Despite being 9-years old, this lens is still popular today as a (relatively) inexpensive ultrawide angle offering for APS-C digital cameras. How does it handle, and how does it perform on a modern, 20mp digital SLR camera? Take a look and see!

i have had this lens for 5 years mainly for landscapes. one thing i want to say if you want to shoot a wide angle landscape you can simply take 2 or more photos and stitch them together.

I use this on my 70D for a wlak around when I am in Europe. I think it does a great job.

You can get round dof blur by locking the camera off and taking a longer exposure with the aperture down, if you set it right, that wouldn't blur out, I've used a 650d to photograph miniatures and have got front to back pin sharp results.

Having watched that I must admit mine works the same. What I was worried at the very beginning of using it was a little bit of softness in corners, which made me crazy at start , but I can bare it nowadays. Anyway, the thing I do not want to check myself is how far the front part of the lens is durable being put flat=attached to a body while not used.

I kept thinking about other older (or not) brands for my lowly Fuji XM1, but having to manually focus with no view finder and only that (good) screen, it didn't add up. I'd gave more fun with the 10mm becoming 15mm on my body. (person, body, whatever) but, there must be something to use to see the screen in daylight, as I had on my old 5D Mark II, so I shouldn't give up on lenses longer than my kit 16-50.

Christopher Frost Photography Nice review as always. I really want a lens around the 10 to 16mm range so this is great. I would prefer an f2.8 but I can't afford it. I've seen some with fish eye lenses. I don't want that. Anyway, thanks for shoeing me what this can do.

I had this lens for many years shooting it through my Canon Rebel T3, and much later on my M50. I only really used it for landscape in my travels, and it did fairly well. I almost regret selling it off, but I'm not sure how well it would uave paired with my R7 at 32mp.

I used it on my R7 to shoot close up of the planes at Osh Kosh. It worked pretty well, just have to turn the IBIS off. But shooting at 10mm, ISO100, f/8, 1/200 in bright sunlight, you don't need to have IS anyway.

if you have this objective, i have a super tip for you. you can use it with a fx camera with teleconverter kenko 1.4x teleplus pro 300 and you have more angle than only the objective and a dx camera. it s work with the kenko but not with the sigma 1.4x (sorry for my bad english).

That's a very interesting distortion pattern. First it shows some pincushion distortion, then it turns into barrel distortion and the left and right edges of the chart are just wobbly lines. Looks pretty funny.

I considered all the three Sigma lenses that you last reviewed, and I'm glad I got neither of them. :D Instead I got the old Sigma 17-50mm 2.8, and a mint secondhand Canon 10-22mm (and a cheap Canon 55-250mm IS II + a Canon 50mm 1.8 I). Very happy with those. Although I don't think the new Canon 10-18mm will be better (in terms of image quality) than the Canon 10-22mm, it is an extremely interesting lens in my opinon. Surprisingly cheap, small and light, and with IS and STM! Being able to use ultra wide angles is I think an important selling point for DSLRs over other slightly more compact cameras. Great to see that there´s finally an affordable option in that department! I´m curious how it will perform though.. as I´m sure you are too.

Does this lens work with a follow focus? Cause the Canon STM silent auto-focus lenses do not, because of the motor in the focus ring. It's hard to explain but focusing isn't determined by how far you turn the ring, it's determined by how fast you turn it. So every time you try setting up a rack focus, the focal point will be different.

Great video! I would like your advice. I don't have an ultra wide lens for my nikon d5100 (i have a 35mm prime lens, and the kit lenses, 18-55 and 55-200) Should i go for that lens? (i really struggle with indoor photography) I'm really anxious about my crop factor, i think that it won't be wide enough on my camera (as of this video i mean).

10mm should be wide enough really. If you want to shoot indoors, consider a lens with a brighter aperture, like the Sigma 10-20 f/3.5, or the Tokina 11-16 f/2.8 :-)

I was checking the sigma 10-20 f/3.5 and the difference in the price goes arround 30-40€ It won't be a problem for shooting outdoors (landscapes or outdoor portraits) while having always an f/3.5, or will it be? is the f/3.5 sharp enough (considering the lenses i already own) ?

Nick Dim I don't completely understand your question. The f/3.5 is sharp in the middle and soft in the corners. Take a look at my review for more information :-)

The quality of the lens will not improve. If you want 24mp images, you'll have to get a better lens - the Canon 10-18, at least

Victor Hugo Dont go for the Canon. Look for a wide angle lens with light, it will be the best for night club shoots. Look for a lens with f 2.8.

Krishna Kumpakha If you're shooting starry skies in the dark, then you'll need the lens with a wider aperture. Go for the Tokina lens instead

If you buy a Canon EF-Sony E adaptor, and even then it probably won't work well, and it's a crop sensor camera lens too so you'll be missing out there, too

Yeah I used it on a D5100. The Tokina 11-16 f2.8 is faster but usually more expensive so you may want to consider it based on your budget.

I got this lens yesterday. Today I took it out and found it took awful shots. Any type of light (even if the sun wasn't directly in the shot) washed the contrast away and ruined the photo. If I put my hand in front of the camera to block the light it was fine, unfortunately the lens hood is too small to block any light due to the wide perspective. Your shots don't appear to have this problem. Are you using a polarizing filter? I wonder if this will solve the problem?

HEEEELP! I just got this lens today used from ebay from a seller with good rating for my Canon t3i. IT ISN'T MOUNTING! It will go in the camera mount but will not turn. Ive had other canon lenses that were hard to turn when mounting at first but they mounted just fine but this will not budge. Is the lens mount broken? I know my camera mount isnt broken because I have 2 other lenses that work fine. And yes, the lens does have a canon mount.

Save for the extra little bit of money and get the Tokina 11-16 f2.8. There isn't any competition between the two. Sure, the Sigma has the extra 4mm of Reach, but if you're taking that into consideration... With any modern DSLR, you have enough Resolution to crop the extra 4mm.
