@@Jamesmatthews I think if Sigma even mentioned the intent on releasing the Mark II, us creatives would go nuts. They couldn’t keep them on the shelves.
I don't know how Sigma haven't made one for Sony E-mount yet. I have no doubts it would be the best selling lens in the market especially how much the mirrorless world is changing the game.
@@DavidMota because it's a DSLR design. They remake lenses specifically for mirrorless, not just swap mounts. At this point, I'm not even sure they can outdo themselves. Then there are all the supply issues and they are committed to L mount. It doesn't look promising
It flies off the shelf as is since people are adapting it. It's my favorite lens for the canon r5! Also used to use it like crazy on my a7r4 and it worked like a charm with the mc-11.
Honestly best lens decision ever! Been rocking it on the bmpcc6kPro and its just been fire. I recently picked up a Pro Mist 1/8 filter for it and its just gotten better. The image is beautiful, definitely recommend this combo!
Picked this lens up during the summer to shoot on my GH5 with metabones speed booster, and it's fantastic. Just got the 50-100 yesterday, so I'm looking forward to testing that big thick boy out during 2022. Amazing how relevant the GH5 still is when combined with Sigma glass.
Heckuva video man. Dropped my first 18-35 off a 40ft tower the other day. Still technically works but the focus was bad stuff. Got my replacement in yesterday and I saw this video and had to drop in. The banding trick with the grain was the fact of the video tho! No more banding on my backgrounds in '22! 🤙
Just getting into cinematography and film school I had to pick an ultra budget rig and setup that has taken me almost two years to put together. I decided on going with a BMPCC4k to help teach me to work a camera as manually as possible and my first lens was a Meike 35mm prime which I absolutely love and with the crop factor makes it amazing for close ups but not limited to just that, then picked up a Moza Air 2 with follow focus, and then added the Metbones Cine .71 and Sigma 18-35 with some Tiffen filters and variable ND. Like mentioned the Sigma gives an extremely clean image which is not necessarily a bad thing as you can manipulate the lens with filters and post production etc. Of course I would like more lenses in my bag but I am starting production on a full length film in April with this setup and a DJI Air 2s drone and really don't feel too limited on what I can achieve with this setup.
I figured the can was rolled in the moment I saw the shot. 😊 Question. Can the f stop of the Sigma 18-35 be adjusted from f1.8 to lower stops? or is it just a constant f1.8?
Own one of these myself and actually like the fact, that it's a bit more clinical. Just need to know when it works with the story and when best go for another one that might fit the look better
I love this lens shame I could not use it with a gimbal cuz I don't carry those types of gimbals it's an outstanding lens I'm waiting eagerly for sigma to release an RF version of this lens I hope you'll be slightly shorter I don't care if it's going to be heavier just make it shorter so I can fit it on my gimbal but I love this lens it's amazing it pretty much set my career as a videographer photographer for everything between
I want an L mount full frame version of this lens so bad. Have it for my BMPCC4k and adapt it to my S5 but would love to use the full width of the sensor. Absolute beast of a lens. Typically when I am looking at other lenses I often find myself going, "well its sharp. it looks good. I just wish it had the same vibes as the 18-35"
Such lenses already exist. Consider that at f1.8 on a aps-c sensor, the full frame equivalent is around f2.7. And 18-35 on aps-c equates to 27-52.5mm. The new Sigma 28-70mm f2.8 is the closest you'll get in full frame equivalent, but the 24-70 gives you an even better lens.
I have the lens and it’s excellent, that said if you are a Sony shooter the Sigma 24-70 is insane! Light years better than the 18-35. I do all my RU-vid videos with it, if you want to see the results.
Good review.....I recently bought canon 77d(apsc).. Im a hobbyist...Which is better sigma 18-35, sigma 17-50 or canon 17-55 or any other ..my purpose is events and weddings(mostly indoor), travel, and portraits. Image quality is key.....I have 50 mil 1.8
I picked one up in a package deal but have been sitting on it for a while just sitting in a box. None of my current bodies support S35 mode in 4K (FX6 and A7SIII). Looking forward though to adapting on A7IV
I upgraded from the EOS M50 to the EOS R around a year ago now, I could only afford to buy one lens to go with it and I did a TON of research before hand before finally deciding to pull the trigger on this lens. It's a solid lens, very sturdy and produces quality image.
I use it underwater :) Have it paired up with the GH5 & Metabones speed booster Ultra. It's insanely versatile! Shot this little video with it : ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-KGOyoFOp57U.html
Dear lord, what an incredible video!! I thought I was watching the most beautiful CGI at first glance and no....just pure natural beauty....amazing work
So good. Nice to watch a practical presentation on this lens rather than technical. Had this lens about the same time as you and use it paired with a Canon 90D for landscape still. One of the things I like about it aside from its wide aperture, is the f stop carries across the whole range of the zoom
Great video love the productivity. I'm not professional from u but I just have to say have dark gray or black table it would look much better with your video them
I recently picked up a used 18-35. Whoa what a noisy lens. I’ve seen many videos about the autofocusing noise however my lens even makes loud noise while changing aperture. You hear an feel the iris blades snap from 1 position to another. Haven’t seen anything on this and I’m just wondering if normal?
Hey dude. Recently found you and subbed obviously lol. What's the name of the song you used in the Xperia Pro i video? I know there's a link in the description to the website but I just want to listen to it. Also I just bought the Pro i, hopefully it improves my off motorcycle videos 👍
I just got a mint second hand one for less than 300€. It was a hell of a luck for me when nobody bid in the auction for it. So I got a new Sigma for a fraction of its price and I know I will never sell this lens for another one, because this is one of those with legendary status. If you have one, NEVER SELL IT!!! Also @James Matthews, did you froze the film grain to make it "unique"? It looks funny to have a frozen picture of a film grain in a video, but that made it "unique" and creative. So I wanna think you made because of that.
It's a hell of a lens mate! I do own it for 6 years now, literally it's glued on one of my pocket's! A rain, snow, fire, dust, sea sand, ocean, you name it, it just do the job no matter what the weather conditions are, It's build like a tank!
I like the new Tamrom 35-150 f2-2.8. I would love to see Canon or somebody make a 28-150 f2-4 (or f2.8-4; just fast on wide end) for a one and done lens. The RF 28-70 just doesn’t have enough range for me for the size.
James get the DZO Catta full frame zooms or Vespid primes (the new 16mm looks awesome) * now in years to come you can just say "here's some incredible footage"
I feel like there must be a reason sigma can’t reproduce this lens. Otherwise I can’t understand why they haven’t updated it. Would be a major seller if they did for mirrorless
Yes it will but you need the EF -> Sony E Mount adapters. to make it fit onto the camera. The best one (IMO) for it is Sigma's own MC-11 adapter. Keep in mind that though that since it's not a full frame lens & the A7III is a full frame camera that you will need to zoom in from 18 to about 24mm to get rid of vignetting which means you wont be able to use it at its widest. You could get one of the other brands ( like Metabones) speedbooster adapters for EF -> Sony Mount but I'm not sure how if you retain all the functions most notably autofocus when using the camera.
Nice review. I was thinking about getting one for my Z Cam E2, but ended up getting a Canon 24-105mm F4 II. Which with a Metabones XL gives me a range of 31-135mm at f2.5 with 4 stops of IS. Not 6k like your Blackmagic, but I love shooting 150fps in 4k.
