Thanks for the quick and good review! I look forward to the upcoming comparison : ) The FE 200-600 has that short and fast zoom throw..yes small birds are often (always) at 600mm but locating them is easier if you can quickly zoom in.
@@TomCalton But wouldn't be it hard to shoot with such a small body and a big lens? I mean, taking a position and waiting would be great, but walking with it... and I like to walk when taking photos :)
To be honest, the lens is front heavy even on my A7III, so I mainly used it with a monopod attached. And if you're going to do that then it doesn't really matter how big or small your camera is as the centre of balance is shifted to the lens collar.
@@TomCalton Monopod is a great tip, thanks :) I've tried the lens on my body and it's really well balanced, even holding. But the weight is a killer one, especially considering the 70-350. Got a lot to consider now, thank You for the help Tom
Thanks bud 👍 I probably won't include the old Sigma in the next test, purely because it's not a native Sony E-Mount lens. It was relevant in this video because it's what the new lens is replacing, so it's interesting to see whether it's truly an upgrade or not. I hope that makes sense!
I waited with the purchase of the 100-400 because of the rumors about the 150-600..... but now i'll probably have to spend 400€ more than i wanted to spend🙃🤐
Before you go selling the 100-400mm, it might be worth waiting for my next video as I'll be testing it against this new sigma. Might give you a better idea of which is the better of the two?
I think you're my new favorite camera review channel. I think you're even funnier Jared Polin 😂 Although I gotta say that nun country side comment might have gotten you some negative points in heaven hahaha
Informative and great review. Appreciate the effort you have put in to make this!!. One suggestion though. The title of the video is misleading. for me, this is not a review of the lens. in fact, it's a comparison between old and new lenses. So changing the title would be great 🤩. Enjoyed the video!! cheers!
Excellent video Tom . I have the the old canon version adapted to my Sony A7RIII using the mc11 adapter which I use for aviation and wildlife . I am toying with trading this in for the new version or the Sony 200-600. I will wait anxiously for your next comparison video .
Excellent review. Now expecting the upcoming comparison w/200-600. While having already looked at someone else’s, I think two major points for the Sigma - at least for me - would be the increased portability (5-6cm are a good bonus) and the lower price (appx 400-500 euros less in Italy), while enjoying some added features like the included arca swiss mount, “pump zoom” and accessories. Using it even for astro (moon and would try DSO), it would be interesting to know if the lack (?) of teleconverter compatibility (1.4-2x) would affect a lot the result - or any trick would exist to use the L-mount tc’s (or Sigma will find an agreement with Sony). I’m currently using an A7r3 (with potential future upgrade to the r5 as a second camera… for my wife, as I’m not a pro).
Great video as always, nice info and amusing! Be nice if you did a handheld video test for lenses as well because some of us tight arses don’t want to buy a tripod! Could get decent footage with sigma 100-400 handheld, be ace if it was remotely possible with a longer lens.
Not yet, but I do have it in for review and will be making my next video very soon in which I'll be comparing this new Sigma against the Tamron and the other two Sony options as well 👍
@@TomCalton Expecting a Sigma 150-600 DG DN vs MC-11 adapted Sigma 150-600 DG OS HSM Contemporary comparison video... 😂 No pressure DG OS HSM C at $900 new and used almost half the price of the new DG DN... It will make for an interesting comparison.
I'm seeing some conflicting report online about this lens. Some say it's sharper than the Tamron, some says the Tamron is sharper. Some say it's not that sharp on the long end, some say the autofocuse isn't that consistant when tracking high speed activity, I really hope it's just some early sample issue, not the sample variation that Sigma is known for.
I guess we'll find out in the next video whether it's better or worse than the Tamron. Sometimes it's really hard to call an overall winner if the image quality results are super close!
Thank you for the side by side comparison between the new DG DN lens and the older DG HSM lens. Since there are multiple advantages to the new lens, will Sigma be offering it with the Canon and Nikon mounts to replace the HSM version?
Not that I'm aware. At the moment the DG DN line is just for mirrorless cameras and they only offer them in Sony E-Mount and Leica L Mount. They may branch out to Canon and Nikon mirrorless cameras in the future, but who knows if/when that will happen.
when you review a len put the len melemeter how far or distance you take the photo and video of the len so that the viewer know how far and distance it is and the of the video stabilization thanks
@@alexverbeke2228 Same in this Nordic country, the FE 200-600 is ~2200e, this Sigma intros at 1500e, that's quite a difference. The Sigma is also around 100e less expensive than the Tamron 150-500 which seems to have been a bit funkily priced in parts of Europe
Why you don't review APSC Lenses? Sony e35mm f1.8 OSS vs e50mm f1.8 OSS will be a very interesting comparison😎 Start reviewing Smartphone cameras too, and you'll get a lot of views😎
@@TomCalton that’s great! in that case, please compare this one with the Sony 70-350! I’ve always been curious about how that one compares to these 3 times heavier lenses!

Hello Tom, thanks it is a superB conclusion. I would like to film motocross, and i am searching for the most suitable lens for my a7s3 body. My question would be, mostly which range did you use? 70-200not enough? What do you think? Based on your experiences with 150-600. Thanks. Peter
Hey Peter. It's true, I did find myself using the shorter end of the zoom range on this shoot, however, I was lucky enough to be able to get close to the track, so a superzoom wasn't strictly needed. If you're not able to get this close then having the reach of 600mm would be a God send. I shot a football match the week after and I was pretty much glued to the 600mm end because I couldn't get close to the action. I hope this helps!
