Signal Peak 4x4 Trail is the perfect beginner trail. It's one of those trails that keeps bringing me back to it. It's not because its is overly difficult, but because it offers a few fun obstacles and is perfect for the beginner to learn on. This trail will challenge a novice wheeler, but it will build their confidence in themselves and their rig.
Signal Peak 4x4 Trail is a 11.1 mile point-to-point trail located near Soda Springs, California that features a great forest setting. The trail is rated as difficult and primarily used for off road driving.
Short, difficult trip to 7,841-ft. mountain peak. This short trip sees minimal traffic. Great views once you get above the trees. Short walk to abandoned, historic lookout station once used to spot fires along railroad that can be seen below. Difficult. Narrow, steep road with tight brush and a very tippy rock challenge.

What trail do you take people too when they want to learn how to wheel?

I know this was a year ago but an offroad park. There will be every level of trail. Usually at least a couple tow companies that will go into the park and get you if needed but likely other people will help you.

It's cute how a Wrangler guy would think 33s are small tires. LOL Just teasing. Thanks for the video.
@NotICON

Well stock tires are 31-32 inches depending on the trim level. 33s on a 2 door are great though.

@NotICON Is there a spot where I can actually park a trailer.. My jeep has 4.88 gears so it's definitely not moving to quick. So I have a 16ft car hauler to tow it to places for offraoding.. Or is there a Home Depot or a other store parking lot relatively close so I can just unload there and rive the other 20 miles or so to location..
@NotICON
@NotICON Год назад
@@p.m4874 the trail head has some decent parking. If you get there early you shouldn’t have an issue parking the trailer. The trail comes out 1 exit down at Cisco Grove, so you can easily drive back to the trail head. The trail is probably covered in snow right now though, and probably won’t be accessible till late spring.

any type of recovery gear you would recommend for a first timer up here? I know it’s a beginners trail but I don’t want to test my luck lol. I have an 08 jk 2 door sport w a 3” lift on 33s but haven’t gotten around to a winch or traction boards yet
@NotICON
@NotICON Год назад
Don’t go alone is the biggest but of advice I can give. Tow straps and a winch are going to be you most used recover items if needed, and make sure to use a tree saver strap if you need to winch to a tree.

An accurate tire guage for airing down. An air compressor to air back up( Smitty built has a portable for around 90 dollars that will air up 33s) a shovel, a pair of heavy leather work gloves. Even a hand held 40 channel CB. Some cell phones don't work well in the hills. Spare gas can carrier mounted outside, so you don't breathe gas fumes. And a friend to go with, don't go alone. 2 jeeps are better than one . Have fun and be safe.

would this be an okay trail to run for the first time in a jk sport with sliders and 33s no lift?
@NotICON
@NotICON 3 года назад
A 2 door on 33s shouldn’t have any issue. Depending on your experience level I would suggest going with somebody that’s familiar with the trail, and has some experience off road.

NotICON thank you for the response! Unfortunately it’ll just be the girlfriend and I but I’ll take the most conservative lines. Walking up and checking things out does the job most of the time.

Ive walked many obstacles to check out the lines before hand. Nothing wrong with walking things before you do them.

@@NotICON round trip or 1 way? I saw fordyce trail is nearby...prob a bit too extreme for me. any other trails nearby worth hitting in a day trip to the area? thanks for the reply!

@NotICON 2 года назад
So I think the back side of Signal Peak is closed down right now, so it’s an out and back the same way. Eagle Lake and Pierce OHV loop all starts from the same staging area. Eagle Lake shares the same trail head as Fordyce, but it doesn’t have the extreme rock crawling.

I've heard there's an 'easy' path up there and a 'challenging' path... it looks like this is the challenging path?
@NotICON
@NotICON 2 года назад
This is what would be considered the “challenging” path up the trail. Once you make it to the top you can go down the back side of the mountain, and that’s the easy way down.

Right now there is snow on the trail so you can't make it all the way up the trail. I had a buddy that went up there on Friday to check it out. I think mid to late June and the trail will be clear and good to go. I will probably lead a group up that way around that time.
