Just bought this after watching your video. It's currently on your Amazon link for £980. I asked WEX if they could match the price as I like to buy from a human but they said they couldn't get anywhere near that price. This is the 2nd lens I've bought from your recommendation. Thanks again.
I have a 20mm lens which is wide enough for most of what I do. However, the Sigma looks brilliant. Strange term for me to use since I live in California, but I've been watching a lot of British flicks lately. If I had the money it would be a cool lens to have, but I might be one of those you're talking about that uses it once or twice a year and then sits it on the shelf. Thanks for another great review!
Starting my photo/video journey on Canon lenses and transitioning to sigma lenses has led me to turning the zoom ring the wrong about 50% of the time the last 4 years... I'll probably keep doing it for the rest of my life 🙈
Primarily shooting concerts now and rented this lens out. It was a small venue with a stage and no barricade. I found the 14mm to be perfect for getting really cool close up perspectives of the performers and being able to fit the entire crowd in frame while taking a group photo on stage. I've tried the Tamron 17-28mm previously and it wasn't wide enough nor did it look as sharp at f2.8 for me. I think that its only real downside is the weight and not being able to take front filters that would make me consider their 16-28mm instead.
I love this lens and is one of my go to's. Also, great review, but let's be honest, you can't say that you're not paid when they send you the gear to review. We all know that if you down talked it or were overly critical about it, they wouldn't send you anymore gear to review, therefore taking away content to create. A lot of reviewers do this and it's cringe. You are better off just not mentioning it at all.
it's not true. I don't get to keep it and I am free to say whatever I want. I have criticised lenses when there was need for that but in all honesty I have managed to be a professional photographer for 10 years with just two cheapest lenses I could afford at the time. I don't believe that there are bad lenses these days (not in this class anyway), whatever you think there is wrong with it, you can work around it and make the lens work. There is too many people these days saying that the lens is garbage when it really isn't, just too high and unrealistic expectations and lack of experience to achieve desired results. This lens is above average for sure
Thank you!! That's the idea, if I was buying a lens, I'd like to see as many photos shot with it as possible to show me how it works. It takes me much longer to make a review but it is all worth it when I see a comment like yours. Thank you for watching!
@@PavSZ actually im going to start making videos with full review lensen in many diciplines, i do potrait, food, social events, nightlife. but in spanish soy de México, meanwhile i was looking i was thinking "nobody does it like that or what" until i found this channel , and turns in a neccesity for me to crate content in my language, again Thank you.
I'm sure you've been told this already but zooming IN clockwise is actually the NORMAL one... As far as I know it's only Canon which consistently goes the other way. And no, Sigma do not always go the same way. Sometimes, at least in the older days, they would make them to match Canon lenses but mostly they go the correct way (clockwise to zoom in). Clockwise to zoom in is demonstrably correct. Clockwise to zoom IN matches the intuition of anyone who has ever used a screwdriver or fastened a bolt. The Canon way is unpopular for a reason: it's wrong.
I totally agree but literally every other brand that I use (Sony, Nikon, Om-System and Fuji) turn the other way. It's irrelevant what is the 'correct' way. You get used to something and then one brand does the opposite. That's all
Very nice review and photography samples. It is a very amazing lens especially on A7RIV. They provide a small stencil which can be used to cut filters out of various sheets.
Hey !! I’m excited to lock this into my SL2S, actually I will have it this sat and just hit the button and you video comes out ! Really enjoy your video and sharing ( sponsor or not is not an issue 😅 LOL ) as long as they are good ! Thanks man ! Already subscribed your channel and hope can learn lot more from you ! I’m totally new to FOTO , just since 2022 😂😂
I have used this lens both with Nikon F and Sony FE mount. The Nikon version seems to not be focus-by-wire, perhaps this is typical for Nikon. However I usually am on Sony and for that mount it is focus by wire. Either way great lens. If you like the focal lengths, get it. Putting this onto a full frame camera and looking into it, I began to see the world in new ways. It was like seeing more than you're normally allowed to see by the naked eye, and felt like being a small child or something again because of the interesting perspective. Recommend if you want to try wide angle - also works fantastic for real estate, which is why I got it. Everything said in the video is true - it's one of the great ones and I strongly suggest giving it a try if you can.
They are two different versions of this lens. Nikon is older DG HSM version with linear focus and a little focus distance display. This one is DG DN and it is only available in Sony-E and L-mount versions. Focus by wire only (standard). Great lens
You've done it again! My wallet is a lot thinner having just purchased this lens after your review! Awesome...and now I just have to figure out how to create ND filters with the included guide. Cheers...and STOP making me buy more lenses...I"m going broke!!🤣
@@PavSZ LOL! I DO enjoy them. I am also going to pull the trigger on the Sigma 105mm f/2.8 Macro after debating between the Sony 90mm and the SIgma thanks to both of your reviews that greatly helped my decision. I'm also probably going to dump $$ on the Sigma 24mm f/1.4 Art and the new Tamron 35-150 f/2-2.8 when it gets in stock...and that looks like it may still be a while. Those, and the others I have recently purchased will complete my transition from years of Canons to Sony, with two ZV-E10's for live streaming and a new a7 IV. Twoje zdrowie!
I can’t decide between this lens and the Sigma 24-70mm. While 2 very different lenses I really just need something wider as I already have a 35mm 1.4 and 85mm 1.8.
@@PavSZ can’t tell the difference at all. Maybe because they’re not side by side. That would be a great comparison, I’m trying to decide between the two right now for my S5iix. I want a lens for real estate content; virtual tours, and stills. I also need the lens to be able to shoot video at night. Which would you recommend? I like the versatility of the Sigma but I’m sure the prime would perform much better.
Thank you for this review. I bought mine today. 💯🤝 I liked and subbed. By the way, what is the name of the song that you are playing on your outro and who is the artist as well please?
Hello sir, I have a question for cat indoor photography what's the worth Lens? Samyang 45 1.8/ Sony 50 1.8/ Sony 50 2.5/ Sony 24-105 G? Im new in this world
Very nice....as always straight to point not going arround... Thanks....great review... And great video+photo material captured... Cheers till next time
I'm still torn on this one. I'm still unsure about whether I would really need a polarizer (If I don't do enough landscape). But in addition to the lens costing more, it would also cost way more to get a filter system just for this lens since it does not have filter threads. Sony 20mm would be lighter, sharper, use 67mm filters and way more portable when it comes to hiking. But of course it is not as wide. Really would prefer to not have to buy two lenses. D: RIP Bank account
I don't think that the filters are really needed when shooting photography with this lens unless you want the slow shutter speeds when shooting waterfalls or moving water. Cheaper to buy the dedicated filters for it than another lens to use with the filters that you already have
@@PavSZ found a used 20mm and went for it. I will see how I find this focal length. If I find myself wanting to go wider and not really doing longer hikes then I will get a used sigma if one ever pops up. The sigma will be the obvious better all-rounder but it's much heavier and costs almost twice as much as the 20mm
maybe. Samyang is a prime and this is a zoom. You get more versatility from Sigma. Samyangs are good but they are not top shelf premiums that Sigmas, like this one, are

Very nice review, thanks a lot. Can you compare it to the Lumix 4.0/16-35? Both Lens seems to be very good. Looking forward to your next Video!
@@PavSZ It's difficult to chose this or Sigma 14mm, 1.8, but I mean there are plenty of options. I have my 18-35, 1.8, and would love to pair it with Other Sigma😁✌️
Hi ! Great video, for sure I am will go for this lens for complete my gear. Do you recommend a Sony A7iv over a A7Riv for a non profesional, travel and street photographer, considering performance and budget? not much video in my case. Thanks for your feedback
Thanks! I personally went for a7IV - it gives me everything what Sony has on offer right now and a very decent resolution and file sizes. Also better ISO performance than a7RIV
Clockwise to zoom has always felt 'correct' and intuitive for me. Lumix and Nikon zoom this way. My lenses that are the other way around feel very awkward. It's just what you're used to though really.
I think it is a better lens overall. Quality wise, no doubt but it is also smaller and lighter but obviously you can't use this version on Nikon cameras
Excellent review with lots of photo and video examples 👍🏼 I enjoy the weight of my Tamron 17-28mm especially when on long hikes but I do wish I had wider.
I agree. I'm new in the past year to Nature and Landscape, and it's videos like yours that got me to invest in it, and I love it. On hikes, it gets a nice angle of fallen trees, or upward angle shots. It is a bit cumbersome, but I also carry the sigma 60-600 with me and that's a beast. So this is a small price to pay when I throw it in my waist saddle bag.
@@PavSZ I got both atm , bought them for good prices so I’m trying to keep one and sell the other one. Btw I think that sigma is heavier than Sony for 100-200g. It’s hard choice. I like sigma because of that 14mm and price but don’t like because of weight, no front filters.
7:45 - What a gorgeous picture! The green colors are so vibrant, and the razor-sharp focus on the rock wall with the softer background is really pleasing. I wish I knew which camera you used. I'm considering buying a Panasonic S5 with this lens for my real estate photography business. I currently have an Olympus 7-14mm f2.8 on my Panasonic G9, and the bulbous front lens often picks up flares from the sun or even from inside lights. I just have to watch out for that and shield the lens with my hand when I see it. I suspect it is the same with this lens.
Thanks! I have tested this lens on Sony a7III but Lumix S5 is an awesome camera. I have made (another) video about it this week (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-eLTToVuutZI.html) This lens has also got bulbous curved front element - it would be the same with it
Where were the autofocus tests 😊 Your perfectly structured videos got me scrolling twice to be sure there isn't. I love mine, and use the manual focus to decide if the subject is near or far, but I was wondering if you found some sweet spot settings for the pulsing issues 🙏
Thank you for watching!!! I didn't experience any pulsing issues with it on a7III - I did no AF tests as i could not find anything wrong with it and every other review did the tests already
24-70 would be better for exterior cars in my opinion. Ultra wide lens like this would distort the car shape too much. However, it would be perfect for shooting interiors with
@@PavSZ thanks Pav… you’re the only youtuber that responded that I wrote to in regard to this lens and my concerns about it using for car videos etc… so thank you, appreciate you taking the time. 👌🏼
Thank you so much! I always try to shoot 300-400 photos with every lens and include 80-100 in every review. It makes sense to see what lens can do instead of listening to someone's opinion about it
Wouldn't hesitate to get this lens if it weren't for the lack of good filter solutions. Rear filters are not an option to me, and front filters on this type of lenses are a pain 😭
Have a look at Haida rear filter len which are quality glasses and not gel filter, they are actually doing a kit especially for this lens and it is amazing!
@@jonnyelpoiss7 Thanks, I've seen reviews on that kit, but the filter I use the most is a circular polarizer. I'm leaning towards getting the Tamron 17-28. 14mm vs 17mm is a significant difference, but I think 17mm will be wide enough for most situations.
