What got me most was that replika couple in the mines. One is dying and the other is sobbing. The dying one keeps comforting the sobbing one by talking about memories they inherited from their gestalt and how funny it is that they retain them. The other keeps sobbing the whole time. Final moments of two people that love each other. They both know its over. One comforts and one can't do anything but cry.
Oh, yes, it was the first thing that I thought of after the ending. Honestly, that couple's situation is really similar to Ariane's and Elster's. There's only one way out left for them and both of them wish it didn't have to be this way
This song is like a kick in the gut, getting your shirt pulled over your face, getting shoved into ice water, then pushed off a bridge. I love this game so much.
This song is like 90% the reason why the fake ending stuck with me. The quiet ambient synth(?) in the background drowns the atmosphere in melancholy. Then, the piano comes in, but it's devoid of any sense of drama or grand emotion: instead, it feels tired, and spent. Watching LSTR wander in the red with this in the background captured the feeling of giving up and powerlessness perfectly. The song feels like it's spectating LSTR, watching her end as if it already knew it was coming, and resigning itself to the fact that nothing can be done. As the song fades out, the player watches the life fade from her eyes, unable to change the outcome. Perfect song for a perfect scene, absolutely adore it. Great song/10
Didn't feel like crying before, when hearing this song, before your comment. NOW I DO, thanks a lot!! Beautifully said on how this song feels, it feels tired, like you said. Now I understand why this song in particular is the one that I like the most. Thank you, chodohead.
My 35 year old self hasn’t experienced this kind of raw emotion in gaming since I was a teen. Being this heartbroken, feeling so sadden, it doesn’t come often anymore, and I’m so thankful I got to experience this great loss. The red eye sees all.
@@nikitakhmelevskyi6257 well I’d say Xenogears/Xenosaga 1-3/Xenoblade Chronicles 1-3(with the dlc stories for 2&3), Silent Hill 1-4, Wild Arms 1-3, Final Fantasy 8, Tales of Abyss, Drakengard 1&3, Nier Replicant and Automata, I’m sure there is more, but I’m not in front of my collection. I’ll update this for you if you want?
I imagine this song is what Ariane must've felt like on that ship. When you're trapped in such a small space for so long, with nothing left to do that you find enjoyable nor enriching, the only thing left to feel is how you wither a little bit more each day. The cruel passage of time remains as constant as ever, but its perceived effect is amplified to the level of torture. This song is calming in a way because it shows acceptance of this truth - but it feels off at the same time. It's a "forced" acceptance - the passage of time is something we all experience, but their experience of it was far worse. They accept it because they have no other choice, but they are not entirely at peace with it because instead of enjoying many of the joys life has to offer, through no fault of their own they lived their lives waiting to die. But even in the end. they remain powerless against time; they can neither go back to recover the life they had lost, nor even to hurry up their decay so they may be put out of their misery. What makes it so horrifying is that it's not torture in the true sense of the word - it does not involve pain. It's a maddening numbness that makes you beg for while simultaneously denying any kind of stimulus, even pain. This image too - on one hand I'm glad for them because they are together and the relationship they have is so beautiful; but on the other hand, that darkness they are about to walk into is where they will die a slow, agonizing-in-a-near-incomprehensible-sense death. It looks to me from the painting like they know it too. I was not fully aware of these themes as I played the game because I was not fully aware of Ariane and Elster's fate, but in retrospect... it gives me chills. This is more terrifying to me than any possible depiction of a cosmic, malevolent being, which I was expecting ever since I saw the King in Yellow mentioned in a demo of the game about a year ago. This game - this work of art - has taken its place in my nightmares.
Im pretty sure Ariane was in a lot of pain, i remember notes near the end describing how it was painful, how everything hurt all the time begging for the pain to stop she was definitely not laying numb in the cryo pod
No Shame in that brother. I'm about as toxicically male as you can get an this game broke my heart and haunts my dreams. Only this an planescape torment ever effected me this much.
Being a grown man in his 30s, without much drama in his life, I haven't cried in a long time, but after having played and gotten the "promise" ending, this song just makes the tears flow endlessly 😭 Music really is magical.
"You have a promise to fulfill" I was told by the friend who recommended this game to me. I wish he hadn't. I am incapable of reading or hearing the word CYCLE in any of its synonyms anymore without this song resonating in my thoughts. Whenever I feel something is about to go wrong again, or that my endeavors are pointless, I hear this. It's such a beautiful take on melancholy and hopelessness. Always reminding me of everything I want to forget. 10/10 experience, will cry 2 hours straight... again...
Absolutely, this is in essence what both characters want, and is a kind of ultimate wish fulfillment, to finally escape the cycle and pass on together.
just completed the promise ending, i didn't think i'd be crying over the game all over again but those last moments just destroyed me. genuinely one of the best games i've played in years
This. This music during the fake ending cutscene was what confirmed my love for this game for good. I have no words to describe how it makes me feel exactly, but all I can say is that the devs are geniuses. This is art.
All two of them. And one of them wrote the story while the other was in charge of the art. All the more impressive in my opinion. If you expand to include the sound-design/music: then it's only another two people.
@@juggernut1418 it's been like 2 months, so you probably already know, but just in case I'll tell you about it: Besides this ending there are other 4 of them i think, one with Die Toteninsel playing on the background is fake because the game doesn't really end there. After the credits are over, when you are sent back to the main menu, Elster now looks dead and her eye looks like it lost its light. You have to press the continue option. At first it looks like you're starting the game all over again but if you keep going you'll quickly realize that a lot has changed. I haven't really finished the game myself but I'm loving it and i hope this helps you.
A song I could listen to while taking my last breath. Thank you! Edit: After finishing the game I feel empty inside it's like watching a good show come to an end. 10/10 Game
I feel the same. I feel like this is a ,,once in a lifetime" type of game. In my eyes, it will never get beaten by any other game. None other game sent me to some weird type of mental state. God bless SIGNALIS and Rose-Engine devs for this beautiful experience.
This game fucked me up so bad. I got the Leave ending first time through. I dunno if it was peak depression or what, but everytime i hear this piano, i can't help but feel a deep lonelyness and sadness. But at the same time, knowing the endings, im just glad they got to be togeather again in one form or another.
The music pairs so well with how the story unfolds. Every single time I hear the piano, its somber tune, I start to feel feelings I've never thought I was capable of feeling. Emptiness is truly a perfect descriptor of this song, as well as the game. Never before has a game instilled such feelings in me before. Mere pixels, sure, but what laid behind them was what stuck deeply with me. I came looking for tall android waifu, stayed for the master-craft story, and cried for what was never meant to be. 10/10 game, perhaps a game of similar caliber will never be created. Perhaps, this is truly hell.
This feels like it actually touched my soul, every time this song plays in my head I feel both sadness but joy at the same time knowing that Elstr and Ariane got to dance together one last time even if it was beyond space and time.
it's one in the morning, I have school in the morning, I'm ugly crying because this game is so god damn beautiful and more people need to experience it. 100/10
I get this is based on classical music, but it feels very... Yumi Nikki. The sadness of this game reminds me a lot of how devastated I was at the end of Matsuro Palette. I hope for a game set in the same universe. I really do. Signalis's universe is very interesting. I think the page on Elster and Ariane, alongside Leng's mine have closed though simply due to the nature of the game being based on mystery. Oddly nice when building shelves.
What i loved about Signalis wasn't only the horror aspect or the visuals, but the underlying tragedy between Elster and Arianne. SPOILERS BELOW: Arianne accepting the mission to go to a different, unknown planet, just to get away from the abuse due to being different in some minor things. And with Elster with her, for a moment it felt like a tiny escape between the two where they can be at peace. And then it all falls apart in a horrific way. The ship's radiation poisons her, and she's forced to stay bedridden. And what's worse, she can't seem to die and her drifting memories alter the rest of the crew. We, as Elster, can only put her out of her misery by killing her (the promise she made to Arianne). All while the strange planet itself also warps the station into a place similar to Silent Hill.
The fake ending sequence is straight up one of the best cutscenes I've ever seen. This soundtrack and the overall execution of the cutscene (which borrows prime Studio SHAFT's style) actually made me think the game ended right then and there, with me (the player) and Elster being unable to reach whatever we were trying to, and actually giving up. For once, I'm glad I got baited. This game is definitely something else. It can get restrictive at times and it may not be that innovative, but the ambience, the mystery and the game's aesthetic really make it worth it.
In another life, the Penrose mission was a success Elster and Ariane got to be free from everything in the past, Rotfront, Leng, Eusan, and every bad memories they had during that time Now its just the two of them in paradise.
After everything, they deserve a happy ending. All they wanted was to be free. Free of the society that saw them as commodities instead of people. To be in a space where they could be with people who could value them for who they are, and see the beauty in their love. The ending was so cruel, and heartbreaking, and yet, in some twisted way, strangely beautiful. Signalis is a friggin' masterpiece.
@@Scutage You gotta play it. Just do it. Depending on your situation it might be a bit expensive but it's worth more than all the games I've played in the last decade or two. I thought Soma was a masterpiece but that's just child play compared to this.
Haven’t played Signalis yet so I won’t spoiler myself anything but just wanna say that the atmosphere this game gives off with both its OST, Art-style & environments is REALLY fucking cool and I’m loving listening to the OST.
I still can’t, I’ll never forget…… This pain This sadness This comes once ever so many years in art. Be glad we have this. Let the pain wrap around you, feel it. And never forget the promise that was made. Never forget this beautiful OST.
Experiencing the tragic story and characters of SIGNALIS is probably something i will never forget, this is truly the pinnacle of what the gaming medium can provide, just pure emotions. This track has an ominous and sweet and sour feeling, i dont know how to describe it fits perfectly with the story ... anything for the promise.
I absolutely refuse to beleive there isnt a hidden, happy 6th ending. Why does everything in the game relate to 6 but there's only 5 endings? Its driving me mad
This is the most beautiful thing I've come across. I love the reworking of Rachmaninoff's work into this type of somber piano sound. The people who made this ost deserve an award
this song stuck in my head since the first time i heard it and whenever i think of signalis i start hearing these piano and low ambient sounds, this is perhaps my most favorite ost in the whole game and the one i have and will remember by heart forever ❤ thank you Yuri and Barbara, and everyone who was involved in production for this wonderful experience
I have a bit of a problem with my funeral song. This sounds really well and actually almost made me cry while it played in the cutscene, but I have a bit of a struggle with Trackmania Nations/United Forever menu theme, because I play that game since I can remember and I have many beautiful memories on that game. Sometimes when I hear that menu theme, I just get memories which are making me sad. This ending theme is also a beautiful I would call symphony. Reminds me of the fact that there will be the end one day. A day when you will lose everything and leave this place to some, if even any, different world.
How can a fictive promise hold so much weight to it? Why does this promise hurt me so much when I'm almost completely numbed to most suffering around me?
Why is this so good? Reminiscent and foreign at the same time, like I've been here before but I don't know where I am. Fits the game perfectly, kudos to the devs.
The original painting(s) are from *Arnold Böcklin.* He made five different versions of the painting. However - this particular iteration is not from him. But one can see, that it is clearly based upon his third version from 1883. I think, that should have been included in the video's description.
i beated Signalis on launch day and thought it was a fantastic game, but having replayed it some time later truly made me fell in love with the characters, the music, the art it takes inspiration and of course, the music The music in this game is such a great and incredible experience to listen even outside of the game and i firmly believe that this one is the music that have moved me after a long time i cant understate how great and fantastic this experience is, it refuses to leave my head any time of the day and even went beyond to surpass my favorite game of all time
Yes... Yes, it is. I'd say it's one of the best games to come out this year. It's a proper example of how games can be more than just a quick way to kill some time. A true work of art.
Definitely Worth it... This game Creates such an Ambiance with his colours and Sounds that get you directly into the game. All the GamePlay, the Graphics, the soundtrack and the Story are Mastepiece
YES, its like a mix between Silent hill and Resident evil but in a pixel style. Sooo fucking good, its free on xbox, probably free on playstation and its like £30 on nintendo switch.
Never played the game but I keep falling asleep to videos about this game and this song always wakes me up with a chick with missing arms or something like that. Might've been either Indeimaus or NitroRad. Probably both... I been humming this shit for a few days
... I was literally thinking, okay now the piano is about to come in... no wait, that's a Silent Hill 2 song... wait, there it is... this melody is from a Signalis song? Is my memory okay? How could I be wrong about Silent Hill 2? Me getting excited to admit that mistake is the best possible compliment I can pay this game's music. The sensation of feeling like this song is from the wrong game perfectly matches the feeling both games so beautifully capture in their own unique ways. ... Beautiful incoherence, sadness, and loneliness... the whole world is wrong and I'm the only one who notices. ... My friends aren't MY friends anymore, my friends are far away now. I'm not me anymore either... I'm just here... somewhere. But where? And why? The time has evaporated, the person I once was is now and forever a corrupted memory. All the people I ever knew are only a feeling that flickers in and out of the corner of my eye. My mind has betrayed me, I can't hold on to the illusion. Reality is washing away my perception with cold and cruel waves of indifference. The people who cared never existed, they were mere imitations who were presented an image and told by some chaotic calculation to imitate it, and so they did. Now the image is gone... and so are they. ... Taken by another force in the billowing cascades of time. Eternity renders me ellipse.
