American Eagle FMJ and Federal 124 grain HST since the ballistics and therefore point of aim/ impact are similar. They function well for me.
Dave not gonna lie I get excited when you post gun review videos! You're honest and thorough, but unfortunately it usually means my savings account takes a hit haha. Your S&W Model 60, Colt Classic 1911, and now this video were deciding factors for me. I've been looking at the 365X for a couple weeks now and was excited to see you posted a video on it. Keep up the great work!
sounds like S&W, Colt and Sig should be paying me commission! seriously though, I appreciate the compliment and glad I can get some info out there to help folks make decisions about their firearms purchases. Thanks for watching!
Nice review. Just picked up an X last week with the Romeo Zero. Sure it protrudes a bit, but it's a good trade for the benefit of being able to quickly acquire my target with both eyes open. I'm ok doing it with irons, but when seconds count, I'd rather have that RDO painting my target. Also, mine didn't come with the x-ray front post. It's got the green dot, but barely glows in low light. What the heck, Sig?
Nice review ... thank you. Never understand why folks are keen on having night sights/glow in the dark stuff. If it's so dark that you can't see the sights,, then you can't see the target either.
@@drdrake63 I have the Romeo zero 365xl, it's one of the best ccw pistols I've ever owned. The slide action after 500 rounds is butter smooth, the recoil is surprisingly light and it doesn't print. Just outstanding.
@@robertharing7031 right?!? It's super lightweight and low profile, it's got stopping power, high tech accuracy, excellent capacity, minimal recoil...you can't ask anymore from an edc ccw.
I just bought one. I agree about only putting 11 rounds in the mag. These Sig P365- I have the 10 tround as well- are best when broken in ove a period of time. I clean and lube frequently. I love the holsters -IWB with 1,5 belt cover, claw and a body /skin protector. I hardly know it is there. I am 5-8" and 120 lbs. I love the fact I can easly appendix carry.- I am living in MPLS. I am going to have to figure out a winter carry. Probably my Glock 19. Easier to grab.
Love my red dot also like my extended mag. But as you said it is each persons individual choice and I can understand wanting it as small as possible but my preference is have a gun I can conceal while still having all the rounds I can get with a red dot and back up iron sites.
Been looking at Sig Sauer for a possible alternative carry gun, for when I just don't feel like carrying the 1911. But I keep hearing that the M&P Shield line might be something to look at. May come down to price. May have to get out and start handling these at the local stores to see what they feel like in the hand.
I own a few 1911s, a S&W M&P Bodyguard 380 and two Sig P365xl variants. The S&W is quality, the M&P line is outstanding and the new Shield is an excellent edc gun. All that having been said, if you don't get a sig P365xl (preferably with the Romeo Zero red dot optic), you're just cheating yourself. I can't say enough good things about it and I'm the guy that points out the flaws in everything first. The biggest and only flaw I can find with my Sig is that it doesn't have one.
The Sig365 is not hype. It shoots softer and is slightly more accurate that my Glocks. It just feels more natural in my hand. I could feel the leap in technology the first time I shot one back to back against a G19, 26 & 42.
S365 > Glock 43. Sure the 365 had a bad run at the beginning but I own 3 now (SAS, XL, X) and I love them. 365X with a micro compensator and a 507k is the best EDC I’ve ever used. 25 yards 3” group all day every day.
