I’m just rebuilding my kit (Canon->Sony switch) and seriously considered this lens. I’ve never had wide primes and decided to try the Sony 24mm 1.4 but it isn’t always wide enough. The wide aperture/fast glass is so nice so now I’m thinking Sigma 14mm 1.8 to cover this range since on my 16-35 it was almost always one end or the other. Thanks for getting these newer lenses reviewed so quick!

Photos looked awesome. Very little distortion, and great sharpness and contrast. Thank you for sharing your samples raw files. That is so helpful in letting us decide for ourselves how nice the lens and camera performs. Very few people would do this and it’s awesome 👍

I just got this lens for work and I'm in love with it. I'm a real estate photographer and it's been perfect. Being an f/2.8 lens over an f/4 has been awesome when I'm shooting video in dark houses or as the sun is going down. And being able to get the whole room I'm shooting in frame without having to completely crunch myself in a corner has been awesome.

I discovered one thing about this E mount lens. Even if it zooms, it is still a block lens/prime lens. Because when you dial the zoom, the whole assemby moves back and forth. From front to back, the elements never separate from eachother 😎

I am a new fan, really enjoy your videos and this has been a great review all the way. I would love to see some pictures from the Sony lens, that would make a nice comparison. Something that comes in mind when buying Sigma lenses is the after sales service. I don't know how the situation is in America but in Europe it sucks big time. I was told to wait 90 days for a single ring replacement. Now, most people don't have an alternative lens sitting around and regardless if you're a professional or just an enthusiast this is a deal breaker.

I’ve never shot with the 12-24, so I cannot speak to its IQ, although I would be very surprised if the Sony was sharper. For my uses, 14 is perfectly wide and I’ve gained a full stop of light. Another aspect that is impressive to me (aside from being incredibly sharp throughout the zoom) is how well distortion is controlled even at the wide end. I’ve used the 10-18 f/4 quite a bit and it introduced significantly more distortion at even longer focal lengths.

Tempting to turn my 12-24 f4 in for this lens. I'm a real estate photographer so I appreciate the extra 2mm on the wide end, and the extra weight reduction for doing video on a gimbal. But the sigma would be more fun for that 2.8 on my Astro photography, and it would be nice to have the improved image quality and filter slots.

The Tamron 17-28mm f2.8 is less than half the price of the Sony and $600 less than the Sigma in my part of the world... are you billing clients? Need sharp corners? Hmm.

Jared, I shoot a lot of real estate and need to upgrade from 18mm. I was planning on getting the 12-24 f4. Is the Sony less distorted at 14mm than the sigma?

I often set my focus point on the edge because 1) I seldom have to worry about the center, and 2) edge blur can diminish the overall image perception of quality. The stretching at those images can get crazy. I use it exclusively for real estate. Imaging shooting the typical 5x7 bathroom in one frame: the faucet is often at frame's edge. It's shiny, and looks really bad if blurred.

Going to visit the city this christmas and I really want a nice WA zoom lens. I have a 25mm prime I enjoy the length of so this range is really perfect. It came down to the Sigma Vs the Sony 16-35. When I realized I can get the sigma new for the price of a used Sony well that kind of settled that. This lens looks to have great reviews and I know from watching your videos you seemed really fond of it so I think this Sigma is the winner for me!

Don't shoot astro or wide angle for journalism so I'm really happy with the Sony 12-24 f4 for real estate and landscapes. Never ever want to use 12mm, but in some houses I've been forced too and I love having that option. Feel it *could* be sharper, but maybe that's me.

I have the EF version of this lens and use it on my EOS R... frankly it’s a little too big and unwieldy on the R-wish this smaller mirrorless version was available. Do you feel like the IQ is better on these 14-24’s than a typical 16-35? I’m always wishing I had a bit more reach... honestly looking to replace mine with the canon 15-35 f/2.8. I’ll be curious to see what you say about that lens compared to this.

It is pretty darn sharp. You suggest selling the 12-24 for this? I do shoot home interiors. But, don't need 12mm that often. I wish it zoomed a little farther to offer more incentive to switch. I like the 2.8 though.

Did you do any video? I just returned mine after a week. It has a flicker in what appears to be high contract conditions when doing video. I hope it was a one off lens issue.

Great review.......noticed a lot of noise in the photos and made me think of this video I saw using Topez Denoise AI which completely elimiated noise in like 2 or 3 steps i about 15 to 30 seconds. The program cost like $70 or $80 USD and am considering getting but would love to see a review of the program by you. I feel you are very honest when it comes to reviews and wont hold any defaults back if you find any.

Sigmas are always sharp, but what about video? The Sony 12-24 is awesome for video, the AF is super fast and precise. Can that be said about the 14-24 from Sigma?
