And there’s Wilson the maintenance guy sitting and enjoying the mold. Very nice man, he was always friendly when we would stop by and ask how things are going. I seriously think the guy unfortunately did not smell the mold in the place after breathing that air in for so long. There’s no way he hasn’t gotten sick from being inside for hours a day.
Anyone in the comments know what the plans are for the structure now that it’s closed? I know Belk is still open, but are they part of redevelopment plans or leaving the site?
Belk is still opened as they independently own that building. The rest of the mall i can only assume will be taken down as it's now unsafe to have anyone in there. My best guess is it will probably sit a while longer but it being in such a prime location it would be used for non retail things. The interior where I was walking closed in January 2024
That sucks. I was never a huge into malls. However ones like this one suck to see go. It still has some character and charm that malls from the 70's, 80's and 90's had, (fountains, trees, a little interesting architecture. Now most malls look stale and soulless, hey here is another westfield mall, blah.
