Listening to their music and watching their videos... gives me goosebumps all the time. It's amazing, no other artist can make me feel the way Sigur Rós do.
Um, no, it's not. It's Icelandic. I live in Iceland. I speak Icelandic. This is Icelandic. And it's pretty dark, too. The song ends with: Er orðinn ryðguð sál Rafmagnið búið Mig langar að skera Og rista sjálfan mig á hol En þori það ekki Frekar slekk ég á mér Aleinn á ný --- "My soul has rusted The power is out. I want to cut and slash myself to death But I don't have the courage Rather, I shut myself down. Alone again."
Amazing, hard to believe they keep getting better. Saw them in NY in '08 , best show i've ever seen , I've seen enough to blow your mind! Truly a band to go down in history as elite , greatest of this generation...
this is my favorite track in the album, too bad there's no video clip for it. the opening in this live version was grating at first, but then it dissolves nicely into the song. very good performance.
I heard this album for the first time when I was 16 years old. Such a great album.. this music is unique although I dont undertand a word of that they usually sing.
Overwhelming... Whithout having any idea what he was singing about i had a feeling... which was right. Of course this music is mainly influencing cause of the "How" not the "What"... all together : true art. Masterwork.
Sigur Rós is indescribably beautiful, uplifting, saddening, adventurous, real, lyrical, artistic, experimental and euphoric......I wish I could describe them to you.
@jswee217 thanks. i don't think i'd heard this before, not to mention, seen this incredible video from 'the fountain mix'. my mother actually saved me from drowning once, but i don't feel like crying right now....maybe later.......
@tSp289 i agree, its not depressing at all. If anything it gives me a feeling of calmness and a picture of Iceland or somewhere with lots of blue and ice. lol.
@maad131 Íslenska að visu! :) It's Icelandic. It's a fascinating language -- a living time capsule. In some ways, it's even more reminiscent of Old English than modern English is. And I agree, it has a really beautiful sound, between the trills, the unvoiced consonants, the greater variability in plosives and fricatives, etc. Give it a shot. :) Gangi þér vel!
Hey just in case anyone wanted to know thursday do a great heavy cover of this song. Love that bass!!! And so easy once you get the awkward timing down.
i'm a relatively old fart (almost 59) who just discovered this band a few years ago. i don't want to sound too depressed and suicidal, but i can only stand so much sad sounding music. i have only so many tears to shed(?), and i've shed quite a few million gallons. i would like to hear them to do something with a little more danceable beat.so, Dear SR, please get crazy and let's hear you do a cover of a Cure song New Order, Joy Division, ....something like that....for Jeepers Creepers Sake!!!!.
they are his lyrics to manupilate how he pleases why are you even bothering with the words stop thinking so much and feel the music and you will understand that sigur ros about feeling the vibe and the emotion attached to the music not strict regimented sets relax and just listen to the sounds.
@imaloserhavenolife i've read in a number of places that there are very few actual words in his lyrics, but it's what he calls "hopelandic", which is almost all an imaginary language with some derivatives of english and icelandic thrown in. i don't think they're real lyrics.........where did you hear these were the lyrics?
i dont understand how people can put down sigur ros the one guy who said "Is this supposed to be some kind of ironic post-rock statement that non-hipsters don't understand?" dude, do you think sigur ros is making music with that in mind, hell no, they love music and they're making music they love to preform, thats all your reading way to far into things
