Hi!
I'm back with a sit-down video again, this time talking about some early signs of me slipping into psychosis and how they present themselves. Living with schizophrenia means that you suffer from recurring psychosis, like having delusions, hallucinations and most often also have negative symtoms like fatigue, low motivation, cognitive issues and so on...
So I thought I could talk a little about what leading up to a psychotic break can look like, for me at least. This was heavily inspired by living well with schizophrenia's video!
Thank you for watching! 💚

I deal with all of this regularly and my strategy is two things: keep focused on one thing, and rational mindedness. As long as I have some rational idea of what I'm doing I can veer off into delusional thinking more often, and if I'm splitting my focus between a million different things my mind just starts drifting off into psychosis automatically. Whenever you post a video it always brightens my day. Stay well!

Thanks for this Kimberly... I almost always feel uncomfortable (scared) in the presence of other people which can be quite limiting. But hearing you speak about these things helps. Not feeling alone and also better understanding my symptoms. Thanks Kimberly I wish you all the best... Always... And an very grateful to have you in my life ❤️

Stereotypic behaviour makes me easily tell when I am in psychosis. I just lean into it, because I see psychosis as just the sanity and rationality systems of the brain 🧠 being depowered. So I see it as an opportunity for my mind to recharge ⚡, as it has to spend less of its power on maintaining itself. I see hallucinations as just caused by the brain dredging up long lost memories, including from dreams. Because it has little/no sanity, so chaotically remembers things for no rhyme or reason. Other giveaways are: • Making irrational decisions. • Being irritable. • Having really random, eccentric, weird desires. Especially compared to your usual self. • Being unable to concentrate on anything. • Having a much weakened shame instinct. • Trying to do things outside of your usual habits. • Avoiding doing mentally strenuous activities e.g. maths.

Luckily with my nighttime meds I'm generally knocked out at night. Not getting at least 8 hours of sleep a night is a factor that will lead me to psychosis, so sleep is very important for me. I usually am not awake by 11pm and if I am, it's bc I planned to be and I most likely brought my meds along to take later on in the night. Another big factor for me is NO ALCOHOL. I've been sober for 7 years since my diagnosis and I push everyone, mental health diagnosis or not, to consider putting the alcohol away too.
@KimberlyHallberg
@KimberlyHallberg Год назад
yes im the same! I need at least 8 hours of sleep to feel good and to keep the psychosis away. 😊 I have thought about skipping alcohol also, but I drink so rarely anyway so im almost already there 😂 thank you for your comment and for watching! 🥹❤

Hi Kimberly, I took antipsychotics and antidepressants for a period of two years and then my psychiatrist tapered me off them gradually over a period of say 6 moths. I stopped taking antipsychotics 2 months ago but I was recommended to take antidepressants for sometime before stopping it. Unfortunately, yesterday I slept into psychosis and it happened suddenly. I thought that my co-worker was syping on me and I exploded in rage at her. Then, I left work and called her on her phone and starting yelling at her and stuff... talking badly about her and the government and everything. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 But she considerately dealt with my anger and she made sure that I reached home safe because I was driving. I didn't tell her before that I was taking antipsychotics.

Hi Kimberly, another great video of yours. May I ask you if these symptoms you mentioned are present even when you are taking medication regularly? If so, how do they go away? Keep up the good work. 🤗
@KimberlyHallberg
@KimberlyHallberg Год назад
thank you! 💖 and yes I do have them but not as strong as when Im fully psychotic and not as often. Im still learning how to react or respond to it, but most of the time I can realize that "oh this is a symtom not reality" so Im kind of learning to ignore it and live with it 😊💖

I have had signs of relapse for a while. My sleeping patterns have been abnormal, and I have been feeling more anxious whenever I run errands in public. It's frustrating. And I am already on 30mg Olanzapine, which is 150% the maximum recommended dose. I have had highly prevalent delusions. I can relate to feeling like I am being spied on, or that my computer has been hacked and that people are spying on me. I can also relate to not knowing what's going to happen whenever I run public errands. I always get this feeling like I am "going to my doom". I really hate psychosis.

It's really weird, but one of the biggest signs that i'm slipping back into psychosis is, that i lose my empathy. I start doing really weird and reckless stuff, stop feeling empathetic for others and become real cold. I'm not sure why, especially cause i'm quite the kind and empathetic person when i'm healthy. Just strange really

@KimberlyHallberg
@KimberlyHallberg Год назад
i have learnt to see early signs that could be indications that i'm turning psychotic. my therapist have helped me write out a plan for me to follow where they have helped me figure out the early signs. but again I don't always recognize it before its to late.

To be honest a lot of your symptoms sound like mine but I just have agoraphobia
@KimberlyHallberg
@KimberlyHallberg 10 месяцев назад
These are the very first symtoms of an oncoming episode, it is not the symtoms of a full blown psychotic episode which have more typical symtoms like the paranoia or hallucinations. So the first symtoms are usually much more subtle. 😊

For me when I don’t sleep for a few days I start getting a lot of voices and songs or words being played in my head on a loop. It makes it very hard to concentrate and focus on things. I later start seeing things that aren’t there and lastly delusions which are the ones that have me end up in hospitals🌿🤎
